Sundays at the Chateau: DELICIOUS GEORGIAN CUISINE!!
Just before the start of lockdown in France, my great Georgian friend Levan came to visit us at the chateau. Aside from being an incredible professional clarinetist, he's also the owner of a fabulous Georgian restaurant, 'Batoni Khinkali' in Amsterdam. I persuaded him to show us how to make delicious Georgian specialities - khinkali (my favourite dumplings) and aubergine and walnut wraps.
To see more of the fabulous Levan:

And to find out more about his restaurant: / batonikhinkali
To cook these delicacies for yourself, here are recipes by a famous Georgian chef whom Levan recommends:

As soon as I get Levan's versions of the recipes, I'll post them here :)

It literally brings back my memories. When I traveled across the Georgia 🇬🇪 oh the food 🥘 was literally everything. And then you have the old medieval 🏰churches and historical monuments everywhere. What a beautiful culture they are! Bravo 👏🏻
Where does Stephanie keep finding all these gorgeous men who can cook?😍
She finds them in restaurants! How smart she is!
what a lucky lady she is.
Another stellar edition of Sundays at the Chateau. "Oh, this doesn't look good." And then you run away with the whole plate. Made me laugh so hard!! Stephanie, you're wonderful. And Mr. Georgia is extremely handsome!!
For those who are allergic to walnuts like me, I use chickpeas and make some sort of hummus to fill the aubergines with. Tastes also fantastic.
Hello Stephany. My name is Eliso(Elizabeth). I am from georgia (Imereti) . I have been watching this channel for a few month and have seen almost every series. I was very excited to see a Georgian food on your channel.. Khinkali and Khachapuri are the" visit card" of our country😊. Good luck to your channel❤. P.S. Hello mummy in South Afrika
Marie looked so good in this video, might be the light but she was GLOWING!
That guest should have looked at you while you were standing next to him instead of the camera person all the time . Stephanie ,you are so classy and polite. Full of life . Your home all made possible because of you! Nothing would be as it is if NOT for you. It is your home. You are so gracious to have so many people in your home.

Here in New Mexico we are in lockdown starting tomorrow again.need you more than ever im addicted to your beautiful channel thank you Stephanie!
I agree, same here in Seattle
I’m sure we will be heading that way soon in Montana, wish it was done daily.😊
Same in Indiana... Stephanie, you and the LaLanders are saving us...💗💗💗
Sending best wishes to you all from Tasmania, the little island at the bottom of Australia. We have been blessed with only a few cases and none in months. My heart goes out to you all as we see so many sad stories on the world news. Know that you are not alone in these terrible times, our blessings and best wishes to you and your families. Stay safe.

You can just tell that Levan was an adorable child. Blessings to his Mama because he must have been a hand full. Lol.
With new lockdowns left and right, I see Stephanie's subscribers rapidly approaching the big 100K 🥳
Hello from Georgia! Come visit when world is back to normal!!
God, I love those Georgian aubergine and walnut rolls! Tried making them myself this fall, turned out great!
Tip for peeling a pomegranate. Do it in big bowl of water, after cutting it in half. No mess at all and all the white bits float!
Genius! I never use them in recipes or smoothies because I didn't know how to easily peel them. TY
What about the seeds though - they aren't edible are they?
@@carriemoriarity5806 yes they are fine to eat! Unless you have colitis.....
@@deannairvine6123 I grew up eating them at Christmas (Baltimore, MD) but we always spit out the seeds!! So good to know!
Another way is to cut the pomegranate in half and hold it face down while tapping the outer skin firmly with a wooden spoon. All the seeds loosen and fall out very quickly.
I love Kat. She's great. Marie looks upset. Stephanie is subdued today. Love everyone at this chateaux Lock downs stink
Hmm I think Marie was feeling a bit pre-empted and the chemistry is (although subdued) between Stephanie and the Chef. Kat was doing an excellent job facilitating, filming and participating/learning. I am thoroughly inspired even though I don’t care for Aubergine, or too much dough. It’s got to be the right dough, and the mix of spices makes a huge difference as to enjoyment and healthy digestion, hence immunity. Anyway sooooo grateful for this quality content!!!
Marie hates when people are in the kitchen while she’s cooking.
@@nebula402 still it came off as a little standoffish and odd in this video.
I see from Levan’s Facebook page he plays the clarinet. So many talents.🙂
That is probably going to be a lot of peoples new go-to Xmas snack to present. Yum.
Only found this curious part of the internet and yet so obsessive with old chateaus
Welcome!
Welcome aboard. You would enjoy the older blogs as well, I'm sure. Most of us, if not patrons, let the ads run so as to help with restoration of the chateau and chapel
I am so happy and proud Georgian today. I can't wait to see another episode about Georgian cuisine in Lalande. I think chef Levani has lots of delicious food to share. I am so glad Stephanie loved visiting Georgia. Hope to see your vlogs from Georgia someday
What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
Thank you Lavan for sharing these delicious recipes with us all !! Also delicious was the running commentary from Kat and Stephanie XXX 🏰💙🏰💛
I want to try that aubergine for Christmas!!! And that went so fast.. today...!!! I could have watch for another hour or more!
You absolutely should! It's simply 'heavenly'😌 can't imagine Christmas and new year without it

Okay!! I’m getting so hungry watching this! It’s so true that the appeal of foods is visual, besides Taste and smell. One of the better things in our lives.
my father's relatives were immigrants from Czechoslovakia and my grandmother used to harvest wild mushrooms to make pidpenky dumplings , they look very similar to the mushroom ones , really interesting show thank you
These cooking demonstrations are really fun. When lockdown is over I would love to see someone come and do more French country cuisine...since this is coming from there. Some specialties from the area and the history of them would be great!
Cat’s new beau’s food looks delicious. I might even buy a recipe book of Georgian food and add it to my collection. 😄
I tried really hard to ignore your com ent BUT. .my curiosity is horrid. Is Kag dating this gtalented, handsome gentleman? If so, he is a lucky man.

Stephanie mentioned he was visiting with his partner - so sorry to ruin your gossip but he is not going out with Kat!
Every video gets better and better! Just so joyful, intelligent and entertaining! I'm going to try the recipes!!!
Happy delicious Sunday! After shoveling heavy wet snow today we are looking forward to grilled lamb, asparagus and tabouleh for dinner.
I was thinking that these are very like Chinese soup dumplings.
Yes, I agree very much so but boiled rather than steamed.
That was my first thought too. I also thought of a Thai Money bag too.
He said the name possibly came from the Mongolian empire - so they may have a similar origin.
They originated from Africa....not China or the Far East..... they then 'migrated' to North Africa, (in particular, the Arab speaking Countries), and were adopted by many Countries including Georgia, Albania & the former East European block.....but also Spain.....[OK, maybe I need another hobby in my life ☺]
Yes.. Like Shumai steamed dumplings..
Hi Stephanie..... not certain if you read these but I'm sure someone will be interested to know that the "Sauce", Levan was talking about.... (if I heard him correctly), is called Tkemali..... it is made from cherry plums...... so a Cherry Plum sauce...... the 'dumplings' are quite typical in most of the former East European Countries but are definitely delicious....... fattening, but delicious ☺
I'm a mix, my parents are of different ethnicities, so are my grandparents on both sides, and their parents, so on and so on, going back generations. My parents have different first languages to each other and to me, so does my grandparents. I've been taught traditions and recipes that nobody knows the origin of, just that they have been in the family a long time. I've made a similar dish several times, but never knew where it originated from. About the traditions, I've been taught that many things are offensive in different cultures. The problem is, nobody knows in which. So I know not to do many things, just not where they would be offensive.
another horrible trait of the 21st century, people are always 'offended' its inhuman and is causing people to simply stop communicating with others least they OFFEND. people need to get over themselves and lighten up, live and let live
@@Motherhubbard170 I think you need to lighten up. There is nothing wrong with cultural differences. Some gestures are similar to each other, but with a slight difference they turn offensive. Like asking someone to come to you with your hand palm up versus palm down (most of Asia), or showing the peace sign changes meaning when it's palm towards yourself (UK and most of Europe). In Bulgaria nodding and shaking your head has the opposite meanings. I've stumbled, said and done things that can be construed as rude, but I don't run away from it, I explain myself. Either why did I what I did, or why I was shocked by someones actions, and that has lead to interesting conversations and funny situations. If I accidentally offend someone, I apologize and explain myself instead of demand people to let go of their culture and traditions.
Thank you so much for this little taste from Caucasus. I know people from this area are so kind and their cuisine is so generous. I always remember my trip in Yerevan (Armenia). The people are so nice even they are really poor. Unfortunately on this area of the world there is so many problems. I remember of the grape leaves fill with meat and rice I eat in Yerevan. They call this dish Dolmas. It is absolutely delicious. The coffee on this part of the world is so tasty but it is really really extremely strong. Have you already drink some Oriental coffee ? The coffee is cocked inside the water and this mixing is served. Thanks for your adventures on your splendid château. I hope you will live many more happy adventures on your castle
I love Georgian cuisine, very easy to make it cruelty free
Thank for the wonderful performance in the La Londe Kitchen ! Most likely will make this one too for our Christmas this year ! 🙏👍
This is so much fun to watch. I'm also fascinated by the connection between the food and the linguistics of the region. Thank you for introducing us to this wonderful culture.
Wonderful!
Loving this guy, and Kat. I miss her.
Oh fabulous 👍🏻
There is a 70's US TV Show where the opening credit have a phrase that says "she can turn the world on with her smile". That surly is Stephanie Jarvis!! I love the "individuality" of each of Stephanie's house guest. Nati is very by the book, organized, timely and a bit OCD. She does well against Stephanie who is more free spirit in life (not sure why since her Mummy is not lol). Then you have Marie (not Nic's wife) who likes to be left alone with a quiet and spaces kitchen while cooking. Then theirs Steph.......free spirit, always late, love to love and laugh and is all over the place/world which is why over 100K just on KZhead love her so much. :-)
I agree apart from the “all over the place”. She is pretty focused and organised to be able to post a video of such high quality every day. Also, although all the others have their roles at the end of the day she runs the ship.
@@minnowx7099 i assume you are in England based on your spelling and you are 100% right. Plz. accept my apologies.
Could that 70’s US TV Show mentioned be “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”? Or could have been “That Girl”, which stared Marlo Thomas also in the 70’s. But, I agree Stephanie can turn the world on with her smile.

Oh foodie heaven tonight... I think I’ll have to make some tasty treats to eat while watching this one x
I'm sure those Georgian dumplings travelled from China at some point in history. They are referred to as soup dumplings, and usually made with pork or shrimp. Delicious ...
I agree. They remind me of Xiaolongbao dumplings
@@hanzkins6732 Thank you, I wasn't sure of their Chinese name!

The Cornish pasties had a thick edge crust that was not to be eaten because they were made for miners who would have coal dust, metals, grease, etc. on their hands. They held it by the edge and ate the rest:) I saw this in a travel show where they talked to a Cornish pastie maker.
Wow this was so amazing and please please please the recipe and I shall make it the very day I read it, congratulations to the chef pure joy xxx
