The Wizard's biggest mistake was trying to choose a person who was pure of heart. Billy actually tells him that this is impossible. No-one is pure, no-one is 100% good. You simply find people who are close and hope they rise to the challenge.

I think Billy was worthy because when then Wizard said he chose Billy as champion, Billy didn’t feel he deserved it. He turned down power, which shows that it wouldnt corrupt him like it did with Sivana or Black Atom

I think Billy was comparatively more mature than most of the other candidates. He understood that nobody’s perfect, and that no one can really be the wizard’d champion. However, through his growth in the movie, we see him embrace his faults and overcoming it.
@@nanq.5689 He even argued about it in the comics which I really liked. He saw the world's true nature and saw wisdom in Billy which is why Billy is worthy of power.

That's because Shazam has really similar powers to Superman, let me explain. Superman creates a sort of field around his body (probably at cellular level) that he can extend to other objects, allowing him, to give an example, to grab a falling plane from its nose without breaking it. Assuming that Shazam has that same ability, he extended the same field not only to the glass, but the bus
@@jorgegomezespinosa8192 I had the same feelings about the glass window at first. But you bring up a good point. It's just like Superman's suit. It's indestructible so long as he is wearing it.
My favorite part is how Freddy says most people wish to be invisible. Later he tells Billy he is invisible to him and everyone else when Billy let's him down. I think Freddy subconsciously makes his invisibility a sorta power to not feel powerless. Then when he gets the Shazam powers he instantly flies. Showing he is actually powerful if they see him for who he really is.

It’s a little weird that they released Shazam in the spring when it’s a cristmas movie.
It’s not a Christmas movie per se, because it’s main focus isn’t Christmas, but that it just so happens to be set at Christmas time.
Batman Returns was released in June and it was set at Christmas.
And Aquaman was released in Christmas but wasn't set around it

Hearing a Queen song in a superhero movie is something I never thought I needed in my life until now.
I saw this the day it came out and it exceeded my expectations. My favorite scene was when Billy walks into a store in full costume and asks where the beer was. Can't wait for the Black Adam solo movie and Shazam 2! The best way to describe this movie is "Superman meets Big".
I think Captain Sparkle Fingers is a reference to Thor Ragnarok when the Grandmaster tells Thor he didn't see any lightning but he did see some sparkles coming out of his fingers.

Black Adam was actually the first champion. He just used the powers for evil deeds, like using them to kill evil people. But he also defrated the 5 wizards.

In fact, Marvel was so jealous of the Shazam success that they decided to use the name Captain Marvel name for themselves. The Captain Marvel comics didn't became popular. In the next coming decades after 1972, especially during the 90's the Shazam comics slowed down but it maintained its relevancy. Captain Marvel was never a hard hitter in Marvel but in the 2000s, it gained traction.

I think Billy Batson would have given into the eye of sin. I think the idea is that the council thought they found the perfect champion, but he wasn't perfect and he betrayed them. So they spent however many years looking for someone completely flawless, completely perfect, but the thing is... the perfect person doesn't exist! And they never will. Nobody is perfect and no life is perfect but you can't worry about that and you just have to work with what you got. I think it's a great message for the film considering Billy's flawed family life, Freddy's disability, and Dr. Sivanas rich but abusive family. It's not about what you have, it's about what you do with it.

Well Billy didn’t get tested at first because the eye was already gone, at the end when he takes it away from Doctor Sivana he starts to hear the whispers and gets tempted, but just shrugs it off and makes a joke lol thus proving his worthiness because technically he did get tempted, I just think he was strengthened by his experiences in this movie that made it easier to deny the eye of sin, cause damn he just saw what it could cause lol

I think even if there were the 7 deadly sins he would have been able to resist them because when the wizard tells him he is the champion he tries to tell the wizard that he is not worth instead of going straight for the staff like dr. Savanna did when he was young showing he is not power hungry. So yeah

Multiple names for shazam on KZhead: Captain thunder is Shazam in flashpoint storyline.
For me, either one of them could take the mantle of Shazam and the mantle of the carrier of the 7 sins.
Shazam chooses Billy because he's willing to admit that he's not perfect and pure of heart.
I don’t think the wizard would have chose anyone different. i feel like his sentence “Any pure good hearted people? i don’t think those exist anymore...” It reminded him of something that gave him hope. you could see it in his face
I don't believe that the wizard Shazam chose Billy merely out of desperation. I think he saw the purity in Billy that, despite his faults, would allow him to become a good champion and a genuine hero. The Seven Deadly Sins had made their escape with Sivana, but if the wizard had just "settled" for the next candidate who came along, he could be just throwing more fuel on the fire or worse, creating a second Black Adam. And note at what point the wizard selected Billy. It was only after he stood up for his foster brother Freddy by taking on two bullies who had him outclassed in terms of size and strength alone. Had Billy walked away and left Freddy to take a beating, I doubt the wizard would want anything to do with him. But since Billy behaved like a hero in that moment, stepping in to help the defenseless Freddy, that could well be what alerted the wizard to Billy Batson as the best candidate to become the champion of Shazam. Remember that the wizard didn't say, "I call upon you" or even "I settle for you". He said, "I choose you." True, it would have been better if he had found Billy sooner, before Sivana freed the 7 Sins, but better late than never. To make a short story long--No, Billy would never be tempted by the Eye of Sin. It goes against all that he is.
I think that billy could resist the eye of sins like he did in the end while sivana fell for the eye of sins, you could say because he was shazam he resisted it but I don't think that's what happend
They both had parents who didn't want them, so they (in theory) could have both been susceptible to the eye of sin. They were mirrors of one another right up until the choice was taken from Billy. I have a feeling that will play out more in Shazam 2.
When Sivana gets cut by the Batarang I thought about the quote Batman says to Superman in BVS "Can you bleed?" Batman in that scene was holding a Kryptonite spear to Superman and cut his cheek to reveal that he isn't invulnerable and can be beat. Same in this scene with Shazam.

To answer your question, I think Billy actually answered wether he would have been tempted by the eye or not when he defeated Sivanna. And as for Sivanna, he would have been the same bullied boy and most probably would have killed his dad and brother if they ever crossed Sivanna.

It’s really important that Billy didn’t want the powers. Humility is something that you loose as soon as you realize you have it. The fact that he didn’t think he was worthy is a good indicator that he was just that.
