I have a pair of these coming tomorrow in part based on your excellent review and the fact that my ears have now "outgrown" the HD25s that I've been using for a while (great for DJing due to their flexibility eg but not so for mixing!). Yes, I do a lot of mixing using cans and have also ordered some Beyers for A-B-ing. I did have a bit of a scare when I checked the frequency response graphs on SoundStageNetwork but a quick re-watch of your review gave me the reassurance I needed. Also, the fact that you do own quite a collection of cans sealed it for me! I really can't wait to try them.
Mike, excellent summary at the end of how you valued the headphones. You really tied it together well.
I have to agree with you Mike, they are my favorites as well. I have had them for a while now and very happy with them. Initially was looking at the x55 but didn’t want a closed headphone. So waited for the x65 and bought them when they came out and never looked back
I love my beyerdynamic 990 and on another note, I hope you are doing/feeling better:)
great review! Thanks! :)
Great review Mike - including one LOL moment (I won't spoil it for anyone!) They seem a great all rounder!
This and the closed back version of it (hi-x55) are my new favourites
I have thought about giving them a go! Thanks for the vid. ATM i'm using Neumann NDH20 Closed-back. I wish they had a Open back version. The one thing i have noticed when i take my Phones off and pop back to the monitors my mix seams to not fall apart. But i also work supper quite and i think this helps. I think the HI-x65s might be my next choice for openback. Thanks Again!!
Love them too
A little out of my price range but their site does show Closed back models at lower prices, so am looking forward to buying a my next set. I have many but find that I use my 30 yr old Fostex T20RPs with new ear pads the most.
Thanks for this Mike - I had already ordered a pair for £312 just this morning and just came here to make sure I made the right decision! Am very used to using Closed Backs (Beyer DT150s for years as a sound recordist), And then M50x or M40x's for mixing. Not really used open backs very often and am curious to know how these will fair. I use sonar works to get a flat EQ on all my headphones - and I will with these too. I am much more interested in how detailed they are supposed to sound, and the stereo sound stage. Do you have any thoughts on that?
Nice... That said, I love my Superlux HD 681 Dynamic Semi-Open Headphones. They have a nice flat response, great seporation, and really stand out for $35!
I still put them on to check my mix, they're the only open-backs I have ATM, also use them for general listening cos of comfort.
I use a pair of Beyer Dynamic DT931's. They are over thirty years old still in excellent condition and feel like "your favourite comfy slippers". I don't know if they sound good compared to more modern headphones but I do know their sound which to me is the important thing. :P
How would compare these to the Focal Elex, Beyer Dynamic 1990, or Dan Clark Aeon X?
Dislike cables - especially curly ones (and yet I have them). Been waiting for this video and (budgetary reasons) going with the DT770s (closed back) pulling that trigger in the next week or so. Love the spec humor in the video (that was great) - taking notes here :)
dt770s are ass
You know the sound of extraordinary quality, having sampled the Ollo S4X.
Oi - yours are the S4R - still top-drawer cans...!
And compared with the Audio Technica MSR7? How about treble extension and detail?
I'm slightly intrigued by those huge LED level meters to your left & right. The sound seems in the middle to me but the meter on the right side shows more level in many parts. Not that this is significant or something ... just wondering :-D Oh and I'm glad I didn't jump on the Ollo wagon yet.
Yes - its annoying that they are out of balance! But no practical use - just for fun :) I do like the Ollo's, but these perform a little better, and much easier to wear for a few hours :) Actually, super comfortable.
How do they compare to the dt770 pros? Im wondering wether to buy the Hi-X60 or the Dt770 Pro
Hi Mike. One thing that is often missed from reviews of headphones is their comfort for spectacle-wearers. I have been using Yamaha HPH-MT8 for a few years and although I am happy with the audio side, they are not really comfortable when I am wearing glasses. How are the Hi-x65 ? Regards from South Australia.
Hey, I wear glasses and use x65’s daily, they are very comfortable.
I use them quite often, with different (3 kinds of) glasses and even after some 6 - 8 hours, I cannot feel any uncomfort with the AAs. I have an older AKG which gives me marks and spots that hurt after even one hour. So be guaranteed, they are very comfortable.
proprietary cables/pads is a dealbreaker.....
hey do u still use the Z-5500 ?
Are these OK for music listening Hifi
Anyone know how these compare to the Avatone Planar's? I love the way the Planar's sound but I can't stand the feeling of having a box set on my head. These hix65's obviously look more comfortable but what about the sound?
I just wish more manufacturers would use the AKG-style headband. It's soft without the downsides of foam, and it adapts to your head shape allowing for the weight to be spread as evenly as possible. Should be standard!
Better than the Ollo's? I'm in the market for some new studio cans as I only have one set of AT M50x's.
Yes, Ollos were my favourite until these. The sound is comparable, but these are more comfortable.
@@CreativeSauce hello, what about the Lcd-1?
