If she IS fixed just always make sure she doesn't start to get stinky breath, if that happens, get her kidneys checked immediately, otherwise she's probably ok. Poop's not supposed to be a bed of roses 🤪

He was a champion shedder…although now, finding the errant hair makes me smile, because it’s like a little “hello” from him up in cat heaven. Cat hair’s also kinda great, because you can always spot another cat owner out in public, especially if they’re wearing black😂 The lil orange heart on her right side also reminds me of my late kitty, he had a black heart on his right side, too. • Just wanted to say that not all cats do well with another feline around. My kitty is very much an "only child". There is a stray cat that my partner and I started befriending, who is very docile and sweet. Our kitty is fine with him, they even bump noses. But when he was coming inside the house, even in a very limited space by the front door, kitty developed a stress related infection. She just doesn't like other cats in her space . Kitty actually moved away from my MIL to come live with us when MIL added another cat to the house (we share one property). Each cat is different, and I think it greatly depends on their personality and their age too. So dont feel bad for not getting a friend for your current cat, and you also have to consider that your costs do go up.

  • Excellent review! For the stinky poops, if you have a vet that does allergy testing for cats, it might help. One of our cats had the stinkiest poops I ever had the displeasure of encountering. We found that she was allergic to beef and flax (a common food additive for the Omega fatty acids they need). After a LOT of ingredient reading, I found a couple foods that don't contain either and her poops no longer stink us out of the house. Pro tip: if animal products don't specify WHICH animal, (like "liver" instead of "chicken liver") treat it as the allergen and avoid it. I hope you can find a way to de-weaponize Junior's poo!

  • To help the poop smell: first is always ask your vet. They will want a fecal sample to check for parasites. Since she was gassy as a baby, it may be a congenital issue in her intestines or liver. Possibly adding a little fiber to her wet food will help. (Wet food is best!) Look for 10% protein or close to it, and maybe a novel protein (deer or duck?). Possibly prebiotics, but check with your vet - sometimes they add gas if you give too much, too quickly. Trying different food is good, but give each a few weeks to really test it out. Otherwise, cover it quick, scoop after a few minutes, and hope she grows out of it. 😊

    • Or ... to cover up food that hasn't been finished. One of my cats has a feral streak*, and constantly scrapes on the counter or floor where she eats to cover what's left in her bowl (and in her step-siblings' bowls, as well). She sometimes manages to pull a piece of paper, or a poorly placed (by me) kitchen towel over her bowl. *Solitary wild cats do this to cover whatever they haven't eaten of their prey, so it's hidden, and they can return later to dine more. (I live next to the mountains in Colorado, and have come across partially covered fairly fresh carcasses, and you know that mountain lion is planning to return, so you don't want to hang around....)

    • It is not respectful to make a cat get used to "poking and prodding". Making them deliberately uncomfortable or annoyed does not earn trust and respect from them either. We shouldn't be doing that to them anyway if they do not enjoy it. If we conditioned humans this way, it would be considered abuse of a baby.

      @kmokatz@kmokatz8 ай бұрын
    • @@melinoess I'm a lifelong cat owner and currently have a kitten, not that it's any of your business to know. But since you decided to make assumptions, I will correct you. You and I just have very different views of the world and life. I despise conventional medicine, including conventional veterinary medicine. I avoid the vet like a plague and focus instead on preventative measures and holistic practices. If my animals need to have something done, then fine, just do it. They will get over it. No need to torture them for a random moment they may or may not encounter in life. But to normalize the disgusting vet ritual, most of which is not only unnecessary, but actually harmful to the pet, is not okay and should not be advised to new cat owners. A cat raised and socialized properly with respect and trust is a cat that can deal with anything and have the confidence and resiliency to overcome any short lived inconveniences in their lives. I use desensitization for many types of training and aspects of a cat's life, but not when it comes to their physical body and space. They need to be respected.

  • I think the pawing action is because the soft squishy covers remind her of dirt, so it's instinctual for her to try and dig. Cats will often knead blankets too before they go to lay down, but that is a different motion. The only thing I'll say about her poo is that you might want a different litter? Unless our cats do not have enough litter in their box they always cover it up fully when they are done. We need the Arm&Hammer clumping litter so I can clean their box every day or two and just scoop it into a Litter Genie, so it's sealed up and ready to go in the trash. There was a point where they caught worms from the mice they were hunting in our old house, where they both had diarrhea, but some meds from the vet fixed that quickly.

We have a knit blanket that one of our cats argues and fights with and tries to pull off us, and if we bring a blanket they love from the couch, the other cat will literally pull it off the bed. You could try putting a cat bed or a small fluffy blanket on or near your bed to see if she likes that.

Some cats are simply too energetic (like on of ours) and was only happy after letting her out during the day to expend her energy. We need to be realistic here: cats are cats, and often need more stimulation than dogs but us humans lock them in tiny apartments, alone, with too little stimulation for their brains - meanwhile we walk dogs multiple times a day. My cat does this around his food dish before or after he eats, as if he’s unburying or burying leftovers from another meal (didn’t always do this, no idea where he picked it up, maybe he decided to “bury” a meal he didn’t like at first, but he does it fairly often now… he just did as I typed this 😂). He also does this on our bed, usually before turning around several times and curling up with us. I think it’s part of marking his territory, declaring that this space next to you is his. Jackson Galaxy is an expert on cat behavior, highly recommend. He talks about how cats rub up against things to leave their scent and how cardboard is great for that, which is part of the reason cats love cardboard boxes.

  • I would LOOOOVE to see a "Reviewing my cat" trend take off. I'm always so fascinated watching "non-cat people" or people who have never had a cat, react to their first cat (or if a cat randomly shows up at their house & starts making demands, like OF COURSE youre expected to oblige lol) and how they describe their experience and all the weird things cats do 😂 its so amusing watching people experience cats for the first time - LETS MAKE "REVIEWING MY CAT" A VIRAL TREND!

  • Thanks for making me smile! Air sponges, charcoal deodorizers, and remind yourself that you’d rather have the honk than not have her. Wishing you both joy.

  • For smell, de-worm her, even if you’ve done it before. My kitten was dewormed at the shelter I adopted him from, but sometimes the eggs can linger in their systems and hatch much later. At 6 months old, I dewormed him again and it was a game changer. Diarrhea stopped. His fur grew more luxurious. And he gained weight! If not, I’d continue experimenting with even more foods (I know you said you’ve already tried a bunch). My other cat had foul smelling poops, and I finally found a wet food that agrees with his stomach. Rawz chicken and chicken liver paté.

  • Make sure to read up on how to introduce cats together when you get a new kitten. I had a hard time but what worked for us was feeding them together so they associate something positive with the other cat

  • the “trend mill” thing is a cat marking territory. it’s a way of leaving their scent behind, same as rubbing on your leg, because she loves you

  • You really are so very clever and amazingly humorous! Your delivery is the best.This whole video was perfection but how could it not be with Junior as the subject matter. When you described the hairless cat version as a lung 🫁 I had the biggest laugh I have had in days. Thank you George.
