  • Great review. Would you be able to compare these and the X55 to the Neumann NDH-30 (open backs)? I have the Neumanns and was wondering if I should get a pair of the Austrian Audio X55 or X65. Thanks!

    @alex.muntean@alex.muntean Жыл бұрын
    • The 55 are a bit mid forward and have some significant resonance... Which can be appealing to some. The 65 have a pure sound and is more balanced... Also is the most detailed headphone I have tested. The 65 is an all around better headphone.

  • Thanks for this Nico - I had already ordered a pair for £312 (UK) just this morning and just came here to make sure I made the right decision. Looks like I did! Am very used to using Closed Backs (Beyer DT150s for years as a sound recordist), And then M50x or M40x's for mixing. Not really used open backs very often and am curious to know how these will fair. I use sonar works to get a flat EQ on all my headphones - and I will with these too. I am much more interested in how detailed they are supposed to sound, and the stereo sound stage (happy that they aren't unnaturally wide!). Do you have any thoughts on that at all?

    @timspencer1@timspencer1 Жыл бұрын
    • Hi there. Great decision. The Hi-X65 are the most revealing pair of headphones currently on the market. They will out perform your ATH and Beyer headphones dramatically. While they are not the most balanced on the planet... I use them regularly for audio analysis. They are geared towards this task as well as mastering. You can definitely use them in regular mixing but you will likely just need to acquaint yourself with the mids. They are a bit mid forward. You will find them much more pleasant to listen to compared to your existing cans because the ATH and Beyer cans are known for harsh sybalant highs and the ATH are a bit boomy.

  • Absolutely love the HI-X65 especially after some eq. Easily the most clearest and detailed headphone under $1000 and easily competes with headphones over $1000. I find them as detailed or more detailed than the OG Focal Clear. While the Clear may have better build and comfort, I find the HI-X65 to have similar soundstage but with superior instrument separation and dynamics on the level of the Focal Clear and overall detail that I find edges the Clear slightly. Overall amazing value in the sound quality competing with headphones over $1000. Love them. With eq they just get better.

    • no chance against the Neumanns 20 and 30, that are 600 or Sennheiser 300 which are 300... These 3 compete with 1500 dollar and above...Forget the 1000 category , that's for audio phile nerds, which sit below mastering engineers....

Do you think the Hi-x65 would be better than the dt 1990 pros for competitive gaming (pinpointing enemy footsteps and other important sound cues), or do you think the sennheiser 300's would be better? • @@NicoKnowsTech Similar to the Hi-65x. I think both sound natural without something sounding off. Both image good left to right and front to back. The Hi-x65 does this a little better, Hi-x65 is also a little more detailed but make it a little harder to listen to. I made a $200 offer to the Ebay seller in China and they still have them in stock. It took about 3 weeks to get them and they looked brand new. Easily the best $200 headphones you can get unless you get lucky on Craigslist or something.

    @EroP0o0@EroP0o02 жыл бұрын
    • DT770 Pro are better balanced. HI-X15 are more detailed and have less distortion. If you were only going to own one pair of studio headphones, the DT770 are more versatile while the HI-X15 are a better listening experience. Austrian Audio headphones are EXTREMELY detailed and analytical. The HI-X15 has a bit more Soundstage out of the box. The DT770 Pro require some earpad replacement to give them better Soundstage and to reduce some harshness in the highs.

  • People might hate on me for asking this questions, but I would primarily be buying these for competitive gaming with listening to music on my PC being 2nd most important to gaming, and I was wondering if you think these would be better for gaming than the dt 1990 pro's? I have 2 weeks left to return the DT 1990s and I just don't know if the they're for me with the fatiguingly high treble with their sound signature. So do you think that I would be better off hearing and pinpointing enemy footsteps and other audio cues with the Hi-X65s or the 1990 Pros? Or would you recommend another set of headphones in the $400-$550 price range mainly for competitive gaming? Thanks for the video! Have a wonderful day! (I am also using the Dekoni Elite fenestrated sheepskin earpads with the 1990s)

    @notblazedfordays9536@notblazedfordays9536 Жыл бұрын
    • The Beyerdynamics are known for that harsh treble. The HI-X65 are known for being extremely detailed and I know several people who use them for competitive gaming. The HI-X65 lack the harsh treble and are a bit mid forward which makes them really good at pinpointing details such as footsteps.

At first i thoguht, maybe in the 5 years since i brought my last mx50's they've changed something.... but then someone mentioned how worn in my old mx50's were etc so having a new pair with new pads might make them sound different.... anyways, these prompted me to buy the Hi-X65's - Didn't like them...tried playing with some EQ settings using PEACE etc but just couldn't get on with them - they were great for music, and Warzone - but i predominantly play PUBG and for that.... I dunno, they just didn't sound right. I've paired these with an IFI Zen Dac v2. I've currently gone back to my new mx50's and turned off EQ so they're out the box, and I'm slowly getting used to them again and comparing them more to my old mx50's that i sat on and broke :D

  • Do you know how the Avatone Planar's compare to these?

    @vmi4172@vmi41722 жыл бұрын
    • Both are absolutely great headphones as I own both. And both are seriously competing with headphones over $1000. Both benefit heaps with eq though, they don't need it. But with eq, they both are potential endgame headphones. The HI-X65 has technicalities similar to the Focal Clear. Similar soundstage size, similar resolution and clarity, similar detail and dynamics but I find the HI-X65 to have better instrument separation. This is especially apparent with EQ. The Avantone Planar is very similar to the Audeze LCD-X 2021. It has less slam in the low end. But I actually find the low end to be cleaner, better textured and better separation between sub and mid bass with faster decay. Detail is on par after eq to the LCD-X 2021, but still the HI-X65 brings out more detail overall but the Planar is no slouch. What the Planar does better is weight in vocals and instruments. It has a very natural sounding timbre with voices and instruments. Soundstage may be slightly larger on the Avantone Planar when compared to the HI-X65 but the HI-X65 has more precise and pin-point imaging. Treble on the Avantone Planar is very neutral/warm, there is some sparkle but it is on the more tamed side. They both are great headphones without eq, but eq does really take them to the next level. You basically get a more mature Focal Clear with the HI-X65 after eq and a more mature LCD-X 2021 with the Avantone Planar. It just depends. Do you value very high resolution, great dynamics, extremely pin-point imaging, very high detail. Or more natural thicker weight in your music, more natural sounding and a slightly larger stage? The HI-X65 is much lighter but the Planar isn't crazy heavy. They both are great and honestly, it would be great to have both. Just depends if you want hyper clarity and detail with great dynamics and slam. Or a more natural and weighty sound. I love both.

      @S.G54321@S.G543212 жыл бұрын
    • @@S.G54321 Avantone Planar are true Hi-Fi headphones with a bit more punch on the low end. The Hi-X65 are pro audio studio cans and will be a bit more analytical and detailed, however when comparing the Avantone Planar to the Hi-X65... the Avantone Planar are a bit more fun. I would NEVER perform pro audio work on the Avantone Planar. Sound stage is pretty comparable. Hi-X65 for analytical experience and pro audio. Avantone Planar for Hi-Fi enjoyment at home.

      @NicoKnowsTech@NicoKnowsTech2 жыл бұрын
    • @@NicoKnowsTech why do you say that the avantone planar has more fun when it has more neutral frequency response? The x65 yes has more detail but this is because of the treble boost I think.

      @ChrisKeyman@ChrisKeyman2 жыл бұрын
    • @@ChrisKeyman No the X65 has a very capable and extremely techincal driver. Detail isn't only in the treble but rather the whole frequency. Heaps of detail in the low end and mids. The Avantone Planar, while warm/neutral is actually a nice fun and enjoyable headphone to listen to due to how it presents music in a musical yet smooth way. It sounds effortless and natural while having very fast transients and that Planar snap.
