I loved severe weather because I was born in Cebu Philippines where typhoons we're common. When I moved to NY was fascinated with nerders thanks to storm stories. But never in my wildest dreams that I would end up living in Lubbock, Tornado Alley, Texas. I blame the US Army, TDCJ, & myself for falling for a man in uniform.😏

I used to live in El Paso, and the sun shines a lot, but sand storms, surprising snowstorms, flash floods, and be escaping the sand that sneaked into the house every night was a pain. However, I still love the Lone Star State. Bigger, better, hotter, colder, dryer, wetter, and all that went with living there. Ever eaten Texas Burger? I want to give credit where credit is due. The man that captured and documented this ginormous tornado. This is the BEST footage of a tornado I’ve ever seen in my life! • This is good training right here this video.. it shows first and foremost that you NEVER, EVER, assume the entire tornado is visible with that little drill bit at the beginning. It WAS ALREADY a half mile wide wedge at that point. But touching down in the dry line, even a dry RFD feeding it made the visible condensation funnel not tell the whole potentially deadly story. It was when it hit the dust field that it's true form became quickly known. So please SPOTTERS, never trust a tornado!!! Always assume the wind field is at least as wide as the base (wall cloud), thats how El Reno 2013 almost gobbled up everybody , the little carosel of funnels is a good photo op. Unless the actual tornado is already on top of you... Good catch dude.

  • It's big, awesome and beautiful. But realistically a lot of it's size is due to all the dust particles it's sucking up. It's probably about half the size it appears, lost in that cloud of dust.

    • I doubt that the condensation funnel is even half that size.

  • Beautiful images! Impressive structure. But it's nearly looking peaceful, am I right in the assessment that this was not a violent tornado?

    @Smaugyyy@Smaugyyy Жыл бұрын
    • Incorrect. Other footage from closer shows this tornado with multiple strong subvortices. Likely a very violent tornado. If it hit town would likely be MINIMUM of high end EF-3 if not EF-4 or higher

      @jamesstemmler7620@jamesstemmler7620 Жыл бұрын
    • it only seems this way because there are no structures nearby. as the person above me said, had this tornado been in a more highly populated area then it would’ve caused significant damage.

      @rylandcisco4192@rylandcisco4192 Жыл бұрын
    • Ok, if there were subvortexes then probably it was violent, only it seems to rotate relatively slowly in the video.

      @Smaugyyy@Smaugyyy Жыл бұрын
    • @@rylandcisco4192 they released a preliminary report that this was an EF2 due to two power poles that were broken at the base by this tornado.

  • The sub-vortices or satellites seen at the end reminds me of the 2013 El Reno monster tornado that looked similar to that towards the end of it's life. Awesome footage!

  • Was there at Morton with silver lining tours on a ten day vacation. My first mothership supercell and wedge tornado. Very impressive storm. So much dusty inflow due to the bad drought so the storm was like a huge vacuum cleaner sucking in all the dust.
