Not only was he extremely gifted, but the guy was amazingly entertaining, even as a child growing up in a Knicks household. You despised him, but he was beyond great. I'm purple and gold forever, but to me, LeBron is a great player who has lasted longer. Even though Emmitt Smith is the all-time leading rusher, I don't think he was better than Barry Sanders. • @@von1626 yes they can… many players can have their own unique talents as well. but nevertheless, the debate is simply due to the two people being very close in talent; which I would still just take as a concession that lebron fans just want to at least elevate him to a “photo-finish” if he is nevertheless #2 all-time and I think that’s where Stephen A actually hit the nail on the head with that one - that being definitively all-time #2 is just a bitter-sweet SOB; though, he truly has soooo many accolades to fall-back-on, that legit he’s cool with it, especially because people can even delude themselves into beliving he could be #1. but ya, my opinion of the whole thing is that Jordan is all-time the face of basketball. He is the “babe ruth” (even though he’s WAY more epically famous and successful than babe ruth), and he just did it during a squeaky clean 90s where the control of tv media marketing was so much more potent; vs the weird era Lebron exists in, and this type of debate made possible through the internet, which he has been so guilty of completely feeding into the hype the whole time… I dno

Lebron's career is soo impressive mostly because his longevity. If it wasn't for his longevity, if him and Mike both had 15 seasons, when you compare Jordan's 15 seasons and Lebron's 15 seasons, you understand how far Lebron James is from Jordan. Jordan in his 15 seasons had 6 championships, Lebron in his 15 seasons had half as many😭😭🤣, Jordan in his 15 seasons had 6 Finals MVPs, Lebron only had 3. Jordan had 5 MVPs, Lebron had 4. Now, only with these 3 segments Jordan is ON ANOTHER LEVEL FROM LBJ, and than when you add Jordan's 10 scoring titles compating to Lebron's 1, when you compare Jordan's 9 first defensive teams comparing to Lebron's 5, when you compare Jordan's 3 stealing titles to Lebron's 1 assist title... That gab is huge. So that's I'm talking about, now when you add Lebron's 20 seasons some people think they might've been close, but when you at the context... It's only an illution and Jordan is the clear GOAT of this sport.

To act like it's not a legit debate now is to ignore all of the context and just make surface level arguments. When the man is showing that on any given night he can still be the best player on the floor at 39, you don't acquit yourself by just pretending the debate is laughable. The thing that makes the debate so compelling IMO is the difference in style of the players. The irony is that the people who love MJ are the type that would hate to work with such a shitty team player at their work. They would complain about the arrogant prick they work with, but love MJ's "killer" personality or "Mamba" mentality even if they shit on others around them. LeBron is the guy that makes everyone better and makes everyone look better while giving them the credit when asked. He's the ideal teammate and co-worker, but people hate that in a sports guy. Obviously people will hate LeBron for his political activism and outspokenness on certain topics, but if we limit it to just basketball (which is borderline impossible nowadays) it's a worthwhile debate and much closer than fixed mindset Jordan supporters will ever admit it is.
