Making Discord Better (by breaking some rules)
Discord is a really basic social media platform that caters to people that struggle to turn on their computer. But, what if I could make Discord better by installing Discord client mods.
Using Discord plugins, I can add some interesting features. Free nitro perks, message logger, friend invites, and silent typing are all features that are available to use with Vencord. And yes, this does break Discord's TOS but it would be pretty difficult to get banned.

It's the same with people sending messages on FB and deleting them. It destroys chat continuity. And in cases where it's being abused to send harassing messages only to be quickly deleted... Once it hits my PC/Phone, the data is mine, they shouldn't be able to remotely modify it.

@@YAGBa free app yes and it does need money to operate, but having good PR is part of making money, making things more expensive and gatekeeping every feature behind very pricy subscriptions results in less subscriptions less users less money and then they make things more expensive or worse thinking it'll make things better to fix the losses

But do they suck so much that you wanna go to some random alternative website that pops up every other month to "take down" the big overlord social media and dies out again, just to send emojis you could simply post as a gif or stream your game of League of Legends in 4k? Probably not.

Ive never seen a company snitch on themselves harder than discord saying that BETTER DISCORD is against their terms of service
a note on the message loggers for images specifically, discord already caches all images sent to you and if the person deletes them discord DOES NOT delete the cache, so discord themselves have a message logger built into the app
It's not permanent nor accessible. If they delete their message, Discord staff can not see it. So if you report a message and it gets deleted nothing will be done.

Everything is saved on discords servers. Even if the user is banned. Wanna test it. Create 2 accounts. Send msg to each other. Delete one account. On the other account you can still see those messages sent between the first account and second account. It is still saved.
Even though Discord has a cache, it only works for images and they're only ever saved in a low resolution. They're also not easily accessible. Using a message logger is many times worse ethically speaking, as deleted content (even stuff sent accidentally such as personal info) is shown right to the person with a message logger. Plus, many who would use a message logger don't explicitly state it, which also violates another ethical and moral rule. If I paste something into discord and that has my location, I want to be able to delete it and remove it from the eyes of as many people as I can. I understand Discord will have it, and maybe the staff of the server, but that's a *lot* better than a couple people with message loggers that now have that information accessible for non-administrative purposes. tl;dr: only images are saved. you suck if you use a message logger. i dont want you having long-term access my personal info if i accidentally send it and delete it.

@@blewis42002 nawh, message loggers are honestly valid. It's a great way to not get fucked over if you get to know anybody who turns out to be a snake. Influencers should definitely use them. If you sent personal info by accident, that's on you. Especially on Discord with people you don't know, I can't even image how clumsy you would need yo be to do that with randoms.
Instead of adding obvious QoL changes, just ban people who add it themselves. Classic discord.

Making plugins won't get you banned unless it's a selfbot things or yeah bc there's a lot cases about it. Regular users who only chats, doing basic things as a discord user won't get banned. I used alliucord and i was never banned.
I love when my most used applications make simple quality of life changes against their TOS rather than embracing them and adding similar features. So fun.

The thing with message loggers as well is that MANY moderation bots utilize them. If they were truly against TOS, then an argument can be made to ban said bots as well.
Theres also a bot that logs every single message deleted, edited or sent in the chat

I feel like ages ago, qol features like these were added to stuff regularly, without needing anything external. Now 3rd party programs are the backbone of having a bearable experience with most programs.

That nitro bypass thing is pretty cool. All I want is to send emojis from different servers into a server I’m in, heck even WhatsApp allows you to send different emoji/stickers you have to one group. It’s the simplest thing behind a paywall
Damn huge probs to the Devs. Better Discord always felt a bit weird when it used to be popular and you had to download a lot of plugins manually but this actually looks like it was built-in from discord themselves. Also no useless features someone actually put thoughts into what makes sense.

@@ExOhzWell, for one, depending on the power of your PC and the browser you're using, the browser app can be much more resource-friendly, so there's a lower chance of it slowing your games and other apps down. I'm sure some Opera GX users actually use Discord in it for a reason, though for the record I'm not one of them. I use LibreWolf, a fork of Firefox, which seems to work much better for me in resources than Chromium in most situations.

All of these should just be regular discord features: Pin DMs, Friend Invites, Mute new guild, Better folders, Favourite emoji, No reply mention, Image zoom, Send Timestamp (omg manually making those is a pain), Voice Msg on Desktop
i remember when i first installed discord. it had barely anything. then competition came around what made them move away from minimalistic discord and now (or since a few years already i guess) we got vencord. felt rly good looking at all these features

The best thing about the translate plug-in is that you can type in English for example but when you hit send it will send it in the language you select.

If anyone is curious why they can't find Review DB (8:47), it's because it's now removed. The creators of Vencord were unable to keep it moderated and they sadly had to remove the feature

I’ve been using Vencord for a few months now and I love it. It’s very smooth and I haven’t noticed any slowdowns/lag (unlike when using BetterDiscord)
Yeah, BD has more customization with being able to easily add any plugin but vencord definitely feels better overall

@@Tom-101 They are not interested in improving the platform? The are working on their API, technical difficulties and the user experience on a daily basis and release monthly updates. They communicate with the users, listen to feedback and don't add stuff randomly without getting proper feedback most of the time. They are also doing the one thing that everybody is asking for since years: "Let us create our own experience" and you can do that by creating a bot. Discord is and will always be a user driven experience and imo everything except private and server text-/voicechat could be behinde a pay-wall. They have to host several MILLION servers. The technical skill needed to make everything run that smooth with this amount of data and requests is a masterpiece on it's own and the people and knowledge behind it costs a shit ton of money too. That's just the hosting and maintaining aspect of it... i've hosted a single api once, had roughly 1 million request per month and the server costs were ridicilous.. People like you don't understand shit and simply take a platform which costs millions of dollars to simply maintain as granted instead of actually thinking about what they get for FREE!

All the people losing their mind about "chat logger" really don't understand. Once you send it, it's out there. Some one can and will save it. You've given up that privacy perk the moment you sent that image out. Think before you send. Delete functions aren't that useful anyways unless it's for correcting dumb typos or other distractions. Delete isn't meant to protect your privacy, its just a convinience.

Literally 3 of those plugins sold it for me. Translate, PinDMS and EmojiCloner are enough for me to use Vencord x) Just a bit of QoL is always welcome.

People care about message loggers as a privacy concern but don't care about discord telemetry which stores everything they say/write. We live in a society...
It's way different when administrative people do it vs some terminally online stalker or credit card skimmer bot, etc, laying in wait for sensitive info to yoink for nefarious purposes. Or even a Karen that stores every little thing someone says just to constantly or wait to bring it up several years later as soon as it benefits them. Don't even begin to pretend discord recording is the same. Millions of texts fly through their servers every minute. They're not bringing attention to any individual message unless it specifically gets pointed out to them. Administrative purposes.

Know where you can bypass the customization restrictions? In the browser. But why in the browser? To insert user style sheets, of course. Using CSS, and a script injector, you can then create your own themes.

Man, the edit logger is probably the best feature never added to Discord. Unfortunately I'm not looking to lose my account so I'll just assume anything with (edited) is incredibly sus.
You wont lose your account with clients like BD or whatever this is. My friends and I have been using things like this for half a decade and our accounts are all fine, I haven’t known a single person to ever get banned for it. Even if you post images of it in big servers, no one cares really even cares.

in theory ir is against the ToS although discord has said it is for security reasons, using a 3rd party client nay compromise your account. In practice it is extremely rare for someone to be banned from discord for using it
They will probably start banning for streaming in source quality without nitro because it directly hurts them. Streaming stuff is expensive.

Any idea how I enable transparency? There is a setting for it in BetterDiscord, cant find such an option tho in Vencord. My transparent themes dont work in Vencord, there is always a grey background color. Also tried using custom css for transparency. Works flawlessly in BD.
I think message loggers are fine unless that info is being sent to a third party. But for legal disputes or whatever its far better than taking a million screenshots. I dont use one though. I dont plan on ever getting in a legal battle over discord. But I also dont use slurs like some people do on discord so I get why they dont want a logger.
Idk how to feel about the plugin that lets you stay in calls forever. Like, sure, I get it, but Discord implemented the auto-kick for a reason. To save bandwidth.
ehh at this point i dont think it really matters. you can join a call in a server with nobody in it and stay in it as long as you want. if they really cared they would kick you in server calls as well.
To save what bandwidth? Nothing is being transmitted if there's noone else inside the call.

There should be a feature that allows you to screen share with a private call / friend whilst in a voice channel on a server with others. if i want to share my screen to a friend whilst raiding for example, its just not possible :(
This is helpful if your a mod in a server and they dont have a bot that documents deleted/edited messages and those people pinging you for non emergencies

Id be more interested to see if it's actually 4k - 60, I think that is a server side feature to be honest if like you see it from a viewers perspective.

"MuteNewGuild" is beyond helpful for me. Im so sick and tired of having to mute the server and read all messages until there arent any notifications left in a new server every damn time I join a server
I used to use betterdiscord but recently I switched to this and it’s so much better!
Yeah, i currently use betterdiscord. But Vencord seems like way less of a pain in the ass.

Can you get your account banned for using Vencord?
My main discord account got hacked a few months back and Discord still refuses to help me. I lost my server along with my account, because of that I learned to always have a backup account as the server owner. So I'm not concerned at all with getting banned on my new accounts. I will never pay for nitro again and this seems like a nice solution.
Out of curiosity, how do you set up that account so that it can actually keep ownership? If some Virgins care enough, they can take over your server and just strip the roles away
As a Mac user, just that amount of customization blew my mind. Now I want a custom client for everything (than I remember I am on MacOS ;-;)
