My Portasol Pro 125 arrived I bought 2 one to solder and one for heat shrink. A great tool it heats up fast and easy to use.
If you want the snap on, just buy a Portasol Pro 125 with all the bits, same iron made in ireland. very good for car work (i have one)

Weller made a dual range soldering gun that has 250 to 325 watts. I absolutely love that gun, however it is only to be used for soldering wires and connectors and not for electronics.

thanks for the video comparing the 2, but the for what your doing you wouldn't use cordless soldering irons. you would have a static free temperature controlled solder station. this would give you a lighter iron for better control. the cordless irons are for use in the field ideally on non electrical components (wires and terminals). for example i used my portasol to solder a replacement bulb holder onto a car , and then used the side flame exit to put on the heat shrink. a tip to help you get better joint, dont use extra flux as solder has it in it, use a fine tip, heat the pin first, then touch the solder onto the pin and the solder will flow onto it. your touching the pin and the solder at once, so the solder will melt before the pin has heated fully.

Great Video! I have the same butane iron! Works great but unfortunately I can use it at work,due to open fuel cells (aircraft electrician). So I got to get a electric one such as the Milwaukee.

@@TheRenaissanceBuilder when I Chased sparks for the army on Helicopters, our toolbox’s had a Weller battery powered one. It was ok... but My butane iron (snap-on),never failed me. Mostly soldered switches and stuff and worked great for shrinking those Raychem enviro splices! But A co-worker has the Milwaukee,I tried it. I do like it,it is a lil bulky but I can deal with it!
For me the gas soldering irons are the best, one is a Black and Decker (really old) and takes Thermacell cartridges and the other is an Antex Gascat 40 (40w) refillable. Both are fantastic for flexibility, but the Gascat is a breeze for electronics (as are all Antex irons) its so light, uses a catalyst so only the tip gets hot, and you hold it just like a marker pen (it’s about the same width as a large highlighter pen or marker). If you can get one in America, I’d recommend it very highly, I believe it is made by Portasol (in Ireland) so it may be sold under their branding rather than Antex (who make excellent small mains irons).

also, the snap-on wont have temperature control as you state, it will be more a power control. as you start to solder the tip will cool. if you doing jobs that need temp control them use a solder station that will allow you to set the tip temp and it will maintain it no matter how much heat you are drawing from the tip.
Compared to the Milwaukee, the snap on has a world of control

@@guyrandom6151 i just searched silicone project mat (im not a great speller) on amazon and the blue one was the second choice. The silicone is heat resistant so it works well for soldering projects. If you remember Tandy, you might remember Allied. I think originally Tandy Radio Shack was an outlet for Allied's surplus stuff. I think Allied is still around but they are pretty industrial suppliers. I haven't bought anything lately but DigiKey was my go to for a while. Bernstein Appleby was big back in my day. I'm pretty sure they are gone. Then there was Team Electionics. We had a store. They also sold components. Amazon and eBay have pretty much taken over. I really miss the days when you could just go to your local stores and pick up a resistor, or a cap or IC. Man those were the days. Just found your channel. I'll be watching you. Thanks for doing your videos. I know it takes time and money.

In fack i have an electronics manual i was going to use to produce a learning electronics podcast with. @@TheRenaissanceBuilder I ran across your channel while searching for reviews on cordless soldering irons. But, you are interesting to watch and you seem to know what you are doing. I have been researching the Berkling BSG-568 butane soldering iron. It has a heat gun attachment that I want to use in marine application. Working on boats always presents difficulty. I want to use this on Solder Seal butt connectors. I just wondered if you are familiar with these soldering iron/heat gun products. It gets great reviews. But, with all Amazon reviews, they sometimes have to be taken with a grain of salt. Thanks for your time and keep the videos coming.
Your butane iron must have a really good temp control on it, cause I've had 3 over my time and none of them are able to make a difference between half and full. Like most gas items, a flame is a flame, it basically stays the same temp, just changes how quickly it can get there. I prefer electric, as most of the environments I use them in are out in farms and open areas, where if you get a bit of wind up, the gas struggles to heat properly, they become useless. But, I do keep mu butane one around for the sheer convenience of the heat gun tip, which is always handy.
I love to hear about others experiences. I am happy with this iron, its a snap on unit but is made by another company. The adjustment is not fine but generally works. All the way up is to hot and burns the tips, medium is about perfect general soldering and low is good for tiny electronics. Im working on a battery version that is better than anything I’ve found yet right now. Thank you for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it!

My gas unit is made by Cabac, I'm not sure if you guys have that over there but here in Australia they are a big electrical wholesaler. I've had 2 Wurth torches (both had faulty ignitors) and currently 2 Cabac and about to purchase the Milwaukee for a trial. Cheers buddy👍

I would like to disagree on the filling time of the butane, you can fill them in like 10 secs. no different to filling a lighter. i would say you can fill it just a quick as changing a battery.

It Should Be Made Like The Milwaukee Just Slap A Rechargeable Battery In It & Go To Work. I Have A Weller 3900 Soldering Handle I Can Screw Replacement Heating Elements. If I Wanted To I Could Put In A 23v40 45 or 50 Watt Heater Element In It.

Night Fury you like that title huh 🤣 Both units are very temperature consistent once there up to heat, however when being used heavy the butane one holds temp better. The butane is also adjustable with a flame control knob versus battery is just on or off

Night Fury ok so a hot air station with temp control is way better, but for in the field mobile applications the butane unit works beautifully

Most people, including myself, have a short attention span which means that unless the video gets to the point I won't watch it. At almost 30mins long it has to be on point from the beginning, I only have a few mins to watch videos in my break times etc. .. hope this helps.
