    • I wish I was able to take an Art Major, but my parents refused to pay for my classes after I wanted to change major from Electrical Engineering, so I've been mostly been practicing using the tutorials on the internet or reference books in public libraries. Good luck on your journey to becoming a successful artist.

    • I think its worth it im 15 so im still figuring out what i want to do its always been my dream to be a KZhead animationer but idk how to animation this video is making me realize if i want to be an artist full time i need to practice more with animation, drawing and more so my junior year im definitely taking an art class or maybe this year idk if i want to take another cooking class or not it is fun so idk i have so many things i have thought about doing as a future job for example being an art teacher for elementary school, being a baker, being a KZhead animationer, being a graphic novel writer and illustrator for the drawings in the books, owning my own shop and selling stickers and stuff on etsy and its just so hard trying to choose a path to go down so college scares me a bit and im only 15 im not even at the stage of looking for colleges yet you do that when your a junior and still it just freaks me out im just glad to see its okay to make mistakes in life your video helped me see that if i dont like something i can always try something different even tho that might put me in debt for college lones and stuff i hope I'll be able to get through it what im saying is that this video took some of the pick what you want to do for you future for forever fear off my shoulders lol not all of it but at least a bit thank you i cant wait to see more from your channel :D

  • I kinda cried at the "I chose my major for me" part. I really want to pursue art. I'm not the best artist, my art isn't that good, I'm not good at other drawing techniques, and idk how to make money out of it. I feel like i'm gonna be a disappointment and other people would judge. I usually didn't care about what people thought but being an adult who majored in art, being judged by other adults, is scary for me. But I always remind myself of the love and support I get from my parents that not a lot of other parents would give. They told me that whatever I pursue, they'd help me through the entire thing. Or at least until I get myself stable. They encourage me to travel to another country to get better education and learn more about my passions. They tell me that I should get a job or career that I love. And they're right! I love learning about art. I love improving my art, drawing constantly and looking back at my old art to see how much I progressed! I love drawing anything and everything I can! Lately I haven't had the time to draw, which made me sad. I'm actually applying for a school soon that has an art and design strand to pursue my passion! Sure I don't draw daily like other people. Sure my art isn't seen by many. Sure, my art is garbage fire! But that's why i'm applying to this school and this strand, to make my art better and improve my skills! I don't really care about money or status. Sure it'd be nice to be rich and famous, or at least stable and respected. There are lots of ways I can earn money by doing what I love. If ever, i'll just do another job that I can still enjoy my passion at. I don't care who says that art isn't a good career path or a good future, if the world didn't have art we'd be bland as heck! Art is as important as any other job or course. If it wasn't, it wouldn't be an option! So idc what ANYONE and EVERYONE says! Art is my passion, I'm going to pursue it because it's what makes ME happy, it's what makes me feel successful. ❤

I am gonna graduate my high school next year and want to apply for a graphic designer or illustrator! I do get support from my parents which I greatly appreciate but ironically I am my own worst enemy and get a lot of worrying thoughts about my skills and if I am good enough. But I am confident that art is something that I want to strike for my entire life! No matter the major, I will eventually find my passion and become better me! I hope I haven’t caught up too much on this lol but I really wanted to speak up about it, we all can do this no matter what

    • I am the same way. I grew up with the mindset to always please others, and if someone didn’t like me, I was devastated. I would do anything to earn their respect. Then I was confronted by my brother, and he said he almost didn’t know me anymore. Of course, he was referring to the real “me.” I just fell apart after that, because he was totally right, and he had hit the nail on its head. I’m all better now, but my habit still comes back to me every blue moon. But you know what? Growing and going through life is an art in itself. I am also rambling a bit; pardon me. My point is this: don’t let others define you. It’s okay to be a little selfish! As long as you keep it within boundaries of course… be strong and keep practicing if that’s what you’re going to do! I know I am 😁. Thanks for sharing! 👍

  • It’s interesting that the 3D animation course made you model and texture so much, at my school 3D animation focuses completely on animating while there’s another concentration for texturing/modeling and rigging (technical animation)

    @Ashe341@Ashe3415 ай бұрын

    • If it makes you feel better, I think VERY often about an animation industry I once went to. The speaker was talking from the perspective of being someone who looks at portfolios and offers job interviews. He said that sometimes there are artists who apply and they seem like they're just no good, that they won't make it into the industry. So they get rejected. BUT sometimes that rejected person will then continue practicing and learning, and apply again (to a different project or company, since time has passed). And it's almost impossible to tell it's from the same person from how much they improved, and they get a job. There are also people who start working in the industry in their 30s or 40s. Like, they had a different job and then started learning art, animation, programming, or whatever it was they were interested in.They apply, and get a job. It's possible! Just keep at it!!

I know I'm *technically* capable of the same or better quality work now... but back then I didn't have to worry about college and traffic conditions 😅 Kids have more uninterrupted time to hone their craft. The effort a 13 year old puts into banging out a flipaclip amv in 5 hours on a Friday night would be equivalent to like... two or so weeks of an 18-20 year old working on a hobbyist project between class or work. It's hard to not have huge blocks of time to get better at something, but I promise you're still improving even in those little moments of work.

    • if you want to learn any 3d skill, its important to understand that its basically opposite in technique when compared to more physical art forms. in painting, drawing, sculpting, and 2d animation, its easy to add more details, but a change of perspective means reworking a lot or all of the work. in 3d, its the opposite. a change of perspective is trivial, and complex perspective isn't even worried about, but details of any kind are tedious to add and often must be entirely changed because of a single problem. 2d skills are still extremely valuable to a 3d artist but the are almost reversed. hope this wasn't too verbose.

  • I felt the exact same regarding 3D animation. I had to take intro to CGI and it was awful because almost none of my artistic skills were useful anymore. It was way more mathematical than I expected and after many panic attacks and skipped classes I just barely passed. 2D is harder to get a high paying job in, but if it’s what you enjoy there is no substitute 💙

  • Hi shortcxke! I found your channel through Discord. It is so great that you changed paths and followed through with your dreams, even when you felt you couldn't handle the 3D animation major. I went through a very similar process dropping out of my engineering grad degree. "Study math education? Be a tutor? How will you make any money?" Following my heart ended up being for the best as I was able to pour more passion into what I was doing. Now, I am going to use my education channel to change the world :) You have talent! Keep up the great work and if I ever make it big I would definitely hire you to animate a special video or two. Peace!

  • You're a winner in my book, you got the best of both worlds. Animating in 3D and 2D! I did comics when I was younger but didn't have time for it, and now I'm working on 3D animations, not completely at the level that I want but it's something, I'm sure you'll make it big out there. I would ask for some art but I don't have much or make much when it comes to bills and stuff I have to pay but I do try to keep at it regardless, though I know for a fact [and you even said it in the video] that 2D art is a strain on your hands so that makes things hard to keep a study flow of art coming out but I'm sure with single frames shorts you'll still do well.

  • Hey! I just wanted to say I found this video and I wanted to thank you for it! I'm currently about to head off for college next semester and thinking about doing art for the long haul has been really stressful for me. My first idea was also animation and specifically 2D since it's what I'm most comfortable with. But lately, I've been harsh on myself since I'm more into the storytelling and illustration aspect of art rather than the movements. Hearing how you switched majors to studio art instead of animation really helped me calm down. It makes me feel less of a failure and gives me hope to find that one major that fits the career I want! And also hearing how you want to become a KZhead Animator inspired me as a person who grew up on youtube and has thought about uploading since I first saw art. Thank you again for your video, I appreciate you making it. Good luck on your future! I wish you nothing but the best from one fellow artist to another. ❤️

  • Thank you for giving out tips, Shortcxke! I'm planning to go to an art college because it has been my dream to be an artist ever since I was in middle school. But, as a newbie who is going to college sooner or later, it felt relief as there are people like you handing out tips or advice from experience so that I won't have to make a mistake for choosing a class that I don't feel comfortable doing so. And I think you changing your major is a good thing. Not everyone have to force themselves to something that they're not happy with just for the sake of others. You are you and don't let anyone's desires affect yourself, otherwise you'll be in a state that is unhealthy or unhappy to you. Remember to take care of yourself, drink some water (or any drink/juice), and do what you love, ok? Ok :> (Btw at the beginning when you asked what you look like, you look like Vee from Owl House when she shape-shift as her human-self in the 2nd Season.)

It took me 6 years just to do an associates of science for animation and i chose not to transfer because uni is so expensive. I didn't even know there were universities that could be under 11k in california. Good for you for finishing the degree. trust me, that "What was it all for" is exactly how i feel too, and thing is, if you work on your portfolio and go to conventions, you'll learn that the only thing that degree can do, is help you, in no way does it hurt. But our portfolios speak first. having that degree provides an extra toe on the foot you're putting in the door.
