Today I'm checking over a flock for signs of flystrike, showing you how I identify troubled sheep, and treating a few that show early signs of flystrike.

  • Frequent checks and clearing affected wool, then using a antiseptic fly repellent spray makes a huge difference to sheep comfort.

  • I guess once the affected area is exposed to fresh air and sunshine it will start to heal the skin, poor girl.

    • I'd guess the wool helps create the perfect environment for the eggs to incubate and hatch

    • The Australian green blowfly lays live maggots on the sheep that crawl down and start biting the sheep causing a wound. Here is a video explaining it kzhead.info/sun/hrlvltuJmZOMp5s/bejne.html

    • How many sheep do we have? 2,000 to 3,000 are on the farm most of the year. It's much higher right after lambing. Thanks for your question.

    • I do sometimes, but as a prey animal, sheep are not calmed by the presence of humans.
