For one night only in November 1966, Muhammad Ali was perfect.
This sits on KZhead hopefully for the remainder of human history. As moving time capsule of the greatest of our species.

  • No wonder this fight is often called Ali's "Perfect Fight". The beauty of his head movement to dodge Cleveland's punches, the artistry of his eye catching footwork, the many feint movements to confuse Cleveland and the lovely combinations when he decides to attack. I am amazed at his ability to throw a knockout punch while retreating. (The first knock down) Who does that? And finally his trade mark occasional hitting of his gloves against each other in a show of confidence, occasionally tapping his forehead with one of his gloves. I have never enjoyed boxing like he displayed in his prime. The GOAT.

Anyone else would probably have retired after losing their livelihood, Ali never lost his title in the Ring, but he won it back, and the hearts of, not just the American people, but people the world over! Ali transcended Boxing, he had so many levels to him. But most of all, he was a man of the people.

  • Did you notice how chiseled an athlete Cleveland "Big Cat" Williams was, and Ali was masterful in dismantling William's. Ali has never been knocked out, knocked down a few times but immediately came up to win the fight except when he lost his first fight to Frazier by a decision. The Ali/Frazier trilogy is the greatest trilogy in boxing history.

  • I have always been a big Ali fan - going back over 50 years. However in this fight poor Cleveland Williams had been shot by police a couple of years earlier and he was past his prime. Ali had a great fight but Mr. Williams probably should not have been in the ring that night. I actually feel sorry for Cleveland Williams in this fight. Ali got the job done but was not vicious - this is one of the qualities that made him great. George Foreman said the same.

    • He probably could've become more 'muscular' using gym weights, so that he could hit harder, if he'd wanted to, but the trade-off would be that in doing so, he'd have lost some of the speed from his punches, which he didn't want to do. I don't think that Ali ever went into the ring with the intention to seriously hurt his opponent (unlike some other boxers I could mention). Indeed, in a number of his fights during the 1960's, he motioned to the referee to step in to stop the fight, when he knew that his opponent had had enough. He was poetry in motion in a boxing ring - the sad part is that, like many boxers, he ended up paying a terrible personal price.

    @CousinJesse1@CousinJesse12 жыл бұрын
    • According to the police report Williams resisted arrest, and the officer's .357 magnum revolver went off during an ensuing struggle, hitting Williams in the stomach and lodging in his right hip. Williams had to undergo four operations in the next seven months for colon damage and an injured right kidney. The right kidney had to be removed in June 1965. Doctors could not extract the bullet, which had broken his right hip joint and caused partial paralysis of some of the hip's muscles, he also lost over 10 feet (3.0 m) of his small intestine, and sustained nerve damage which affected his left leg above the knee and caused it to atrophy as a result.
