  • Yammie, I have some knowledge of the Chinese motorcycle industry and the bike you purchased is colloquially known as a "地平线" or "Horizon" in China. The name refers to a wide range of extremely cheap "sporty" bikes in China with typically Ninja 300 styling and a single- or twin-cyclinder air-cooled SOHC engine produced by a small number of fly-by-night factories and rebadged under dozens of manufacturer names. These things can barely be called motorcycles and almost all are not road legal in China.

I had nothing to compare it to. Good guys. Decent customer service. I got everything for like 3k n some change. You are correct..it is exciting for all the wrong reasons that's in a nutshell. Since I was a beginner, I thought well hell I guess this is what it's like to get into motorcycles" i got 500 miles on the little homie before that engine blew apart. Goodtimes. I don't regret it though. I learned a lot. Mine was even carburetored hahaa! Almost turned me all the way off as far as riding, but it didn't. It was definitely a learning experience. I don't regret it . I've since purchased a gixxr600 and 2012 gixxr750. I'm passionate about riding. I'll never forget my little whungwhang 250cc 16 hp 5 speed carburetored superperformance venom ! Back in the day before "influencers" became companies main marketing strategy you could trust reviews on youtube (for the most part)...but over the years with a whole host of products...when you see 20+ channels doing a review on the same product...at the same time...all saying ridiculously positive things about said product...and no negatives...we all kinda caught on that it was a sham, and not to trust youtube reviews anymore (or the channels that do them that way). • My 250 (similar to the Hawk) only lasted about 11k miles. If you have the 17/45 gearing on it they will do 72 mph (GPS), otherwise its stock gearing was 15/56 which apparently will do 62 mph because mine didn't seem to have a rev limiter, however that may be why my connecting rod bearing is decided to hit the eject button... I didn't run it super long on its stock gearing, about 10.5k of its miles were with it geared up so it wasn't having to rev as high. Just cheap engines though, nothing reliable like a Kawasaki (my grandfather's 90cc Kawasaki G3 would run just as fast, and that bike from the 70's is in much better shape than my duel sport, I might start using that one instead)

Had I been able to find a used Japanese Dual Sport I would've bought one but I couldn't so I went the Chinese route and while I knew what I was getting I was actually impressed with how well it worked as a commuter and the light off-road that I've done and don't regret buying it one bit.

    • A friend of mine bought one of those CSC 250 ADV bikes and rode it for like 25k miles without any problems. Slow as hell, but wasn't bad for what he paid for it. It even came with semi-decent hard luggage which I think he actually kept after he sold it and transferred it to his next bike because it used the same mounting points as Givi luggage.

    • Mine was similar, but it only made it 11k miles before the connecting rod bearing went out (234cc). Rather unimpressive, but it would run 72 mph with a gearing change at least. It vibrated so much that I was always changing bulbs or resoldering wiring though...

    • I've enjoyed my Hawk 250 EFI dual sport around town in Austin. The gearing has been changed but I only hop on the highway for short distances. I bought it from a guy who is a mechanic and he went over every bolt on the bike when he got it and marked them all with a magic marker so he could tell if they were backing out. I do wonder what experience Yammie would have had with this bike on the first ride if he'd gone over everything first. I don't think that's unreasonable for these bikes that are coming in crates; I wouldn't feel comfortable taking it out on a ride without a solid once over first. Also, I get Yammie's style with videos like these, but I really would value his opinion on a cheap entry level bike like this that compared it to a reasonable baseline and without the baggage of a s***** company that was looking to buy a review.

    • @@devontitterington6418 Sad part is the MOST you'll get with a full race exhaust and your mods is like 20 HP, while if you took 1/4 of a suzuki engine (so its also 1 cylinder 250cc), you'd be making 50 HP. The Chinese engines just do not perform anywhere near the level of the Japanese engines. Example was for a 199 HP 999cc inline 4 (or 4x 250cc cylinders at 50 HP each)

  • I own a Brixton BX125R which is a cheap, Chinesium bike. I can say with confidence that what you are experiencing is about right for this type of bike. Now, the only other bike I have been on was a Honda CB650 which I passed my test on so my experience is quite limited. I bought my bike with just over 3000 miles on it. I have put almost 5500 miles on it since I bought it and the amount of maintenance I have had to do on it has been absurd! I had to replace the front and rear sprocket shortly after buying as they were worn. I had to buy a chain as that became so worn that it nicked the rear tyre and took a chunk out of the side wall. Two new tyres for the previous reason and that they were so squared off from factory that it made going around corners quite scary. Rear wheel bearings as the cheep Chinesium once started to seize as they got warm. I had to rebuild the rear wheel due to the spokes being made of pig iron and were snapping as I rode the bike. Had to rebuild the fork bearing as the factory did not apply enough grease to the bearings and the steering became quite notchy (similar to what you were feeling by the sounds of it). And lastly, the only recurring problem that I have not been able to fix has been the chain will just become slack for no reason. All adjustments have stayed the same as I was marking my adjustments to see if anything was coming loose and they were not. However, I have noticed that if I rotate the rear wheel the chain will go tight, then loose and so on. Oh, and to make the bike feel a little peppier I fitted a larger rear sprocket when I got a new one. TLDR Chinese bikes are shit...

  • Glad you called them out on this. I have studied Chinese culture and history for some time. Scamming people is literally built into their culture. They call it "bamboozling," but it is straight up scamming. An example? A Chinese peasant was squatting on a piece of government land in a shanty made of giant vinyl signs and some bamboo. The government came and told him and the other people who were living there that they would have to leave soon because they were going to build something on that land. So the guy sold his shanty to another peasant and left. The producer who was following his story asked him if that was dishonest. His response was, "I sold him the 'building,' not the land. If the government comes and tears it down, how is that my fault?" And, just a heads up to everyone. If you are buying anything online that comes directly from China, and it has great reviews, pretty much all of the companies do the same thing; they offer people a free sample if they write a positive review. This happens ALL THE TIME on Amazon. Also, they will add positive reviews from other products to the one you are looking at. DO NOT TRUST ANYTHING FROM CHINA. Finally, remember that the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) partially owns every company employing 50 or more people. So when you support Chinese companies, you are also supporting the CCP (which wants to take out the US). Peace.

"bike companies" that build one batch of alibaba bikes, sell them then shut down and re-open under a different name making the same alibaba bike is the norm in the chinese e-bike industry. My grandfather's 90cc from the 70's will run 70 mph with a full size adult (the same as my 250cc duel sport Chinesium that's similar to the Hawk 250), but unlike my bike which its connecting rod bearing went out within 11k miles, that Kawi will be purring along for 3 or possibly even 4 generations (also a great bike for little kids, its very small, but much lighter than the Grom with a higher top speed) The frame was the weakest part on my bike, so a lot of it has been replaced, that and the sprocket pins were always sheering... and the electrical wires needed soldering all the time (as well as replacing bulbs) because the engine vibrated so bad. Those are the constant issues of Chinese bikes, the rest such as suspension (mine was actually pretty good, you could roll over hay bales or play around off-road decently), that's all up to luck. The wheels won't be perfectly tuned, but you can fix that yourself, its just a LOT of maintenance because nothing is built correctly by the Chinese kids assembling them. • Thanks for doing this, Yam. You just saved someone else from wasting three grand that could have bought a nice used Japanese bike instead. Having ridden well-made motorcycles for all your life. Finding yourself on a terrifyingly poorly constructed motorcycle must be a sobering experience. I kind of expect Yammie corp to resurrect this 'bike' from it's own assembly and maybe give it a new life as a 'could have been' idea. This really does show that you get what you know about...not what you pay for. It's the number one reason I never take chances on machines I buy. I wait for others to buy them and see what kind of history they have with them. If someone gave this thing to me, I would immediately change all the fluids to western manufactured fluids, (brake, engine oil, gas) and I would try to run no ethanol gas in it if I could find it. I would also consider immediately ditching those Chinese tires. Cheap Chinese tires (for any machine) are the worst quality in the world. Had you just tried to 'run in' those terribly sticking front brakes you would have burned up the pads, scorched the disc faces and most importantly, maybe heat damaged the calipers. It would have boiled the brake fluid too which would have made just horrible mushy brakes for the rest of the time you rode it until you replaced the fluid, the pads and maybe even the calipers. I would look into getting that return cable for the carburetor. Not a fan of sticking carb cables. The ultra tight steering head bolt is also bad because super over torquing these bolts can actually dent the races, the bearings sit in, as well as flatten the bearings, if they are cheap, making the steering notchy. I'm glad you found that. Another thing I would say though, is that this BOOM bike and the CF Bikes from a completely different Chinese manufacturer look to have ZERO in common. That CF bike line seems to be a very well-made bike. So, there is a super wide range to Chinese bikes and Yammie simply found himself the victim of the lowest form of Chinese bike here. I would definitely keep this thing in house as a parts beater, if you even trusted it that far. Don't let this thing hurt you, Yam and Thank you for not letting someone control your First Amendment right to tell the Truth, Yammie. It matters.

    • It should be noted that changing the fluids upon getting one is something you're supposed to do (no matter which manufacturer). That's true of name-brand bikes, too, though dealers are the ones that do so in such cases. The oil that's in them is meant more to keep seawater-air and associated corrosion at bay during pre-shipping storage and shipment than it is to lubricate the engine. Less so for brake fluid, but that's still a good line-item to change. Also Loc-tite is your friend. Lots of loctite.... As for the quality range? yeah there's a pretty wide margin. Hawks are cheap but so common that the community around them makes up for the shortfalls, ditto Magicians. Lifans are just straight up reliable in most cases provided you change out the shipping oil and break them in (their engines are a common swap out option for some Hondas because hey 125cc fits a Super Cub....).

Things like checking the chain, steering head, tire pressures, proper cable slack, etc. are things a professional mechanic would do before letting a bike go to a customer or worse, giving a review. And before giving a review, one should bed in the brakes properly, give the engine time to break in a bit, and after that give the bike a once over. Come on..... You are a tongue in cheek type of guy, don't pretend to be an expert, especially in mechanical issues...cause you are not, let's face it you can't even remove the windshield from the packaging without scratching it. Although you are correct in getting decent tires on the bike, oh yeah make sure you have the correct pressure.

  • You need to run the engine in then make a judgement on the engine, also when the new brakes bed in

  • It's almost offensive that they would think someone with your presence and following on youtube, would be willing to lie to your followers and give that bike a positive review. The only positive thing you could say is that you purchased the bike so none of your followers ever will.

  • a year or so ago i was thinking of getting one of their bikes. There was little reviews on it but the ones that were there were too postive about the bike that it put me off them now i know they were obligated to. glad i never went through with it.

  • Please do a Review on Taro GP bikes. They go with different engine sizes but have the same body and chassis. In the UK, they call it "Lexmoto" in other regions it's known as Mitt. In south America, it's "Asya speed"

  • This looks, sounds and looks to ride exactly like my ninja 250 fi. Kawasaki offered it in the UK with a 250cc before the 300cc came out.

  • I bought an XPRO Titan 250dlx for $1500 2 years ago. Threw some Shinko 705s on it, rejetted the carb and a different rear sprocket. It’s great for motoring around town. It’s still running strong. Any serious ridings done on my Ninja400

  • Shows what I know, when you were walking with it and we weren't looking very close, it looked really nice to me. Granted I'd never want to ride it or own it, but I wouldn't be mad if a neighbour had one of these, just for the view.

  • Considering what you can buy second hand for $3k-$3.5K, I'd much MUCH rather go that route. Maybe the speedo is measuring KPH but showing MPH? It kinda lines up as 40mph is roughly 65kph Who knows...

  • You can only shift gears when not accelerating. No flat shifting. Throttle is loose when you let go. Do you require a drawing?

  • 6:23 I think it means don't shift while your on the gas. Let off the throttle before you shift

  • when it comes to the brakes you need to loosen the forks hold the front brakes then tighten up your forks again then let go of the brakes or they will be tight.
