@@vinschnent yes exactly. Its senseless if the French work 1000 hours per day but are not productive. I observed the same in Greece and Spain, where I live. They work a lot but they do nearly nothing in this time and wonder, why they dont earn money. Just sitting and waiting and doing nothing is not working.

Many of those impressions are *very* specific to Munich, the rest of Germany can be very different. Both in a positive and in a negative way.

@@barbarusbloodshed6347 Not sure what you think of "Ruhrpott" but I have lived there for about 10 years and it was pretty alright. In my experience people who find a lot of places to be "dangerous" have either been really unlucky or they have a tendency to get into trouble themselves... or they've never actually been to said place and just heard scary stories. Like I now live in Berlin close to Warschauer Straße/Brücke and some people will be like "oh no don't go there. it's so dangerous!" and I'm like what are you even talking about? Same with places like Kottbusser Tor in Kreuzberg or Neukölln in general. A couple of homeless punks or dudes selling weed aren't going to shiv you for walking by. Some people just live way too sheltered lives and freak out the moment they see signs of poverty or minor criminial activity.

This is so strange for me... I am German, but lived 24 years in the US, and recently returned home. I so understand the interviewed opinions, i do feel a bit as a foreigner here as well. The bureaucracy and lack of digital solutions is really a pain. 😅 I mean... you may have the option to fill out a form out online, just so they print it out in their office and it gets processed the old way anyway. 😂 One thing is for sure: Shit happens everywhere, but it is MUCH safer here than anywhere in the USA. Als jemand, der seit fast 10 Jahren in Spanien lebt, kann ich sagen, dass es hier tausend mal schlimmer ist als in Deutschland. Behörden reagieren teilweise nicht mal auf Nachfragen meines Anwaltes und es wird allgemein empfohlen, sich nur über Gestorias an spanische Behörden zu wenden, um überhaupt Aussicht auf Erfolg zu haben. In Deutschland bekommt man wenigstens irgendwann das, was man haben will.

Ich stimme Ihnen zu. Lebe auch am Mittelmeer und die Bürokratie ist um einiges ineffektiver. Im Vergleich zur Schweiz, Dänemark, Hong Kong oder anderen entwickelten Staaten wie die USA ist Deutschland eine Katastrophe. Hier ist ein Kanadier online ohne Besuch in Kanada zur Rente gegangen. Macht seinen Reisepass auch online. Da ist Deutschland weit weg davon...
I moved from Germany to New Zealand, and I miss how smoothly everything worked in Germany, plus the Germans are much more reliable than the New Zealanders. When you come from Germany you take things for granted, now I appreciate it more.
I think that’s something very true. Its easy to criticize things if you’ve never seen anything else and think the answers and solutions are simple. I would say most of the ppl who actually lived in other parts of the world will tell you they realized what they had. There is no perfect and the grass seems to always be greener on the other side. Appreciate your own grass lol
Totally agree! We (i.e. Germans) are a bunch of complainers and there are quite a few of things to complain about. But on the whole, we have it pretty good. Anyone who has ever lived abroad for a long time can understand that, I think. And on a side note: I think it's good to point out one's faults because acknowledging what's wrong is the first step to improvement.
The best thing when I travel to Germany, compared to Guatemala is the beautiful silence, no trash, and no poor street animals.
There's nothing wrong with street animals, they can live freely, our world isn't just for humans.

As a german i wish more other germans would see this video to be more thankful what they have. I was for 3 weeks in Rio de Janeiro and it showed me pretty well how different the world can be.
I'm from Brazil, I've been to Germany but never to Rio de Janeiro because my parents don't think it's safe enough lol
It's almost a German pass-time to complain, yet mass-riots are much less prevalent than in neighboring France, unless the crowd is really pissed off (even then they're mostly peaceful). If you ever get no proper response from a German on what's bugging them, you can safely assume their life is as perfect as it gets or they just don't know were to start. 🤭
Can we shortly thank the English for making their language so easy to learn that we can talk to people from all over the world?

@@peter_meyer In all languages, one can give an example with homonyms and polysemantic words. It's not a 'disadvantage'.

English is not exactly easy. It is ubiquitous. And the latter makes it acceptable as a lingua franca. Native speakers can still spot hundreds of grammatical and stylistic errors in your written English.

Munich was so quiet and peaceful when I was there in 2014. I loved it. People are reserved.
In my opinion, as a German, it is ok country to live, but not to enjoy life. Any time I was in Brazil or Italy I made friend super quickly, and they are really good friends, including my Italian boyfriend... In Germany I only am friends good friends with people with Turkish background etc. I do think my German German friends are way too strict and cold-hearted, I do not feel so well around them. I dont connect with typical German mentality, sometimes can be really harsh and brutal mentality... I love Italian way of living, you invite people over for pasta pizza, just to have a nice evening, you dont have to become friends or best friends, but just be a bit more spontaneous and friendly. A smile goes a long way.
try to live in italy whitout you’re parents support IS LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE people whit master degrees in engineering get payed 1500/1600€ a month but the cost of the life is not that different from Germany (10% less or something like that)

What could be better ? Coming from a german, the korean girl was spot on ... the bureaucracy in this country is awful, even for us germans
The double whammy is that 'Beamtendeutsch' is hard to understand for many natives… how can people cope that don't speak the language apart from running everything through machine translation or (hopefully) getting an official translation. At least all country-wide legal stuff should be available in other languages (human-verified) online.

Bavaria is by far the biggest & most important 'Freistaat' (Saxony comes somewhat close, but still far). Baden-Württemberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony & Hesse also have a lot people, but none of those states even have noteworthy independence movements. Munich if anything may be comparable to Hamburg in terms of entire federal states.

whaaaaaat :D its the best thing about germany! woudl you rather be at the mercy of the mood of some dude or gal who decideds stiff for you ?`i think having a papertrail of all decision and acts done to and from you is THE best thing if you want objectiviy in all things :D that said there is of course no reason why the papertrail still needs to be on friggin paper in 2023 :P but we are gettign there..slowly but steady , my mom litterlya last year was creating web forms for "Haltung eines gefährlichen Hundes" for the city administration ;) its comming ! dont give up hope :D

We are to serious, like the man on the bike said. The Netherlands they are not that strict for what i have experienced- again a little generalised. When you visit or move here choose the right city or area for your state of mind. That is the maybe the most interesting fact about Germany, that when it comes to mentalities, we got everything here. Beaches, mountains, forests, castles, several big cities every part coming with another mentality and vibe.

I can't tell you why the literal " *Christian* Democratic Union" let so many extremist Muslims in (those that don't aggressive impose their beliefs or cause injuries are covered by the constitution), other than a lingering sense of guilt for our precursor… Reich. Well, I know perfectly integrated Muslims, but nowadays they form the minority.

Would be much nicer when you also do it in other cities that people have a picture about Germany and not only Munich.
Germany could be the best or one of the best place(s) for living on earth but the biggest problem with it is its language which takes decades to master. By the time you learn German well enough to understand spoken form of it without subtitles, you will have left your adolescence behind! Germany has always been a dream place for me to live (because I'm a car enthusiast interested in German Youngtimers!) but Deutsch is a massive barrier that never let me enter this great country. Wish all the people in the world could speak the same language and communicate much easier.
Try the Michael Thomas method. And the language isn’t really a barrier, if you’re serious about your dream!
@@wakeupcall2665 Thanks for your recommendation. Unfortunately, I have a hearing problem that sometimes makes it hard to even understand my first language let alone second or third languages! If people speak loud enough, I can understand them but most people tend to speak calmly and they get angry when you ask them to repeat (beg your pardon!) what they have already said!
@@Messergebnis-liebhaber your English is good enough that you shouldn't have too many problems learning German, after all German and English are close cousins... English is basically just a German dialect with a few bits of French, Latin and Old Norse thrown in. Try to see the two languages as one. My tip: look at the sounds and their equivalents in both languages. The English TH is equivalent to the German D. Thanks = Danke The = Der, Die, Das Think = Denken The English GH is equivalent to the German CH. Light = Licht Night = Nacht The English T is equivalent to the German S. Water = Wasser What = Was That = Das (there's the TH = D again) etc. etc. Once you've internalized this you'll have no problems learning German.

The truth is I have started learning German for a while (about 2 weeks and a half) and I know all the similarities between the two languages you mentioned above (they are both Germanic languages). I can make simple sentences in German now such as: Wie schnell fahren Sie? Können Sie bitte mir geben um etwas zu schreiben? So, yes I have already started studying German (I study about 3 - 4 hours per day). However, the main problems I face with are: 1) - Understanding spoken German 2) - Making sentences in German and German word order All the complexities of German grammar can be handled because there are rules to follow but the word order doesn't seem to follow any strict rules and verbs, subjects, adverbs and objects can switch their places in a sentence awkwardly! Maybe things get better during the process but I'm not sure!
@@Messergebnis-liebhaber Just hold on! 2-3 weeks are not much, it will take at least months, but you can learn any language. :) I've studied some languages in my life and the beginning is hard, but it will get better and better, but I guess, you know that. There are also videos like "Easy German", that might help at some point.

Nice video, als always. Now, being German and never really having lived anywhere else, I do not feel entitled to answer. I think, however, what may come up in the comments is the question of "general safety" - now, Munich is, undoubtedly, one of the safer major cities in Germany, and definitly one of the cleanest I have ever visited. :) However, I'd say that compared with other countries, general safety nationwide is not as bad as some Germans think it is. (Talking to expat co-students and co-workers was quite enlightening there). This is especially true for the countryside (even if burglary eg has increased over the past decades alongside with transit traffic). Eg, it is said that Mafia leaders frequently hide in the German countryside posing as decent Italian citizens - as no one would ever look for them there. (This is true for my former home town, at least, where such a guy for years was the neighbour and friend of the local chief of police...) But also if you take a look at big cities. There are always areas where one would not like to go alone, but I guess that is true for every city (Edit: almost everywhere in the world). I am a middle-aged (or well, a bit more than that) woman, and still feel safe using public transport during evenings in the larger cities of my area. And it's not Munich, btw. :)))
Yep, fully agree. After living in a London suburb for almost 2 years i appreciate the allnight public transport in my tow and around. Despite living just 30km out of London city, it was more or less impossible to get out of London late in the evening. So either you had a car or had to leave the city at 7pm latest. Alternatvely pay a taxi cab 60 quid. That was back when the Pound was at 1,60.
I come from eastern Europe and to me is life hier in Germany pretty uncomfortable, and the German people quite narrow minded and they have all the same opinions.

@@peter_meyer No there are seven political parties, and only one of them makes another policy ( AfD ) against the Establishment ( the other parties). That's why this party, which is making a different policy is being attacked, defamed and demonized, so that the Germans are afraid of it and although they are quite unhappy with the other parties, they don't vote for this one party. German people are extremely conform and obedient.
@@XYH03579 Interesting. I am quite sure that there is a lot of disagreement between Germans , but then - we tend to live in bubbles and avoid people thinking differently, at times. So maybe you are somewhat locked-in in the wrong bubble (for you)? Depending from where you live, it might be difficult to find another one - I was more successful via the internet (using forums, or fb-groups) than in real life, for sure.

Depends on the region in Germany. Munich in Bavaria is very particular in Germany.
You ask us Germans what could be better? Simples ... open your eyes, realise that every country/mentality has something beautiful to offer. Identify it, honour and embrace it!
Except everything which Germany has to offer are rabid institutional discrimination and general hostility in everyday lives.

Yes its very crowded & loud imo (I'm German), everywhere you hear and see people, cars, trains... wish it could be more like scandinavian countrys, Canada etc (more nature, less people)...and it only gets worse more and more people are coming here ... a lot of people dont care about others anymore listening to loud music on their phones in trains as if they are the only people there etc etc

Hello everyone here. Wish and hope you're good. Here is what i know. Germany is the perfect land for germans. Being an auslander, especially african- housing appartments are expensiiiiiiivvvves, taxes and health(itq true it helps) take 42% of ur salary. There are 23 millions of migrants there but they still complain about lack of laborers. Because language barrières. U have millions of talented and able migrants but on the streets,obliged C1 level for a job,having an appointment takes months. Really. And for the migrants that make it, they r just used to benefit the economy but how they been treated. They should regulise migrants situation there

Germany is good place to live. But Finnland is one of the most efficient country in my opinion. No bureaucracy, almost everything is digital, efficient transport systems.
My wife and I spent September 2011 in NYC ( Manhattan). In 2013 we spent September in Charlottenburg-Berlin. Germany was a better experience. Why? There was this feeling of physical security and an amazing history that was not self-congratulatory. If every country owned its history like Germany does, the world would be a better place. If you can respect a country then I respect Germany. PS I am only speaking for myself but my wife does not vehemently disagree. And I am certainly not knocking NYC, but, gee ,maintain your infrastructure !

As a Greek who grew up in Germany... its only good for the money. I am already planning to leave this country and return home and take a bit of a hit financially for actually having a beautiful country with warmer people or try Switzerland. Swiss people arent as cold as Germans.
