    • @@SPZ909 This is a garbage take buddy, Shaq played 38-40 minutes a game in his prime and mind you he averaged 40 minutes a game in his MVP season playing 79 games. He was the Diesel and original Superman for a reason. Lakers at that time also LOVE to slow the pace. A game centered around Shaq would be slow as hell cause he's constantly drawing fouls and making good percentage shots that allow the Lakers to set their half court defense. Guys today can barely play back to back games or play 60+ games, let alone take the physical beating Shaq had to endure. This man took some of the HARDEST fouls of all time, played from October til June in 3 straight seasons, all while winning 3 straight FINALS mvp. Get out of here lmaooooooo

      @dcshow@dcshow3 жыл бұрын
    • domcarter yea 03 was there best year I believe also. It’s just crazy how that front office never tried to get younger and add more athletic players around those two like the mavs, kings and spurs were doing at that time. It also would have been better for shaq to extend his prime while Kobe became the number 1 option

      @davidarnold2156@davidarnold21563 жыл бұрын
    • As it is, they probably win in '03 if Horry's 3 doesn't rim out in game 5 vs the Spurs and perhaps in '04 if Malone wasn't injured before the finals(they were 32-8 with him.) Interestingly, the Lakers traded away the talent and athleticism they did have around Shaq and Kobe by ditching Jones, Campbell and Van Exel for little in return all in '98-'99 so they never had as much overall talent as the Blazers and Kings. They won with a cast of old, defensive minded players who weren't offensive threats. The 2000 team didn't even have perimeter shooting around Shaq and Kobe(5th worst 3 point shooting team.) The problem in '03 was Shaq delaying his surgery since the Lakers started 3-9 without him and Shaq wasn't immediately in shape to carry the offense as he had in the past so Phil had Kobe do it and he had his 40 point streak, but by this time in March, Shaq was 100% so Phil ran the offense through him again. That created a conflict since both guys had now been alphas and neither wanted to defer. Also, in '04 Payton never fit in the triangle and was rapidly declining much like Glen Rice in '00 so the offense looked better with Fisher.

      @mattray9904@mattray99042 жыл бұрын
    • I think the 2nd half of the '01 season and playoffs was by far the best they played as a duo and the best any duo has played. Kobe figured it out after the Lakers went 11-3 without him and returned to become the facilitator, but still managed over 29/7/6 in the playoffs in the flow of the offense while keeping his defensive effort close to 2000. Kobe became stronger and more skilled by 2003 without losing athleticism, but the '01 playoffs was probably the most well-rounded he was. At the same time, Shaq was back in peak 2000 form and averaged over 30/15/3 in the playoffs.

    • @@mattray9904 No perimeter scorers in 2000 bruh?? Does Kobe Glen Rice Fox Horry & Fisher & B Shaw ring a bell?? Yea I loved EJ Nick the Quick & Elden wish they would've kept them because they with the other core from that team 4Peat for sure & they are easily the most talented team like in 1998 or 2000

This could be considered the tail end of prime Shaq, amazing he was still able to average 28 after gaining all that weight. Its crazy noticeable too. From 2000-03 you can tell he gained each year.

Shaq's highest dunking games as a Laker: 3/6/00 at LAC - 11 3/19/02 at DAL - 11 3/21/03 vs BOS -11 3/26/03 at HOU -10 Maybe you can get your hands on the Mavs game too? • And yet in '04, it wasn't Shaq who sank them, it was Kobe. He shot 38% vs Detroit, averaged TWO rebounds a game, FOUR assists a game. He was so bad that he eventually single-handedly took responsibility for that loss. He admitted it. It wasn't Shaq's shape or age, it was Kobe's beating up a teenager and namechecking Shaq in Colorado and then intentionally sinking the Lakers in Detroit that kept them from rings 4 and 6 in '04 and '06. He also cockblocked Lebron's coming in 2010 and knocked the Lakers out of four more. Just so he could say he won two like a big boy himself! In short, Shaq was better out of shape than Kobe was in it. People also don't take Shaq's injuries into account, but had no issue when Kobe went 208-243 in his last 6 seasons as a Laker, starting at age 32. Coincidentally, that's the same age Shaq was when he won a championship with Miami lol
