When US defeated Spain and took over as the colonial master of the Philippines in 1898, these two countries signed the Paris Treaty of 1898. In it, both countries acknowledged that the territories of Philippines lied EAST of east meridian 118. The island in dispute? It lies west of east Meridian 118! It is really that simple. Philippine did not grab these island until after the San Francisco Treaty of 1951, from a still-militarily-weak China. The root of all this is arrogance. Had China approached the Philippines with humility, offering a mutually beneficial strategic alliance, not only would they have secured the SCS, they would have had a launching pad for all their maritime activities in the region. They would have had a wall against a south-western assault from it's enemies. They also would have gained a strategic advantage over Japan, as well as uncontested access to Taiwan. Instead, they chose the route of the bully and tried to push aside the Philippines, knowing they had military superiority. Now they find themselves hated on all sides. Could they still win this conundrum? Maybe. But it would come at the cost of billions of dollars and soldier lives. They would also be essentially causing further economic turmoil on it's own citizens. They dropped the ball on this whole thing.
A simple warning and apology would have helped their image tremendously during the Wuhan virus pandemic. But they did not. Now everybody and their mother hates them.
China and humility are two words that should not be used in the same sentence. look up, "middle kingdom syndrome." The Chinese leadership have viewed themselves as the central pivot of the universe pretty much since the Mongols went native after invading. Even when occupied and bullied by Western Powers in the 18th & 19th century, they maintained the delusion of their imperial omnipotence.

It will happened. Those land are not belong to India. It was during the British empire that conquered it from China. After the Brit withdrawal, the Brit return those land they had captured to whom they have conquered. And those land not originally belong to India, India forcefully took it. China was very poor after the cultural revolution so they can’t take it back by force. Then in 1962 China reluctantly have to defence it right after numerous provocations from India. China when as closed as 50 km toward Delhi. And if it’s not Russia threatening China to stop, China would have overrun Delhi. Anyway today China had grew into a huge military powerhouse and its industries excellent is one of the most powerful ever in the history of mankind. so powerful that, USA fierce China could dethrone them.
