End of an Era
(An updated version of this video with a voiceover can be viewed here: • End of an Era - Dinosa... ).
This is a short film outlining the events surrounding the extinction of the dinosaurs, 66 million years ago. The extinction was provoked by the impact of an asteroid (possibly a comet) some 10 to 14 km across, near present-day Mexico. The crater today has been buried under ocean sediments but is still readily detectable with the appropriate tools. The blast threw up a layer of iridium - rare in the Earth's crust but common in asteroids - that covered the entire planet. The impact ended the Cretaceous period and the Mesozoic era, and paved for way for the Cenozoic in which we now live. It is known as the k-pg mass extinction.
This film was created using Autodesk 3ds Max, Adobe Photoshop
and Adobe After Effects.

    @ShivKumar-zh6iv@ShivKumar-zh6iv3 жыл бұрын
    • Birds are, in fact, considered dinosaurs by most palaeontologists these days - and by extension they are also reptiles. Odd though that sounds. The extinction killed only the non-avian ones. Birds were already well established during the reign of the dinosaurs. They are related to a family of therapod dinosaurs- the two-legged meat -eaters.

      @spaceboffin@spaceboffin3 жыл бұрын
  • Are all giant dinosaurs extinct (as scientists say)? No, this is not true, not all types of large-sized dinosaurs became extinct, and some are still alive today. For example, giant whales, such as the blue whale, are indeed among those giant dinosaurs. These creatures are completely different from all the creatures existing today. They came from another era. To clarify this theory, dinosaurs were divided into two types, a land type and a marine type, just like contemporary animals, and the wild species that are characterized by their giant size became extinct due to their inability to hide from the factors of extinction in the ice ages while the marine dinosaurs survived because the depths of the oceans were not affected by the factors of extinction. Also, some wild species that were distinguished by their small and medium size survived and were able to hide in burrows or caves, perhaps the most important examples of surviving land dinosaurs include the rhinoceros, hippopotamus, crocodile, and perhaps turtles as well. Do you support the validity of this theory?

    @abdullahnoman6264@abdullahnoman62648 ай бұрын
    • Yes, not all dinosaurs became extinct. Birds are dinosaurs. Whales, rhinos and hippos are mammals, not reptiles. Crocs are reptiles but not dinosaurs. Just because an animal is big or a reptile does not make it a dinosaur. Sorry. And by the way, many, many dinosaurs were actually pretty small.

    • It wasn't the most devastating extinction event in terms of the number of genera killed - that record belongs to the earlier Permian extinction, or the Great Dying. But it was by far the swiftest mass extinction in history. Within less than a week, virtually all non-avian dinosaurs were gone. Previous extinctions took hundreds of thousands of years to unfold.

    • @@spaceboffin Yeah well they they agree on their own findings all the time just to end up 10 years later with new findings that change their theory and they are the ones to find new clues that debinks their own theories to top it . . You should know by now that no theory is writen in concrete and that future findings allways come up that will discard the old theory thats nothing new . For dacades they though that it was humans who were causing the climate changes and now they know that humans are only contributing to it not causing it .

      @guytremblay1647@guytremblay1647 Жыл бұрын
    • Yes, this is how science works. New findings either destroy or enhance the theory. So far the impact theory has been corroborated many times over. The existence of a crater from the exact date of the extinction. A layer of iridium all over the globe at the K-Pg boundary. More recently, actual dinosaurs mummified during the impact, some with impact debris (spherules) embedded within them. None of this is 'proof'. You can't prove a theory - only disprove it, or find so much evidence it becomes virtually established 'fact'. But it's hard to see how another hypothesis can explain all these findings.
