  • Fischer was becoming a star in the chess world when he became a grand master at age 15. He was quick to notice, when he would go to a chess tournament, he would always win, get a trophy and a very small percentage of the take, whereas the organizer would take the lion's share. So he let it be known that if the winner's share was not much, he would not show up. The organizers realized they had to increase the share because when Fischer said he wasn't going to come to a certain chess tournament and why, the attendance was a tiny fraction of what it could be. So the winner's share was greatly increased. This meant the difference between Fischer staying in a motel instead of a five star hotel. Before Fischer came on the scene, tournament chess players winners did not make much.

    • Yes! Which is why he almost didn't show to play Spassky in the 1972 World Championship. His demolishing of his opponents in the Candidates tournament was a statement that he not only had been the highest rated player for years, but that he was unofficially the best player in the world. Being a world champion to him meant little if the prize money didn't fit the accolade.

    • The true beauty of chess is the enormous complexity after the standard 10-15 moves. Rapid chess allows the players to get into the "deep think" part of the game quickly. At this point it's no longer a memory game, but thoroughly taxes the brain to perform extremely complex computations. This is why computer chess programs can beat the best human chess players on the planet. ♟️

  • I remember these well. I used to play lots of chess. I have used those opening moves many times. Both white and black. The opening with King pawn two spaces is to use Queen early. But it can also be too aggressive at times

    @buffalorick5598@buffalorick55989 ай бұрын
    • It is not to use the queen early. The main purpose of pawn to e4 is to occupy the center and open up the diagonals for the bishop. Pawn to d4 also is to occupy the center however it leads to more strategic closed games. Pawn to e4 leads to more open sharp tactical games. Opening basic principles are occupy the center ,develop your pieces and castle king to safety. Bringing the queen out early in most cases is not a very good move but there are exceptions.

    • Shay~ If you look at this final position, Bobby was going to clean the board with his rook. It then would have been a rook and 2 pawns against a knight. At this high level of play, the end is obvious, and Bobby was going to win. Most impressive at this age. Bobby would then go on to be the greatest chess genius in the history of the world. Sure, people will debate that, but, in my expert opinion, Robert James Fischer was the zenith of genius- right next to Albert Einstein. ♟️
