  • I liked the cop pull-over. My buddy and I dropped an L88 option motor into a super fine Malibu with 4-speed and nitrous spray back about 1977 in Midland, MI. Needless to say, it was a sweet ride and a fun cruise car. One day we were at some burger place and a kid in a Mustang wanted to go on the four-lane. We rolled out and let him jump......ran thru the gears and the kid thought his front wheels fell off..... Unfortunately, we were not alone and the highway patrol pulled both of us over. We could see the kid getting his ticket and slumping farther down in his seat with every passing second. Then came our turn.....I'd been howling with laughter due to the fact my buddy was driving and I was not..... When the HP got to the car, we expected the worst. Instead, his first words, "Whaddya guys got in this thing? I got one of these at home and ....blah, blah, blah." In short, we spent 45 minutes at the side of the road B.S.ing and bench racing. A real cool guy....became a good friend.

    • Reminds me of my similar experience in the mid '70s. I grew up in the hot rod culture of the '60s and '70 and learned to turn wrenches at a young age. My first car when I was 17 was a '69 SS 396 Camaro with a built L78, 4 speed Muncie with a Hurst T, full cam, 4.11 posi, etc etc etc. I was from the Midwest but became a crew chief on jets in the USAF (there were lots of hot rodder turned jet guys in the AF back then) and ended up stationed in NJ for my first tour. My car was street legal back home but not in NJ, but I trailered it there (with my '71 350 Impala sport coupe). I kept my home state registration, which was/is legal to do for active duty military. I used to mostly granny it around and try to not attract too much attention to myself, but it stuck out like a sore thumb on the streets in NJ so I knew it was only a matter of time until I got pulled over, and I was right. One day I was just puttering along well under the speed limit in the right lane of a four lane highway when a cruiser came up in the left lane, slowed down suddenly, shadowed me for a minute or two off my corner panel, then moved over behind me and the lights came on. After he confirmed that my out of state registration was valid and legit due to the fact I was active duty military stationed there in NJ, he wanted to talk cars. He thought it was great that we had no state-required vehicle inspections or stickers and could legally run some pretty outrageous (compared to NJ) stuff on the street. We talked cars for a few minutes then went on our way.

  • I’ve had a 73 hatchback, same paint as this one and a 78, both two doors and both were totaled, one by a kid blowing a stop sign (78) and the other by an old man wearing a hat! Steer clear of any hats sitting on a steering wheel as you’re about to pass! Talk about an omen, Jesus I’m lucky to still be alive! I love those cars and both were sleepers. They each had 350’s w/350 turbo trans in them. I only wish they had been as badass as this one though! The more stock looking the better... It’s really fun to see others faces when you leave them in rubber smoke when they’re driving their shiny $3000 glitter three toned paint job on their so called “muscle” cars lol I basically even left primed bodywork on them and they were daily drivers. This one is Just Beautiful!

I mean, there's hyperbole which means "a gross exaggeration", but I don't know of a word for the exact opposite; "a gross understatement". Anyway, that car is INCREDIBLE!! Again, a HUGE understatement. Thanks for sharing this. I don't care how many times I see it, I love watching this video every time I see it.

  • I'd love to have that car even without the hot engine. I had one just like it back in the 80's, '72 Chevy Nova, same color, bench seat, exact. It had one of those weird 307 V8 engines in it. It was fast enough for me..lol. The speedometer said 120....but I buried that needle past the right turn signal light! Probably in the neighborhood of 140 mph+ in that stock 307 2-barrel carb. No power steering, but no play in the wheel either like this Nova in the video, and great brakes. It hugged the road, and I rodded it around the hilly curvy back roads of the 0zark Mountains. Nobody had balls enough to catch me...not even the local lawdogs, lol. In fact, I drank enough beer while driving my old Nova to float a battleship around...lol. Doobies? You bet your ass. The cigarette lighter worked, and me and my old buddies back then would smoke the joints down as far as we could....and then drop the roaches into the cigarette lighter and take nose hits! Lol. The '80's in the backwoods of the 0zarks.....what a time to be a young man. Great car brother. The sight of it brings back memories and gives this old dude a hardon. Peace.

    • @@bosshoggjdkk5211, Right. But the most common engine in those old Nova's was a 305. Isn't is correct that the 307 was an oddball engine, built from a combination of left over parts? It was an experiment that worked out well. That is my understanding. I wasnt trying to put the engine down, as mine performed excellent. Peace.
