It has long been claimed that the DPRK propaganda machine doctored footage to show North Koreans that they had won either the 2010 or 2014 FIFA World Cups, or both.
It's one of a number of sensational football-related claims to have been made about North Korea, Kim Jong Un, and the ruling Workers' Party, but does the evidence back up these pretty outrageous reports?
In this video, HITC Sevens takes a deep dive into the misinformation surrounding North Korean football, attempting to sort the fact from the fiction, and analysing football in the secretive state more broadly.
The 2014 video was a prank made by the brazilian youtuber 'Cid Cidoso'. The source material is in a fake channel, created for this prank, called "Korea News Backup ", and in the last video he explains everything. He even received a letter from the PRK embassy saying something on the lines that (and I paraphrase here) 'the international repercussion of this prank is a further demonstration that the western media is a joke"

This was thanks to decades of propaganda by the US Agency for Global Media (formerly known as the Broadcasting Board of Governors) and its tentacle Radio Free Asia. They have for decades been the primary source of literally all of these racist fake news about Korea, initially with some care taken to mask the truth (such as paying children who have never even stepped foot on Korean soil to make false statements about it). But then they realized that they didn't need that and could make up any absurd lie that all the mainstream media would replicate without checking anything (some of the most recurrent ones were saying that North Korea executed some famous person for a futile reason, and then this same person would appear publicly and they wouldn't even publish a retraction note). In case Google is censoring the link, I will post the article on this in the next comment, the original website has been censored but you can still read it via the webarchive.
Glad that there's still great journalism out there. I'm so sick of mainstream media trying to falsifying evidence or using anecdotal evidence to present their news from both sides. And with Alfie here I still have hope for journalism integrity.

You should have mentioned that North Korea's national team had a Norwegian manager a couple of years ago. Even though he didn't do very well, he is still very much alive, and has given many interviews about it, describing everything as completely normal.
Of course he's alive cause even North Korea knows it's fucking stupid to risk getting nuked over the treatment of a fucking football manager of a foreign origin at his job. Even this feels stupid to write.
And to think that said manager - Jørn Andersen - would later manage Incheon United to the south, and eventually led Hong Kong to its first AFC Asian Cup in 55 years... If anything, he must've learnt a thing or two during his North Korean tenure.

Good video Alfie It hits the nail on the head about the general Western propensity for gobbling up half truths and mistruths about places that they want to dislike. North Korea is bad enough as is, there’s no reason to embellish a terrible situation As someone that’s lived a lot in the Gulf, I feel like there’s a strong western appetite for the same sort of stuff against a lot of Gulf countries. They are, by no means, perfect places, but there’s no reason to lessen the reality of the actual bad stuff that goes on, like the repression of LGBT people and quite poor conditions for migrant labourers, by drumming up stories about league matches being played under threats of execution, or wild claims of people being rounded up and shot. It also takes away from the inhumanity of it in places where it actually did happen, like Saddam’s Iraq
When Qatar arrested those Western journalists, it was clear to me, that they must have broken a law since Qatar is having such anyway. Seems like I was right. They were trespassing. Not a big crime/misdemeanor but not nothing. They were probably housed in the most comfortable jail in the world. @@rotua98 i think he already said the main reason in some other video. In most of those countries, their huge population isnt equal to the size of professional athlete population pool. Hence, even if they have more fans, more market, more budget...the amount of player that the national team can choose is still very limited. Most of those fans just watch the games and play amateurly, not many of them want to play professionally. So not many of them train seriously, their skill become very raw, and the same can be said for the professional one. They become complacent and dont have any greed to become better, because by their perspective, they are already good enough compared to most other people and have a long career with their raw skill, so why bother to become better? They dont want to go to foreign country, dont want to develop their skill & tactical awareness, just by their raw skill they dont have any competition already. Very little local players debut each year, so the old ones can always feel secure because they literally become irreplaceable even if they dont develop new skill, their experience is more than enough to get the place in starting line up..so why bother to become better? Compare it to some "small" countries in Europe. Even if their population is very small, but the amount of professional football player is high. Every small (compared by area) countries in EU have their own top league, each of those have 20 clubs, so they need to have atleast 200-400 pro players for each small area. The must literally search for every nook and cranny just to have a bit of a talent and develop every potential to be the best. In some big populated countries, this just doesn't happen. They are big, their population is huge, so why bother searching & developing? The have more than enough people that want to play, theres no need to burn your money for them....that happen for 30-40 years and you get what you see now. Some small countries like Nederland & Swiss has better player & league than Indonesia & India.
Here's the thing: North Korea are Normally shit at football. They don't have the money to fund a proper team. All that money has gone into building ghost buildings almost no one will inhabit.
