  • Note: Im not quite as dumb as I look (sometimes). I can spot posts from anonymous You Tube accounts touting other brands. When that happens its counterproductive for "said" attempts...

  • Having worked in the leather trade for 30 years this is basic ... Leather grease and tar remover would do the same thing and Fiebing's Leather Dye to bring the colour back but be spairing as its a liquid and will go into the sponge below.... this stuff is a fraction of the cost of that stuff. but good explanation but it pays to be gentle with the sanding.

  • Nicely done. I think with anything car related thst is being restored it is important to be realistic on your expectation, unless you are getting a total retrim or repaint completely. That was a great point as you can take anything, even paint for a polish and detail, and the person may not be able to get it perfect. These look great compared to before.

  • I use their COLOURLOCK new car Leather Cleaning 1 x COLOURLOCK Mild Leather Cleaner, 125 ml 1 x COLOURLOCK Leather Shield, 150 ml 1 x Cleaning Sponge1 x Cleaning Cloth on the X6 and it seems to work great. • Does the paint offer the same coating protection that the seats had from the factory and can you do finish to use leather protectants like you did before?

    @stevemclean5787@stevemclean57874 жыл бұрын
    • hey steve no mate. The colorlock fresh is a mix of paint and binders. But its a single system product. Its a DIY fix, done to be user friendly, cheap and less processes. Colorlock also sell pro method which is spraying primer, base color, and clearcoat products in 3 layers just like car paint (with compressor and spray gun). When you use the pro method you will get closer to OEM standards. Or I would imagine you could impart "beyond" OEM durability if you put more top coat down for example. but thats beyond my knowledge. So the colorlock fresh kit we used in this video wont be as good as the full pro method. at least in my head. I think we talked about this in the previous video we did a few years ago when RAm sprayed it using the pro methodd.

    • very good point you should mask up. We did an alcantara video cleaning. so the middle section was wet and we could not tape it. but we were just carefull not to dab paint onto the alcantara.. but the paint can be wiped up before it dries.. worth saying this paint wont bleech anything as well.

  • Enjoyed that Jon, I would however liked to have seen this applied by airbrush / mini spraygun aswell as sponge, just see the difference in application, as I was a spray painter for 17 years . I understand it would probably have taken up too much of both your time , but maybe a future video perhaps. ? . This is something I would consider doing as a profession , with the detailing / valeting market being very saturated around my neck of the woods. 👍👍

  • Just out of curiosity, could you sand down a leather seat using the fine sand paper, maybe start at 500 and work up to 1500 or 2000 then buff using a leather conditioner as opposed to re painting? (I’m thinking of this the way I’d think of removing orange peel) Or do you always have to repaint when you sand leather

    @supremebeing7834@supremebeing78344 жыл бұрын
    • you sanding to prep the surface for painting.. your going to remove paint or any clearcoat on the leather whtn you sand.. so only sand when refininshing.

  • Sanding and degreasing the leather must dry the leather out completely then its painted so there's a barrier stopping the leather being fed with product which surely can only decrease and encourage the leather to wear and crack even quicker like dry skin. Question - If you go out and can caught in the rain the sit in the car in damp jeans do you get a black ass?

    • My wife sat on our old cream sofa with wet blue jeans on and it stained onto the sofa. Leather is porous so I'd say theres a chance it could go the other way too. Might test it on the wifes car first 😂

    @642lin@642lin4 жыл бұрын
    • I used shoe polish on a '98 Passat - badly worn - and it came up nicely, but a litle bit sticky. I'll try giving it a vigorous buffing, maybe some kind of sealant. Now, though, I'd use the proper leather dye and sealant.

  • It looks too shiny. Stock leather is quite matte. Imagine a dash in leather, you don't want glare. Can it be done in matte?

    @erolfox@erolfox4 жыл бұрын
    • it has a 4000w halogen shining on it. it has a slight amount of satin there but if you want matt you can specify. but the finish is great its not at all glossy or glaring.
