What Comes in the Deep of the Night? | Horror Short Film
What comes
Logline
Nestled in the looming shadow of a mountain, a man and a woman are consumed by an overwhelming sense of dread.
Overview
“What comes” started as an adaptation to an Ingmar Bergman movie- “Hour of the Wolf”. A man and a woman move to a remote island. The man (an artist) seeks solace to focus on his creation while his past and inner turmoil insidiously sneaks up on him. This takes a toll on the woman, affecting her emotionally as the two begin to drift apart.
I moved into the mountains around three years ago. There was an ever growing fear with the setting sun. The nights are noticeably darker here, yet more lively with hidden cries and screams by unknown creatures under the moon. A dread. A definite dread.
I’ve been filmmaking for close to ten years. Actor, writer, filmmaker. With this new devilry shivering my spine, I took to writing. “What comes” is written in a poem. “What comes” from the darkest pits of the wilderness? “What comes” in the cries and screams? “What comes” when you neglect compassion, depression, anxiety?
The Man
Written from the perspective of myself along with understanding the original story. A man that is giving up. A man that doesn’t care. So consumed by his own thoughts.
The Woman
She has given up everything for love. Her life, her passions, her aspirations. She crumbles when she loses her everything. Her foundation falls apart causing her to collapse.
The Skull
The diary. The secret. A manifestation of what we dare not say out loud. A manifestation of what is to come to things alive if not cared for.
The Dog/ Coyote
The reminder. Living alone, separated from its pack. Wildness in its heart but yet still so lonely. One can adapt to being alone, one can survive but perhaps not thrive.

“I wish that I could save you, but I’m the one with the knife.” Such a beautiful line! The whole film is. I love this!!
Hey, thank you so much! I was on the fence about releasing on KZhead (didn’t know if we were going to continue the festival run) but comments like yours really reassure me! Thank you a ton for watching it through 🙏
Wow! Really captures that feeling of despair and dread that Bergman was so good at.
Thank you for the compliment 🙏 And I really appreciate you taking the time to view and read about the film! It’s a film I’ve been trying to make for years!
This is extremely well done, and the fact this video doesn’t have a million or so views is criminal. I loved the ambience and the acting a lot, as well as the crypticness. Not entirely sure what it all means but you nailed the vibe you were trying to convey. Keep up the good work!
I can’t tell you how much your comment means! I appreciate you taking the time and giving this a watch ❤️ More to come!

So what is this exactly then? A man and a woman going bat-shit crazy inside a dark house, deep within the lonely mountains? Great writing, but I don't quite understand the meaning of the plot as a whole...
On the surface, that’s exactly what it is. A lot is left unsaid due to how short it is. And now it’s just left for interpretation. I really appreciate you taking a watch! As well as commenting!

@@thereisawolf apparently u care enough to reply to random persons youtube comment
Commenting on this video--whether meaningful or not, whether constructive or kind or even from you-- DOES contribute to youtube's algorithm and therefore helps it to reach more people. In fact, your comment may have been the one that led this video to be suggested to me to watch. It may have been the one to get this channel a new subscriber--me! And because you are such a lazy crotch of a human, and because I may be considered a borderline chaotic good, I am going out of my way to send this to a few of my friends in different parts of the world. So cool, you made a difference in the world in some small way by choosing to go out of your way in attempt to hurt somebody else. Id say it was for no reason, but even a kid paying half attention and playing games on their stepdad's iPad somewhere can still plainly see that you are jealous of this artwork for whatever reason. Sort of lame of you but my adderall just kicked in and you gave me something else to do besides solely complimenting this video and the acting
