I once had a boss show this to me as an example of why we shouldn't know each others' pay. Like we both didn't just watch the same video of a person getting screwed for absolutely no reason lol. To me this is a clear argument for transparency, not against it.

@ChattyPablo well anyone "can" do anything. this about "should." that's not a good reason at all.
I guess in the work relations we should be only concerned about what we earn related to what we do. No matter what other people earn or do. At the end, the ones who do less than what they're payed for will lose their job at some point, while the one who does more than what he earn may get some income raise at some point. I always work measuring that I MUST do the best to deserve my earnings, as a means to wether I clain an income adjust, maybe showing the possibility of leaving the enterprise, the boss answers GIVING me it. That's exactly why I earn more than my job mate do.
I like how he cocks his forearm back to through the cucumber with maximum force.
"I like how he *cocks* his forearm back" - LOL.
But he doesn't throw the rock for some reason. Like it still has hope for the grape exchange. I feel like advertisers and gambling businesses use this tactic of having an idea or instance of an exemplary winner. But through our actions we only get the "cucumber"
Monkey shaking the cage: I want to talk to my lawyer!!!!!!
The point is the monkey probably wouldn't react like this IF he didn't see the other monkey getting the grape. What makes me so different from the other monkey that I can't also get the grape? It's not fair. He's got a point
I suppose that’s what the experiment shows but I can also imagine being similarly frustrated with this even without the other monkey. Like if you’re correctly following the instructions and not getting the end result 😅

Sorry, I know your comment was posted a year ago, but I thought you would like to know that they have done that experiment as well. Same result. They also did an experiment with monkeys where they had monkeys give a token to someone in exchange for grapes. Later, they added another researcher who gave one or two more grapes than the other researcher and they discovered the monkeys would go to the researcher who gave out more grapes. Then, they took out the original two researchers and put in three new researchers (all of them giving out different amounts of grapes). They found that the monkeys went to the researcher who they perceived would give them more grapes and that the monkeys would get angry if they perceived they were not getting enough grapes. All these experiments are totally legitimate.
the bujeezis always gotta be one doesn’t there. That guy.
@@jbinpo this is ti the concept of fairness not whether they could count and do math
@@jbinpo It is a test of fairness, because you're giving the monkeys an unequal reward for the same work, which is unfair, which means you're testing whether or not the monkeys have an understanding of fairness in how they react to being treated unfairly.
Stupid
That's funny but also sad. I hope the cucumber monkey got plenty of grapes after the experiment.
Generally, trial monkeys are treated very well. And in cases where they have to associate something with mistreatment, in this case delivering rocks, they make sure not to expose them to rocks afterward due to the negative association.
Yes, she did. I heard it in a full video.
I wonder if Jeff bezos films his workers at Amazon and laughs at them the way this crowd laughs at this monkey?

Underrated comment
You can see that we really are very close to other primates in the evolutionary tree. The way she threw the cucumber reminded me of how humans threw rotten tomatoes. The way she shook the cage was just like how someone pissed off would shake a jammed gate or door. And even how she tried to investigate what she was doing wrong by checking the rock shows intelligence and an understanding of the concept of fairness and injustice. Injustice that she was doing the same and yet was given a lesser prize and she had a sense of fairness that logically she should be receiving something of equal value.

I first had to watch this video for one of my college psychology classes. During my last semester, I had this statistics-based class that involved computer programs to solve homework problems (SPSS, R-Studio, etc.). Coincidentally one of the assignments involved scientific data from monkeys receiving grapes at different times during experimentation. I briefly talked about this video near the end of class and everybody was laughing. They couldn't imagine how pissed the cucumber monkey was feeling after he threw it.😂
If I asked for grapes and got ripped off, I'd be pissed, too.

This experiment represents only half of the concept. The complimentary experiment should be asking the first monkey to deliver 2 rocks for a red grape and then giving a red grape to the second monkey for delivering just one rock. I wonder how soon or even if the first monkey would realize they're getting paid only half of what the second monkey is getting paid. Good stuff indeed.
it's so cute to see the little monkey get angry like that
Notice how the other one didn't give him grape neither to counter injustice

this begs the question: is morality innate?
Doesn't beg but kinda answers it. That's what the experiment is about, the concept of fairness and how inteligent animals clearly have it.
Personal interest created morality. Personal interest if my sibling is getting grapes, I want grapes too. So my sibling or whoever it is better make room for me otherwise I will get pissed and stir up trouble. That is how and why we created fairness rules to keep the peace. In my opinion anyway.
I hope they may a longer video, this is so satisfying to watch!!?:)
Exactly my thoughts. I don't know why, but watching a monkey suffering from injustice feels so good
Notice how the other monkey didn't give up any of its grapes when it saw the scam?
Ok! I understand.
That chicks troll game is strong.
I want to know if the other monkey FINALLY got a grape after the experiment. FYI The monkeys are NOT kept in these "cubicles". These arw specifically for tests, and teaching. See the door behind them? After yhey are done the monkeys rejoin others in a large area of tree like branches, swings, and toys. Water is always available as well.
Now imagine being the monkey that does 3 times the work gets a piece of cucumber from which the researcher takes a bite first and then it watches the other monkey get 2 grapes for doing nothing. This is how the middle class is, maybe even worse.
Lmao in what world is this true. No one gets paid for doing nothing.

You don't understand the context in which fairness is being used in the experiment.....
right..
moral of the story, give cucumber to all your employees
It`s being fed cucumbers just for handing a rock back. The fact that it`s willing to throw perfectly good food away just because it wants something sweeter shows that it`s well fed. The monkeys are neither too docile or too aggressive(they`re curious about their environment and eager to work with the scientist, but also aren`t afraid to show their displeasure), so they`re not being abused. I don`t see what the problem is here. You act like they`re being tortured, rather than being fed.
It is torture though. Subtle but torture anyway. It made me feel extremely uneasy. They’re making the monkey feel pain on purpose. That’s torture. Give the god darn monkey his friggin grape!
@@TheRafark it's not that bad if this is just a small experiment and they freed the monkey shortly after. If these monkeys are being kept in prolonged captivity for the sake of further experiments, that would absolutely be wrong. Not only that, but it would harm the legitimacy of the research, as your monkeys diverge significantly from those in the wild.
@@TheRafark Torture would be, if they sliced its head open and poke the brain while the monkey still being conscious, that would be torture.
It's funny the first time. The second time it's sad because these monkeys could be enjoying the wild. I hope they at least gave the first monkey a big bowl of grapes at the end!

This is the fundamental mechanism of racism. Divide people and treat both sides unequally making one side privileged and the other side deprived. Both sides will worry about each other rather than the rulers who set this up. Woke antiracists do not like this at all. They serve the rulers and dividers. To them the monkey with the grape is the oppressor, not the human treating them unfairly. Do this repeatedly and them one day remove the divider in the cage. See what happens.
Its funny because you are fairly right. But to you the group you are mad at are "woke antiracists", instead of the billionaires that are ruining your life. You too are indoctrinated by the media that tells you to be mad about the "woke antiracists" instead of the people who basically own you like a slave. You are participating in the system you seem to despise. You are what you yourself complain about.
You mean classism, not racism. Mainly because you can never change your race, so it wouldn't work in the scenario you imagined. Class is different.
