How serious is this issue?
Bengaluru is currently in grave crisis. And this shortage is because of depleting water resources including drying up of borewells. The IT capital of India is currently facing its worst water crisis ever as many people are unable to get celan drinking water. Abhi and Niyu talk about the current issues that Bengaluru is facing, highlighting a fact that this is a warning for all other cities and states to consider water conservation seriously.
The video covers some important aspects like how absence of proper planning led to water shortage, and how it further leads to man-made disaster like flooding during monsoons. India has been exporting water to other countries in the form of high intensive crops like Sugarcane and Rice and this is quite serious because the groundwater levels are declining.
As always Abhi and Niyu also discuss some innovative solutions which every household can implement and how government can implement policies like mandatory RAINWATER HARVESTING with the ultimate aim to conserve water. Because it is important for us to realize that water is a GIFT and we must conserve it together!

    • More than just the glacier melts, China seems quite intent on damming up the “source streams”. This is a relatively small amount of water that gets diverted but that would almost definitely make the rivers that they feed monsoon dependent. But rainwater is fast-running. It runs into the sea so fast that about 2-3 days after a major storm, you’re left dry. This is why rainwater harvesting is an important step. We build major buildings long before we think of drainage and sewage. This is a problem in most cities. Then, the temple tanks and lakes that were a natural way to recharge the groundwater table have been encroached.

      @Roiwatchingyou@RoiwatchingyouАй бұрын
    • @@youcantseemelilkidd This is the real problem with environmentalists. It’s a tight-rope walk. On one hand, usage of resources generates jobs and stability in the region. On the other hand, there are the problems of pollution. The major issue is also that no way or system presently exists to “replenish” natural resources. You can plant seeds and grow trees if you have sufficiently receptive soil and access to water, particularly freshwater. In many mountainous regions, landslides occur more due to deforestation because nothing holds the top soil in place. Similarly, depletion of soil and resultant drought occurs in more fertile lands due to excess farming because there is nothing to naturally arrest the flow of water. But when it comes to mines, no method exists today to create new veins of metals or returning excess metals to the earth. The byproducts like slag is another problem. Activism can draw attention to these problems. But you need concrete solutions and investment in long-term research to bring out real lasting solutions. Ladakh is less fertile than Kashmir mostly because much of the water is brackish. It’s essentially a desert valley surrounded by mountains, not unlike Afghanistan. But because of the mountains, it’s mineral rich. This is one thing you need to work with.

Even big tree at footpath is concrete sealed. 3.People most of them don't want tree in front of their house, because tree will hide their building beauty 4. People construct full site house, no garden plants at home 5. Government doesn't want to leave space in footpath for tree, instead they park cars at all footpath.

  • I'm from BENGALURU but now live in England for 10 years. I've seen water depleting in BENGALURU. Primary cause is greediness and not following building codes. In England, homes are built with mandatory garden area that is 55% of the plot. No home is allowed to have borewell, only supply from water company is allowed. If there is no rain for 6 to 8 weeks, government will declare drought which means no watering in garden or washing vehicles. None if this is followed in India. In a 60x40 plot, people build small apartment complex with 10 houses, where will the water come from? There were more than 80 lakes, but now less than 10! It is good that this is happening in BENGALURU, let people suffer for few years. Only then people will wake up atleast now and start conserving water.

The very necessary and urgent act is to have strict policies , with consequences. Today Pune is converting into concrete jungle, none of the builders are concerned about the issue is water table, nor the government. Making rain water harvesting mandatory is the first utmost important task. Secondly, creating artificial ponds throughout the city. And tree plantation are the requirement of the hour.

As long as the builders take shortcut of not installing water meters to save on plumbing costs this will happen always. Enforcement agencies must come hard at installing water meters in each and every house and flat and see the magic within a year.

I remember I had to use warm water for bathing but now, things have suddenly changed after failed monsoons. Really worrind about where we as humans are heading to. As of now we dont have any water problem due to borewell but i had seen digging and heavy mining machines on roads itself for getting water out. This summer is going to be troublesome. Till we get monsoon rains, we have to find solutions and think about mother nature, keeping our greed aside(in any form). I hope we learn a lesson from this situation.

Will govt actually address middle-class people's issues? I don't mind if a minister is 10th fail or uneducated if he/she is good then they should be elected. But it's hard to find one. If you can't do it big atleast direct the terrace water into your ground water borewells. All it takes is some pipe and filters. It makes a world of difference over 5-10 years if everyone does it. Current rainwater harvesting plans don't keep this in mind, and can affect the cleanliness of the recharged water. It can lead to ground water contamination, leaving it unpotable.

Tourism is the only way they earn, and that also during seasons. To facilitate tourism huge infra projects are underway in Himachal, Uttarakhand and Ladakh region, which will of course tamper with natural environment. And it's not a new issue there, it has been like that for years. Same is in Northeast sector also..... But atleast these project facilitates in generating better revenue for them. Better road access, more demand of Hotel chains and stays, more tourists, and which needs more power, electrical power which will not only help generating revenue but also good education too.....

  • There has been massive increase in the population here. People all over india come and settle here permanently due to good weather good institutions and work place like it companies etc . There is so much unoccupied land in the country . The governments should start expanding the urbanisation everywhere instead of concentrating only in one area. There is so much land in Goa Mysore and other places . Population in Bangalore is saturated. Being a Bangalorean it is disheartening to see the drastic change from a garden city when we were in school to a Barren city

    • @@plant9839 well everybody did their part about kaveri in their term, everyone if you remember diligently. The Supreme Court verdict is final and nobody can go against or Speak or act against, The Supreme Court orders, if they go or speak or act against it, it will be Contempt Of Court and then Court could take any action, it could be beyond our limited imagination. The Supreme Court is guardian of constitution, going against it's order, it would be like going against our constitution, everyone should thereby follow and respect the court's ruling... (And I wasn't aware about, what Ex-CM Bangarappa sir had took stand about, thanks for bringing it to my attention, that allowed me to read. In 1991, Bangarappa sir's Government made, Karnataka-Cauvery Basin Irrigation Protection Ordinance. But, later Supreme Court marked it "unconstitutional" itseems. And yes I pretty much remember, during BJP also when court had ordered to release water and they released less quantity that day, the Supreme Court Intertwined and the order was fully followed)

  • At Bangalore, we used to have tanker water and every drop was used to the full. We used to reuse RO outlet water to wipe house floor, water plants and washing clothes. After moving to kerala, although currently there is no water scarcity on my place, this habit just stuck with us and we consciously reuse ro water, water used to was rice and vegetables, and sometimes i rinse vessels in bucketful of water and use that to water plants. Really want to reuse water from washing machine to water plants etc, planning to have a small drainage system done to divert the water from back yard to front yard...
