  • It’s great that they included the names of the others who passed. Obviously Kobe and Gigi were more well known, but everybody matters. All of those lives that were lost, mattered, and we should never forget their names.

I told her, “keep balling girl you’re next up!” and she had a sweet smile that looked exactly like her dad’s. I was heartbroken when the news happened and it hurt more when I heard Gigi was in the crash too

    • As a huge Kobe fan, you hit the nail on the head by describing him as Superman. He was Superman to Lakers fans and the basketball world because he did the impossible on the court and made it look so easy, yet we knew he worked ten times harder at it than anyone else. He was bigger than life, and the fact that nine people died on their way to a youth sporting event made everyone be able to relate to the tragedy - parents, coaches, kids - whether they were fans of Kobe or not. I can’t imagine anything else ever hitting the people of Southern California any harder than this. I live in Orange County in the vicinity of where all the victims lived, worked, and played basketball, and they is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about Kobe and Gigi, and Vanessa and her girls. It’s still really hard to think about and brings me great sadness when I watch clips of Kobe playing and coaching daughter. The only other single event that this can compare to in the scope of how someone’s life or death impacted Southern California was when Magic Johnson announced he was HIV positive and when Michael Jackson died. People adored Magic as much as Kobe, and we all thought he was going to die from AIDS. I’m so glad Magic has survived and thrived. I can image what it would be like for Lakers fans to have lost both of their marquee athletes.

    • @@nickgray6305cause you were there that day and witnessed Kobe holding a weapon to the pilot forcing him to fly against his will, right? The pilot never made the statement he was forced. You’re just trying to make statements to feel relevant. Kobe wouldn’t risk his child nor anyone else on the flight. For what? A game being held in his own stadium? One that he could postpone if need be? You talk about karma, but your here making statements out of the side of your mouth. Wonder what karma has in store for you.

You could still see evidences of charring every though the city has cleaned up the remnants very well. • I lived in Thousand Oaks at that time and it was very foggy the day of the crash. Malibu is right on the other side of those mountains so it’s common to get a marine layer. It’s very typical to seen dense fog in that open area where the crash happened. It hovers in that pocket but the 101 freeway is clears up before those mountains do. Also, the Mumba sports complex was a great place for kids. They opened their doors to students when we had the Woosley fire and had to evacuate. Schools were closed. They provided lunch, camp activities, indoor beach volleyball, gaming, you name it and they had it! I didn’t know much about Kobe but once I heard that Mumba was his facility it hit different.

  • Crashes occur bc of 1 of 2 reasons; pilot error or major malfunction, or both. The pilot was flying VFR(visual flight rules) so that he wouldn't have to file a flight plan and for other reasons of expediency. However, he asked for special permission to fly basically IFR(instrument flight rules) bc of the intense fog. This put him in several holding patterns at the request of the other airports, and the airspace he was entering which was very busy. He unfortunately became disoriented very quickly. It came out that the pilot nor the company was licensed to fly that chopper using IFR. Pilot error.
