How To Turbo Your Toyota 1HZ on a Budget!

2024 ж. 9 Мам.

Do you own a 1HZ powered 70, 80 or 100 series Toyota Landcruiser and you're thinking about Turbocharging the engine? The smart way is to buy a 1HZ Turbo Kit and bolt it on at home but what if you've got a Subaru Turbo laying around in the shed?
Today on The Skid Factory we show you how to turbo your 1HZ and include the important tasks like welding a drain into the sump, replacing the big end bearings and where to get oil pressure for the oil feed!
Whilst we completed this job on a "Budget" its possible to do it cheaper by recycling second hand parts or using different materials, If you've got anything to add please comment below and add your opinion!
If you've got a mate that needs to turbo his Land Cruiser please share this video with them!
Thanks to Chris at Evolution Tuning for the runs on the dyno! If you've got a diesel and want some performance gains than send him a message!

  • Years ago I had an 80 (1HDT), an interesting 'trick' I found was swapping out the airbox with one from the 1FZ model, its the same airbox, only the lid is different. Instead of being flattened its a nice radius bend and slightly larger pipework. Just that one change boost increased from 12 to 17psi! without a change to anything else. Wound it back down slightly Shows a major restriction in that one part, made the system more efficient with better boost response

      @gb4408@gb440811 ай бұрын
    • You have to dig through the timing case to get at the oil pump. So having the sump off doesn't make it that much easier. I also have a suspicion that they're not the cheapest thing. I'd assume if the oil pressure is still good you wouldn't go there. I'm not a mechanic. 👍

  • Awesome vid. I've got a 105 series with a 1hz running 8psi and after seeing this I'm definitely looking into new big end bearings and a tune for it. Keep up the great work fellas 🤙

  • I really liked this one. And I'm not into Landcruisers or Toyotas. But upgrades like this are super satisfying and I love how you guys do vids on big budget builds and budget stuff too. And the music was on point!!

  • This I can get behind. A mate in high school did this to his 1HZ powered 80 series in 2006. It really woke the car up and gave it many more years of motoring before he upgraded to a 79 series.

  • I've done that trick Al mentioned about filling the sump up with oil when you drill to flush the filings out. Only I did it with diesel because it's cheaper and I could filter it and still burn it.
