Something rotten is brewing beneath the industrial mecca known as Raccoon City. Unknown to its millions of residents, a huge underground bioengineering facility known as The Hive has accidentally unleashed the deadly and mutating T-virus, killing all of its employees. To contain the leak, the governing supercomputer, Red Queen, has sealed all entrances and exits. Now a team of highly-trained super commandos including Rain (Michelle Rodriguez - The Fast and the Furious, Girlfight), Alice (Milla Jovovich - The Fifth Element) and Matt (Eric Mabius - Cruel Intentions) must race to penetrate The Hive in order to isolate the T-virus before it overwhelms humanity. To do so, they must get past the Red Queen's deadly defenses, face the flesh-eating undead employees, fight killer mutant dogs and battle The Licker, a genetically mutated savage beast whose strength increases with each of its slain victims.

They should have based it on the game more, the games are award-winning, but the films are nowhere near award-winning. They should remake the whole thing, with a brand new cast, and base it exactly on the games. Resident Evil 4 was an especially good game with some real scary shit, especially when the chainsaw-wielding maniac with a sack over his head chases you out of the woods. All this red queen shit and over-the-top sci-fi bollox ruined it.
@@damonbervoets1435 And more importantly, not combining the first two games like how they did it for the so called reboot, and with books as well like with the Artemis Fowl series, which I loved as a kid. It should be one at a time so there are no complexities and intertwining issues that have interfered with films that are based off of series like Artemis Fowl, Resident Evil, and other series that have had the same treatment.
I love the first movie, unlike its sequels. And its opening music theme still gives me shivers.
Kinda jarring comparing the sequels to this film when you see how far off the rails Anderson went as they went on.

I recently bought all the movies, I had a strange sense of familiarity with them and even though I didn't know the laser scene came from the resident evil movies, it had always stuck with me, I must've watched it years ago when I was younger but something about it, I just never forget how brutal it was, not in a gorey way (although, it is pretty gorey) just, how threatening the brightly lit, impersonal hallway was, only to be the deadliest thing they encountered (for the most part) wiping out a little under half the team and the one dude you thought might make it to the end, when I saw the movie in full recently I was just blown away and pumped to have found it after all these years lmfao

The plot in this film is actually really underrated. Love it

Well actually in my opinion she killed people who could escape with the virus so she was actually helping umbrella keep the virus secure so they could use it as a bioweapon, either way she kinda was a bit evil

This is why facilities dealing with viral weaponry should have special sensors in the vents that can seal off sections of said vents to keep shit from spreading. If you're dealing with something that can go airborne, you set up countermeasures.

I don't know if somebody has noticed, but Spencer appears walking in front of the officer 3:49. He was almost locked with everyone in the Hive and killed by The Red Queen defenses.
2:58 has always been my favorite scene in the movie 😂. This guy is trying to be happy even though it’s likely a Monday, he’s at an office job doing the same work every day alongside 100s of other people who all just want to meet their quota, hit their hours and lastly go home. He decided “today is the day I’m going to be positive!” Then immediately upon arriving gets greeted with hot coffee spilling onto him, and then moments later being doomed to become a zombie and eventually get fish filleted by Alice… one might say he caused all of this, a paradox by deciding to be positive on a Monday. Moral of the story: Mondays are Mondays, expect the worst and hope for the best,

I suspect the guys in the elevator were the only ones who hadn't been infected, hence why the Red Queen stopped their imminent demise, until they opened the sealed elevator onto an infected floor that is.

Yeah, 1 & 2 films are ok, but the rest well quite suck. Anyways still the good old days of the early 2000s & the era of DVD films that replaced VHS tapes & before the online & download films.

Love this perspective. The ordinary day at the office horror. Before it became the superhero Alice show. Even Jill Valentine and the Redfield siblings were treated like minor characters.
Alice is really the main thing wrong with this series. If she was gone it would be significantly better
This pre-outbreak office setting may actually be the most aesthetically pleasing set design of the entire film franchise.
@@jamesedleymusic I was ok with Jovovich's character in this movie because there was something naive, innocent, and likable about Alice here. But after this movie, it was all smugness and fake badassery against a backdrop of CGI that got cheaper and cheaper as the movies wore on. I'm not sure what characters would have fared well given how badly the movies degenerated over time.
This movie was great. It wasn't high regarded when it came out but time has done well with it. It has lots of good stuff going on and many memorable moments.
What I still don’t understand is why the umbrella op team wasn’t able to see that red Queen locked down the hive because of a contamination outbreak
it was simple, someone in the higher ups told the Umbrella Security Service division that Their Artificial Inteligence, The Red Queen went rogue and slaughtered all of its employees in its own underground Facilites. When in reality it was following its basic protocols and to ensure safety of all mankind. meaning the higher ups wanted them to be the Fire(entering the hive& waking the dead) to the fuse(Raccoon city&Tokyo) of the bomb(the world).
They didn’t want them knowing what was going on. The Umbrella Op team were literally just people like us. They just worked for them. Doesn’t mean they knew exactly what was going on with the company y
Highly trained police and security personnel are not usually hired for their ability to complete potential suicide missions. For obvious reasons telling applicants they may have to carry out suicide missions limits the potential applicant pool.
I remember watching this in theaters when it came out. We almost got kicked out of the theater for being so loud. I was 12.

The best Resident Evil movie ever, the feeling of watching it on the big screen 2 years after playing Code : Veronica on the Dreamcast (the first Resident Evil game I played, first survival horror) that i will remember for the rest of my life. Like they say, you will always remember the first time.

This right here was really good. I wish the whole franchise kept this tone. It would have been amazing.
A couple of things just doesn't make sense to me. The Red Queen said that sealing the Hive and killing everyone inside was the only way to stop a bigger outbreak, yet there was an anti-virus to the T-Virus right there in the labs. So when the T-Virus was unleashed in the Hive, why didn't the Red Queen simply alert the facility about the outbreak, put all the employees in quarantine, ensure the distribution the anti-virus to all those infected and then monitor their recovery progress, a.k.a. try and save as many as possible instead of just killing everybody altogether? And why didn't she alert Umbrella about the outbreak during that time, or even tell the Sanitation team and others what had happened when they first entered the Hive up until they reached her chamber?
It was airborne. She had to make sure it didn't get out.

She said she "won't deal with chances" the anti-virus wasn't 100% affective and she won't try it. She was a computer with no feelings and did what she had to do.
This movie really was something else when it came to horror and sense of hopelessness and isolation, i rarely seen movies do that like this one.

I did not understand at the expense of their ventilation system. this is a very serious complex, as a result, because of one test tube, it was all infected. did no one accidentally break test tubes with the t-virus in it before?
Honestly. Resident Evil and Resident Evil Apocalypse weren’t that bad. They were mediocre but they were somewhat enjoyable compared to the rest.

This movie is a true survival horror masterpiece, it doesnt matter if the Resident Evil fanboys didnt like it.
Contrary to that, this was the only movie that actually stuck to the game story line, except for Alice’s character. That’s why this feels different from the rest of the franchise.

That one strike with the axe did enough damage to indicate that the bulletproof/ blast resistant glass could eventually be broken through. If they took turns striking the glass, the crew could have broken out or at least create a hole big enough for the water to drain.

What really set the tone for the film is the narrator telling us about Umbrella Corp and how truly sinister it actually is simply by telling us about the things they work on that most of their own employees have no idea of.

Resident Evil is great its a horror movie based on the video game franchise. Not a super copy and even goes out of its way to be unique and stand out in a good way.

One thing most people forget about this movie is that it’s supposed to be a prequel, so when they bitch about their favourite characters and locations not being depicted, that really has no merit because it is its own self-contained thing.
