Steph could easily be steve Nash or better. It’s best for NBA, his teammates and fans if Curry shoots first. He still plays FOR his teammates first, and is an ELITE passer left right, plus top 5 handle all time. What can’t Steph do that a All time great point can

      @deejack2475@deejack24758 ай бұрын
    • @@deejack2475 I am not saying he's not top tier. But since you asked the question... Steph is not even top 40 in assists. Whether total or assists per game. But again, I don't necessarily hold that against him. It's a different game today. Defense is comparatively weak and he can probably contribute more by attempting 17-18 FG per game. Oh, the other thing Steph is actually weak (but has gotten much better recently) is defense. Not even top 20 among guards

      @zacharywhite211@zacharywhite2118 ай бұрын
    • @@nealcassady-yn3bh They’re speaking on most skilled point guard tho. Magic stats are heavily influenced by his size and athleticism which are not Pg skills. Who has the better handle, the better off hand, the better pass left and right, the best full court handle. Who makes the game EASIEST for his teammates. Westbrook averages 8.3 assist for his career, curry 6.5. Do you think Westbrook is a better passer.? When kd was in golden state steph could’ve milked the ball in pick and roll and racked up assist after assist in a Mike Dantoni type offense. But no like a true point guard steph plays the game a way that benefits his teammates and winning first. In the pick and roll steph is too dangerous, he’s instantly doubled for the past 10 years. Setting up 4-3 situations, setting up easy hockey assist for teammates. I done watch guys like harden in his prime get doubled at half court, and throw weak passes because he doesn’t care if he’s not getting the assist. Steph puts it on the money everytime in that situation over 7 footers or who ever with the hook pass left or right creating the 4-3. His game is all about pressuring the Defense, to make the game EASIEST for his teammates, Which is the primary job of a PG. Steph is a different type point guard but he is still a point guard at heart, maxed out in all the point fundamentals. He has no weakness in a point guard trait, but ohh his stats, bro is one of the most sacrificial players to ever play at the expense of winning and playing for his teammates. He is bending the defense off the ball and creating wide open lays for teammates while coming off flare screens. Ain’t that what point guards do, curry does that without touching the ball. His biggest weakness probably is getting 1 on 1 buckets like shooting guards such as D Wade, Jordan, booker, Dame etc. His 3 point shot is used to pressure the defense to break and create openings for his teammates. His 3 shot is used to influence the game as a point guard should, make the game EASIER for his teammates. The celebration makes the defense bend and break even more. Steph curry is a point GOD at heart and is always a step ahead of the defense like a great point guard should be

      @deejack2475@deejack24758 ай бұрын
    • The except be 6’9 part is pretty crucial though. He can’t rebound the way that Magic could. That’s significant. I’m not even saying Magic is better, I’m just tired of the recency bias that so many NBA fans have. I think that it’s only because Curry is still playing that so many people think of him as being better than Magic. Same thing as the MJ vs Lebron GOAT “debate”. I put debate in quotes because I think MJ is easily the GOAT and it shouldn’t be up for discussion. 6-0 in the Finals. 6 Finals MVPS. 5 regular season MVPS. Defensive player of the year. College title. Seemingly hit every clutch shot in the playoffs. Won the title each of his final six FULL seasons with the Bulls and did it all in 13 NBA seasons. Spent significantly less time in the league and still has way better/more impressive accolades than Lebron (especially in the playoffs).

      @mattg6390@mattg63908 ай бұрын
    • @@mattg6390 yea but since when was rebounding a point guard skill. Magic the better player in my opinion but stephs the better point. James the goat, he is the top athlete over Jordan or anybody else, not even close. Bron stopping Jordan before Jordan stopping prime Bron. Michaels accolades cool, but GS would pick apart and destroy bulls, force Jordan to reconstruct his whole roster, fire their big men, and still may get beat every year by 14- 19 warriors

      @deejack2475@deejack24758 ай бұрын
    • @@mattg6390 I find kind of hilarious that you are "tired of the recency bias" towards active players but have nothing to say about retired players being put on an untouchable pedestal as soon as they step off the court. Now, don't get me wrong, I have Magic in my top 3 all time and Steph at 7 or 8, depending on the day. However, to say that is "blasphemy" to put Curry in the same category as Magic, as Mad Dog is doing here, shows exactly that kind of attitude: past legends can never be surpassed because people like him (and there's a lot) reject the very idea to begin with. The bar for active players to be considered on the same level as past superstars gets higher and higher for no reason. Curry actually provides a great example of this. You have no idea how many comments I've seen arguing that if Curry wins one or two more chips then maybe he's top 10, when there's no other superstar with 4 rings that is not considered a top 10 player of all time. Or how many people say stuff like "Magic will always be the goat PG no matter what". You talk of recency bias but in reality active players always get the short end of the stick and are required to prove themselves doing double the work past players did. And quite frankly I'm tired of that attitude.

  • The NBA is officiated different now compared to when Magic played. So comparing players of different times is hard. There was no restricted zone under the rim when Magic played. Hand checking was allowed and you could restrict the man cutting across the lane without the ball. There also were no flagrant fouls, so fouls to stop a layup could be pretty physical. Also, the step back we see now would have been a travel, and people today get away with palming or a carry that would have been a violation in the past.

    • Stephen A's explanation makes a lot of sense to be honest. Michael said it himself - you have to first define what a point guard is, or what exactly we're talking about in order to have a serious debate. Magic Johnson is the very definition of a point guard, if we're leaning on the historical definition. But Steph is something new, something else entirely, so there's no way to really compare the two according to the historical definition of a point guard. The only way to make a comparison would be to look at their overall impact on their teams' offenses and winning overall, and if you are doing that then Steph Curry vs Magic Johnson is an actual debate and could go either way depending on what a person values more.

Look at the early 2000's nets and you'll find somehow a Magic flavor in what he did (with much less talented teammates !!!!!). And this might not be a coincidence that both have tremendous triple doubles numbers, etc etc. Curry is different animal, and plays as a modern PG, shooting the ball, creating space for others in a different manner. We will probably be more accurate to compare some years after Steph retirement.
