    • I love these types of shopping and cooking videos! I noticed that a lot of what you bought was packaged small compared to the US- but as a single person I think I’d prefer it. Groceries are pretty expensive here too.

    • Agreed. Based on how expensive each and every ingredient is, it may seem more feasible to eat out instead

  • I love that you're making cooking vids! That's awesome, especially since everyone needs to start reducing eating out so much due to inflation. One suggestion: the reason you're finding it so difficult to perform knifework is that you're seated, and your targets are at chest-level, instead of hara-level. Maybe consider standing when using your knife, or get a cushion or sitting pad to elevate your arms when you're wielding your knife? Did you ever get any of the houchou from your trip to the factory?

    @KirkKiyosadaTome@KirkKiyosadaTome16 күн бұрын
    • I find cooking at home costs me more than eating out 😂 but I prefer home cooked meals, so it's worth it for me! I have noticed standing up is a lot easier! I sadly didn't get any knives from that factory, would love to get some new ones in the future though 😍

    • That's awesome! One final note: perhaps try Worcestershire sauce for a bit of umami in your misoshiru if you don't like dashi. Also, Worcestershire sauce + ketchup + honey = Tonkatsu/Okonomiyaki sauce (aka Bulldog sauce)! I hope to see tons of new cooking vides from you!

    @elynnelim@elynnelim15 күн бұрын
    • Man, that’s rough. I went to Seattle last year before an Alaska cruise and it was pricey. I live in the Northeast and those strawberries would cost around $2.50-$4 a lb, depending on the store. I found the Trader Joe’s in Queen Anne near our Airbnb to have reasonable prices for the area. I actually looked to see what strawberries cost at that location it says $3.50/lb for non organic.

  • That was a fun trip to the supermarket 🙂. I liked the prepared meals you could get at the ones in my old Japanese neighborhood. Saved a lot of time and money. These prices didn't feel too different from where I'm living now in the US. Some things are more, and some things are less expensive, so it kind of balances out. The dishes you made all looked great! I'll have to try making some of them. I think I can get most of the ingredients here, but not in such great variety. I think most stores here have one, two, or three max varieties of tofu, for example. Same deal with miso. The local Whole Foods actually carries daikon, which I was happy to find. I used to make Caspian Sea yogurt at home. I remember my local Japanese markets carried it and you can actually just add a little to milk to start a new batch. It's a type of yogurt that you can make at room temperature, so it does't require any special equipment and is easy to make. My favorite way to prepare natto is mixed with a little soy sauce, a quail egg, and chopped spring onions 👌. Thanks for another fun vlog!

  • Save yourself money on herbs. Just grow them. It's super, super easy. As for the daikon, turn it into do chua (Viet quick pickles, awesome for sandwiches and salads). Onions, I go through at least 4 per week, but it depends on what you cook. Yogurt is also easy to make. Buy Greek yogurt and some milk. Mix and let sit in your oven. You can repeat the process ad infinitum to make endless yogurt. Olive oil is expensive because of the olive shortages in Europe. Most producers are also hoarding their yield to keep the price high.

  • fruit and vegg were mad expensive, if i were you i'd be exclusively eating soffritto ''onion celery carrot'', also green onions potatoes and garlic. Soffritto is used in many dishes, why its such a popular combination its because its perfect with tomato sauce. A great cheat is to buy fish sauce and shrimp paste to easily add intensity to your dishes

  • Hi, seerasan. Bulgarian yogurt is popular because it has an authentic taste.

  • You might have better luck at costco (if you have one close) for Greek yogurt. That's where expats get it in Seoul. The membership for Costco is half the price in Korea than in the US.

  • It’s nice to see a grocery store shopping so if we need something ourselves we can kinda gauge the price

  • Try to use the „pinch grip“ while holding your knife. It will make life so much easier.
