I love mine! Something about a goth looking bat wing plant with a flower that smells like feet that just warms my cold, dead heart.
Lmao! That's the best description ever! You're not fooling me, that heart is anything but, "cold" 😃🤗
Depends on the situation 😂
There's an actual batwing plant
Hi.. my name is Linda, and i'm about to transplant my Purple Passion into a lil bigger pot, i just need to know if i should do that. I think i got rid of all the bugs, now my plant needs come tlc. I have 3 plants and they are bout 4" tall from all dirt. Can i put 2 plants in 1 pot? And i like to use Miracle-gro.. thank you
The description 😂
I was doing some research on this gorgeous cutting that I got. I was shocked that you said they only live a short time! The cutting I received was from a woman who's had the same one for 35 years!
I've had more for around 10 years. I adore that it has become such a climbing vine and filled my entire window! It climbs outside the window during the summer and I have to reign her in during the winter. Just learning about propagating and cutting her back now.
They seem to do well as a hanging pot where they can vine down towards the floor. Also if you watch the leaves, they may tell you the watering schedule. The leaves will visibly droop when the plant needs to be watered. (Of the common houseplants, this one seems the most expressive in this regard. Other plants will have leaves dry up before they give other clues to that.)
I remember this plant from my hippie high school days. It took years to find this plant again. I now have two. They are among my favorite. I’m amazed how awesome plants from my youth are making a comeback😊
I would normally NEVER watch a 15 min video on a plant but this was so inviting AND informative! I just bought one today because it was so beautiful and you just provided some GREAT info! Thanks!
I just got mine and the cat hair immediately got on it. I love that you included that detail!! 😂
I had mine maybe 8 years..... should I say offspring from the original for years.....the main plant hung down towards the floor, it drops base leaves as it gets longer.....so I added new cuttings at the top to fill it in....repotting was a handfull...but it always came back easily....sold it at a garage sale when it got too big needed room for new plants, but I always think fondly of this beautiful plant. Thanks jeff.
Sounds beautiful!
The planter and rocks look fabulous with that plant 💚💜
Thank you! I'm always a sucker for color! 🤣😂
Thank you for keeping it simple and not talking over our heads! This video was very helpful to me and made me not as scared to propagate or transplant it. I was terrified of messing with this plant until I watched you lol
Thank you! They're pretty sturdy plants and im so glad you have one to enjoy!
@@TropicalPlantParty instead of one plant of 3 stalks that looked unhealthy, now i have 5 baby plants that look so healthy and I can't wait to see them grow! Thank you!
I love this plant, it always tells me when it needs water!
A family friend, who finally admitted to his wife that he has to give up his green house and plants within, called me to come over and grab what plants I wanted. I am helping to keep his plant collection alive while they find some nursery to 'adopt' them. This amethyst jewel was among the treasures that I took home. This video is very helpful and I am so glad for the information.
I bought a very sad looking one from Walmart for $5 Best out of the bunch, of all the plants. First thing gave her water in car on way home. Second, used superthrive, third used fertilizer. She's way way better than she was. It's only been 2 weeks. We'll see what I can do 💚💚
Walmart plant clearance is the best! I bought an expensive Orchid for $7, only because the blooms were spent. It is thriving and ready to bloom again after a few months.
You are my favorite!! Straight to the point and just giving me the information I’m looking for without wasting my time. Pure helpful information to help me grow beautiful plants!
"I hope you can see how pretty my green pot is." hahahha its very pretty! Doesn't look yellow at all :)
So rare to talk about how many years a plant can live. Usually they're so long lived no one mentions! This is def a pretty lil guy
True! Only time I ever mention lilfespan is when something is very long lived.
I just bought one today as my first indoor plant (and first plant, ever) and your video was very, very helpful! Thank you and I hope mine makes it to that fabled 8-9 year mark on your advice.
I give my plant aloe Vera. It pops to life and glows. I cut fresh aloe and blend with water then add water to the rest of blender to dilute. Then I strain the aloe water and put in the pot. Happy happy plant!
Omg. But You’ve gotta see it grow in full sun!!! It’s magnificent...(just needs lots of water). 😂
When we hit triple digits they just die on me outside if I don't remember to move them into dark shade. I could try, but I know I'll forget to move em when it gets extra hot. 🤣😂
Another plant for my list ...what a surprise...so beautiful!
I had one of these in college and killed it with overwatering. So sad! Only today, seven years later, did I finally see one in the store and buy it. (Her name is Artemis II) Wanted to make sure to take better care of it this time, so thank you for this!
I have lime green pot with another plant in it, I am going to put my purple passion in it. That is gorgeous! I love the way you coordinate the plant with the pot!
My friend gave me this plant a couple weeks ago. I believe it’s a newborn, and I just love the purple hues! I noticed some aphids and tiny spiders on it so I sprayed some oil/soap insecticide on it, which seemed to help. I can’t wait to see it grow out so I can propagate it!
Came home to Texas for a short visit. My elderly parents like to buy plants but not look at the care of them. This poor thing was sitting in the window and had mealy bugs(?) on all the leaves. I dumped out the soil and rinsed off the whole plant while I searched for a video for care as I’ve never seen this plant before and needed to save it. As I was listening to this video, I found it had root rot. Of course. My dad likes to drown everything and give it exactly opposite if what it needs. Love the propagation tips. That easy huh?? Bet. This plant is super easy and I’m all about it. Now I gotta write down notes for my dad so he doesn’t kill it when I leave. Thank you so much for all the little tid bits. Btw, even three years later that lime green pot looks good although I personally prefer a lemon yellow. Lol!
I Love your channel. Keep up the awesome work.
Great to see a video from you! And on such a pretty plant too.
Thanks Carl!
💜 It is the best growing plant ever! I haven't had one for many years due to a lack of space but once upon a time I use to get starts from my Mom's purple passion plants and the vines were so beautiful.
great looking plant! thanks for introducing it. i’ll be on the look out for one👍🏾
Hope you find one, you'll love it!
I love this plant ❤️....I'm hoping to get another one soon...and finding one that's bigger already. I recently got one and my son snagged it..lolol. I guess I have to be glad he's gotten into plants like his momma. Already have green thumbs in my daughters so it's cool to see him developing a love for them too. Thank you for this video....I didn't have success with the first one I ever got so I love learning. Great teaching video...and yes your lime green pot shows up beautifully with the purple passion plant.
I finally managed to get my mitts on one of these. I LOVE it. So gorgeous. If the postage hadn't been prohibitively expensive I would have gotten more. I'd love a variegated one as well, but I've never seen one available in Australia. Really surprised there isn't more love for these babies.
I have 4 planted on a small raised bed outside in TN and they're doing great!
Glad to have you back in the plant world. Great video and just love this plant.🇬🇧🐾
Thank you! Hope all is well with you!
Tropical Plant Party thanks as well as we can be with this Coronavirus doing the rounds! Take care and stay safe.
Hi jeff. Glad to see you back. I love the purple passion plant! I haven't had one in years, but you reminded me how wonderful this plant is. So I guess I'll have to get another one soon! Oh, by the way, cute note of Pumkin's hairs on your plant! Awwe!
I hope you find one! So much hair! That's what was left after I tried to wash it all off.
Wow. I love this plant. I have 2 and they are so easy to grow. Thanks for spot lighting this plant. It is one of my favorite plants. And my favorite color. Purple. 😊👍
Mine too! We need more purple-leaved plants!
I really need to get one. Just love it. 💗
Just found your channel and I'm so glad i did!! Very helpful info!! Subscribed!! Thanks!!
Thank you!
🤗🤗🤗 Yayyyyy Jeff’s back 💚
👋👋 mostly! Thank you!
U used to have these as hanging plants. They looked beautiful.
I brought one today.dedicated to my dog that died yesterday
This video was exactly what I was looking for and I was laughing at the presentation as well. Sounds like you would be fun to hang out with! LOL I've had mine for about a year now and it recently fell over and started to crawl and I couldn't figure out if I was giving it too much light not enough over watering or what. Very informative video and now I know that I should propagate because it just fell over and did its thing. Thank you so much!
Glad you're back! FYI. Killed my purple passion. Might get another.
Recently got a medium size version of this plant and I’m in loveeeee. Just have to make sure to keep her soil moist.
I love the purple passion plant, My grandma had a beautiful one a long time age. I bought 1 and it died, so I bought another one had it for 1 week and I;m watching u tube videos to help me keep it alive. This was a great video and helpful, Thank You. I am going to try to get mine to look as good as yours.Thanks..
This was such a thorough video and I'm so appreciative because I haven't been able to find any information on this plant. I was wondering why those flowers stunk so bad lol. It's also getting really long and starting to trail. I was like, what is going on lol. Thank you for your information and knowledge. I really appreciate it, have a beautiful day🌱
I watering this plant also when the soil on the top feels dry. But if you want to prevent yellow leaves you have to give plant water soon as you see that leaves are a little bit drooping.
Glad to see a video. Hope you're recovering well from the nose job 😜 and will be back into the normal swing soon. Also, believe it or not, it grows fine outside here as long as it is in a shady place. It can get a little melty during the rainy season (if it is in a place where it gets rained on) but usually leafs back out.
Lol! I wish it was a nose job! Actually not really, I like my snooter.
That's probably why mine died long beforeI started gardening. It's way to hot in FL. Definitely a house plant next time. I loved this beautiful plant.
I literally just got three cuttings of this plant today it's so beautiful ! My friend has one hat is vining all over her living room ceiling and I'm so excited to have that in my window area where I keep my plants in my kitchen..thanks for your great informational videos love them so much ! ☺️
That's exciting! Congrats on your new plant baby! Thank you so much!
that sounds so beautiful😍😍😍wish I could see a photo😭lol
SO happy to see you back. Hoping this means you are feeling better. My Purple Velvet leaves kind of droop. Thinking after what you have said here I need to give it more water. So many say do not over water everything and I might have skimped on this one. Thanks Jeff. Missed you. Forgot Those rocks are amazing!!!
Thank you! Can always try to give it some extra water just one time and see how it responds.
@@TropicalPlantParty Thank you Jeff. I did just that and today the leaves are a little perkier . I think I will move it to a different window too. Stay safe where you are. All is good here.Ready to hunker down for several weeks.
Thanks, I just got my plant yesterday
I actually got my first 2 Purple Passions and I hope I can keep them happy!
Thank you Jeff, this is a beautiful plant always an eye catcher. And easy to give away starts.
I have one of these plants that has grown about 4 feet long and I love it!
Thank you for such a detailed video...I love this plant but I killed the first one...now I think....I think I know what I did wrong...so new plant is now here and I'm trying again...I'm determined to get one big and bushy and live it's best life here in my home along with all my other many plants...my home now looks like a jungle..I love it!! Oh... btw...your right the purple looks excellent in a lime green pot!! Sooo cuuuuuuute!!
New subscriber here! 👋 You sound like another KZheadr I follow named Tyler Rugge. I thought you were him for a second. If you don’t know who he is, he has all kinds of pets and some plants as well if I’m not mistaken. Just found a Purple Passion plant today at my local store and looked up how to care for it. You have great videos so I’m following!
I've had the same plant clippings in my family since the 1920s 😂
Great, thorough video of this plant! I want stinky flowers, but maybe next year when it is outside :)
😄 thank you!
Your rocks are sparkly :)
Thank you, I have just purchased one of the plants recently :) xx
Congrats! Don't ya love it!?
@@TropicalPlantParty definitely :) xx
Loved this! My plant is over two feet tall and there’s others that are thriving, watched this video to figure out propagating, so grateful how easy it is! Irrelevant question: I did some scrolling through your videos, and I’m looking for help with my struggling patchouli plant, do you have a video that covers them? Or other suggestions? TYSM!!
Very useful information. I am going to revive mine, make some cuttings and make it grow bushier :)
Holy shit the varigated ones are insane looking as well! Recently bought one haha the foilage is intense! Love it!
Me too! Especially when the light hits them and they almost sparkle!
THANK YOU!! Finally someone who gets to the main points and doesn’t go on a Blah blah blah rant that has nothing to do with the plant there “SUPPOSED” to be talking about! So thank you!! I love my plant, I got it at Home Depot and it’s being growing like crazy! I’m going to start propagating it just in case it doesn’t live long as some videos say & it just started showing buds ready to flower so those will be clipped ✂️ as I’ve heard they stink! Thank you again and keep doing what you do! Btw. Do you know anything about the purple waffle plant/Snow White waffle plant? That one I also got but it’s not growing as well as the velvet/passion plant!??
Great, informative video and spot on from my own experience. Mine started blooming a few days ago so I'm showing it lots of loving glances, for now, as no funk yet. I bought my first about 10 years ago and had the original for about 4 years when it began to fade and get scraggly, at which point the cuttings began. Mine loves being closer to my grow lights so i keep it amongst my Cattleyas. Can't beat it for the ease and amount of color and texture impact. Btw, I'm loving those cover stones in your Skittles pot 😍.
Ok, I've called it my skittles pot many times and nobody understood why! It looks like a skittle!
@@TropicalPlantParty Ya couldn't have called it by a better nickname. In fact, it's been a TPP Easter egg for me, so I look for 'skittles' in every video💚; this was a real treat. Lots of wishes for your speedy recovery.
I love these plants, purple passion. Lately been having a hard time keeping them ALIVE!!! I had 1 for about 5yrs then out of the blue dried up and died😭😭😭😭😭I seriously believe somebody gave it the evil eye 🙈 😪 one of my good friends gave me 1. It did last me a month 🥺
Omg I think I needed a looser soil, mine started rotting.. I clipped it and changed soil.. pray for me
Beautiful plant! Gosh! Who would give a thumbs down to plant videos? that is just so wrong!
Lol! Grumpy people who are desperate and hungry for some sort of feeling of power and control. I'm not bothered by it. I don't even notice the dislikes anymore. Have trained my brain to not see them. 🤣😂😅
I've had mine for over 7 years...I haven't snipped it over 2 years an now it's soooo long, I really need to re-pot like asap, ..Thank for info on my, "purple passion".
Thank you for an informative and complete video. I just ordered a 4" plant online. It didnt withstand the shipping..i unboxed a lot of dark tipped and mushy leaves on the bottom. Had to cut them off, but now it looks more tree like. Still a cool plant though
I let mine dry out before watering it, then let it soak in water for a couple of hours before removing the excess water. Mine is loving life and has grown beautiful since I got it home💜
I need help with mine any tips
I had a run-in with white fly infestation on my purple passions. NOT a fun time - basically I quarantined the infected plants and used a rubbing alcohol spray on them. I think the high evaporation of the alcohol was the reason my leaves didn't suffer but boy was it effective against the flies! Also, I bought two plant clippings for 10$ in 2017 - and I'm sure the mama plants are still around somewhere but I've gone and propagated off them for years and given away the babies while also making sure I kept one in every room in my house. I think the 4-5 year old thing is a myth if the plantkeeper is minding all the other things you mentioned in the video.
i loooove mine sm. she was doing so good the first 6 months but i guess i under watered her recently, she was flopped over so i watered her and she perked back up ofc, but now has lost the majority of her foliage. like, she has 8 leaves left from what was 2 very lush stems😭😭 turned super brown and crispy real quick. i took a propagation just in case lol and also it was so limp that one fell off when i grabbed it to water it lol so i propped that one too 🤣 we’ll see how it goes, if i have to get a new one so be it i def need this plant in my life , too gorgeous!
I finally got one recently! Came with aphids aplenty so she’s quarantined for now lol
For the summer you could take cuttings and pop them in with outdoor flowering pots, as you would coleus.
Maybe. When we hit triple digits they usually just rot and die if I don't remember to move them into pure, dark shade.
Mine is really limp, she's still young, I'm in NY so it's been cold, I have moved her underneath the peace Lilly I have and shares a lot with my golden pathos. I've only used coffee grinds as a fertilizer. Any tips on what to do to help? Love your video.
Hi Jeff! I had this plant years ago and really enjoyed it, but didn't realize they had a "life span", so once it died I never bought another one. It did last for several years, but got pretty leggy, and yes, the flowers stink, plus they look like dandelion flowers. How can such a beautiful plant have such a flower.....? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I may buy one again if I see it thanks to your very helpful info on this plant. 👍 👌 👏 So, I went on IG to see why you haven't had your normally scheduled videos and I couldn't find anything, but from the comments it sounded like others knew. I can't find the "updates". Please help! I get so frustrated!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing, and I'm glad you're back, too! Congrats on 20.6K!👏👏👏👏👏
I missed one watering and my small one was like byeeee!
This plant can and will tolerate full sun and heat. I’ve been growing this plant for over 22 years and every year before spring I would propagate it in water then transfer them to outside. It will lose all the leaves at first then replace them with brand new leaves. I have it in full sun and it gets sun all day long where I put it. Kepted it outside when it’s over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Which the temp here gets that high often during summer here in TN. I give it away during fall before freeze cause by the end of the summer it’s huge.
Lol yes Jeff your “POT”is pretty and it is green. Why, why does my brain work this way?? I don’t even enjoy that plant 🌱 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤣
Hey that's ok. Not everything is for everyone. There are plenty of very common and popular plants that do anything for me. I get it. 🙂
Tropical Plant Party noooo I was making a poor attempt (obviously) at making a joke about “pot” lol oh well 🤷🏻♀️🤣
The first plant I ever owned wasa a purple passion plant and I was 5 and we had her for years.
lovely.. i have one and i toke cutting they do well 👍🏾
They are great!
Two months ago my purple passion die only morning sun some time it drys on me it was trailing was so pretty water was ok the stems went black and dry i love your color mine was the darker color they grow in water, it is so pretty never got it back
I had one of these and i abs loved it… except mine got mites or some bug on it often
Can I just say that during the winter if you are in a cold climate, check the water because indoor heating tends to dry everything out along with outdoor moisture being frozen. Just something I have noticed. I have to water much more in the winter vs. our humid summers.
Hey Jeff. Hope you're doing good?. How long before your climate allows the grow room plants to move outside? In Ne uk we are getting liws of 2-5 c at night. Occasional low double digits, usually high singles. Have a great weekend. Missed your entertainment last weekend!
Thank you! It varies from year to year. I've already moved the more cold hardy plants back out. We sometimes get a random few days of cold in the first week of may, so I usually wait until late april even though it's plenty warm outside from mid march and on. Just have to be careful bc of those few random cold snaps.
I have had mine for about 5 years. It grew best when I mostly ignored it. I killed the main plant last winter by over watering it I think. I saved a clipping and it grew ok this year but I over did the water again so now im back down to a clipping. That's why I am doing some research to try not to kill it again!! Wish me luck.
I just received this plant from my grandma which the plant use to be originally my great granmas, so about 20+ year old plant
You have solidified my decision to buy a purple passion plant! Thank you!!! By the way where did you get the lime green planter?
They are great! I got that from an antique store and it doesn't have any label on it. I'm sorry!
I found a replacement this weekend after killing mine years ago. I have it in a bathroom window facing west so it gets sun through a privacy window filter. I hope to keep it there it's just too hot for it outside. Getting 100+ this weekend 🥵
💚💚💚
💜🌱
Can fox farms be used for those plants i want to fertilize now that spring is about here but wasn’t sure if I could use that.
hi Jeff, I just got 2 of the Purple Passion Plant, should you not get the leaves wet? (like African violets?), should you water from the bottom?
Did I miss a video? or were you really missing in action for a bit? Cute fuzzy purple-ness.
Nah, I took a week off, you didn't miss anything. 🙂🙃
Love this little plant. Very expensive here just outside (east)Toronto. $19.99 for a small plant.
What!? I think this was like $4 from lowes!
Tropical Plant Party maybe I will find one when garden centres ramp up for spring.
Nice just bought a small one can input in a big pot to creat a bush like??
No lie I’m scared for my purple violet. I had her for years and she does well. Has been a strong girl grew a few feet but then she started to die so I propagated her. That went well but she is struggling. She started dying and propagated herself now I’m trying to nurse her new baby as best as I can
So frustrating when they act fine and grow well, then just fizzle out for no apparent reason. Hopefully the babies will get going nice and strong for you!
Can you give me the link to top dressing rocks that you used for this plant. Thanx
Would be helpful to show a particular fertilizer & NPK numbers. Thx!
I have had one of these for a few years now. A few weeks after I brought it home half of it died. The remaining stalk that lived sprouted a like 5 foot vine its still growing. I'd like to repot it and clip it, but it makes me really nervous so I just keep the spil wet and let it do its thing. It lost its purple a long time ago, also. Its faintly there... but the leaves are pretty much just green. I'd move it to more light but that would be hard to do. And advice on how to handle the vine situation would be much appreciated. Thanks for the video post!
