We Visited 5 Countries Close to Ukraine | What is it Like to Travel Nearby a War?
From Germany via Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary to Rumania - that's the route our two DW reporters Shabnam Surita and Laila Abdalla took. They travelled all the way through Central and Eastern Europe to find out how the Russian war against Ukraine is affecting tourism in its neighboring countries.
And Shabnam and Laila also show you what not to miss in cities like Prague, Budapest and Bratislava.

DW Travel is showing you the captivating world of travel. Come along with us to regions and cities in Germany, throughout Europe and to far-away destinations.
#ukraine #prague #budapest
With that title, I thought that you will choose some cities nearer the border with Ukraine. You went as far west as possible 😂 You can still go to cities near the border, they are safe. In Romania, you can visit the Maramures region, also the Bucovina region, both on the north border with Ukraine, or in the summer the Danube Delta, on the eastern border with Ukraine.
Yes, thats like when Americans go to Mexico never leave the Resort and say they saw Mexico
Hahahaha that's what I thought! Would be interesting if they visit Nyíregyháza or Rzeszów
Czechia is not any more a neighbouring country to Ukraine than Germany is.. So, travelling there is about the same as Berlin, I guess..?
Maybe they take Kralovec (Kaliningrad) joke seriously 🤣
It’s interesting to realise that the frontline is as far from Wrocław as is… Barcelona. But still, tourism was affected big deal, especially people from Spain are afraid of coming to Poland, Romania, Slovakia. I say: it’s safe, come visit, this supports us and indirectly Ukraine that we try to support on daily basis. And you will be part of great history, how often can one say that.
I love Polish people they are the kindest people who extend help to the Ukrainian refugees.. just want to say a big thank you
Prague and the Czech Republic surely isn’t effected, we are so far away from there, it is actually much closer to France or Switzerland from Prague, than to Ukraine
Even with all of the refugees?
@@matthewrybnicek yeah 😂 the geographic location is still the same
I was to Kraków yesterday and it isn't affected at all. Life is just as usual here.
Except we have about 350k Ukrainian refugees in CZ, 100k in Prague alone. But of course girls could not find out in Rikshaw in the historic center on PRG:):):) Love this report, so funny way to milk the emloyer by being creative with the title:)
@@matthewrybnicek There was a big Ukrainian minority here even before the war started. Something about 160k from what I have found. Most of Czechs don't really have any problem with that, as they are well integrated into our society
I knew a few Chicagoans of Czech descent, I like your video. Great scenes.
Since Russia is at war too, you could have also visited North Korea and Norway, both of which are bordering it ...
The report seems like somebody wanted to do fun trip funded by the employer, so they put '...in times of the war in Ukraine' sticker. Fantastic way to milk the employer- respect for creativity:)) I guess next report will be 'how the Seychelles beach life is impacted by the war in Ukraine', or 'Las Vegas without rich Russian gamblers';) Go girls!!
I see Laila , i click and like ❤ Awesome video ! Loving this Series !
Nicely done! Really enjoyed the journey and video. :)
Thanks!
@@DWTravel You guys should definitely tour Saint Petersburg Sochi, Kazan, Volgograd, Ufa, krasnoyarsk, Omsk, Tyumen, Samara Nizhny Novgorod and Moscow it's very beautiful cities in the World..... 🇷🇺❤️🇮🇳
Looks great. I am ready for more travel
I see you stayed far away from the eastern borders......!
Even if they visited the very east of it, it would be safe. All those countries are Nato member states for a reason
I love the knomes!!!!!
Yaaay, at 6:08 Karlin! Dva kohouti! So you walked past my previous apartment :D
People doesnt understand that war is only in ukraine which is too far for everyone so nobody is scared or anything😂
It is a good travel video without those "travel in a time of war" caption because you didn't even go close to the Ukrainian border!!!
Sooo beautiful especially in a time of crisis like in Ukraine! ✨✨ Hope that when the war is over, Ukraine and its neighbors will come together to restore the European power it once held.
what a lovely couple
You go to capitals of central European countries and ask if Ukraine affected them. No they didn't, they aren't even near Ukraine. And 3 capitals do not give you a realistic impression of a country. Kinda pointless from a news perspective but I'm sure it was fun.
..LOVE YOU SHABNAM !! ..💝🌹
The various travel restrictions are still confusing to USA/Canada, and probably more restrictive to thinking about travel than Ukraine.
The statues of "dwarfs" isn't actually dwarfs what you think they are Ludkové or permoníci from Western Slavic mythology, they was very close to the humans cities and even citizens of towns and tribes , they are not like dwarfs from Germanic mythology who hide themselves but like more visible and helpful for households 🇨🇿🇵🇱🇸🇰 ( also sorbians 🇩🇪)
In Polish skrzat, gnom and krasnal are synonyms. Gnom is rather used in mean context the other two are hiding but rather not close to houses and secretly helping good people at work, but are also mean to bad ones hiding/stilling things from them. Krasnals are a bit more often accused for bad things ;) The word skrzat has an Old Germanic etymology, krasnal is from the Old Slavic, gnom is from Latin.
@@Pandzikizlasu80 the name have nothing to do with it, i meant the creatures it self it even have page on Wikipedia Ludkové and Permoník
wow~ nice video! u have discovered 3 countries that I would like to visit as a digital nomad. May I ask, which is the cheapest to visit among Poland | Czech | Hungary? If I could only visit one of them, which is best option for a digital nomad? Thanks~
Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic sorted from cheapest. Greetings from cz
@@11spaggy Thanks, this is so useful
Romania has the best internet and is the most Americanised. And the only with real Latin alphabet
do something directly related to ukraine instead of just using it in a title please
The video gave me an idea to put in place a proper itinerary of Central Europe. I intend to add Slovenia as well. Krokaw , ceske krumlov would have been interesting addition as well. Madam Shabnam Sarita , you have strong eastern Indian accent. Are you from Bengal?
Hi Rishi, thanks for your appreciation for our video. And yeah, you guessed right! Shabnam does have her roots in eastern India. She was born in Assam and grew up in Kolkata, in a Bengali family!
how could you skip Austria/Vienna? 😒
Yes, 1 hour from Bratislava.
We here spell Rishshaw
God this video is so cringy.
Olá! Eu sou do Brasil. Vcs são muito simpáticas. Adorei o video.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I hv doubt ?? Is travelling free in Europe for Ukrainian refugees??
@Franz Khan Have a look here for more detailed Information 👉 eu-solidarity-ukraine.ec.europa.eu/information-people-fleeing-war-ukraine_en#paragraph_328
10% od Ukrainians was before war. Now i think it is around 33%
😀😀😀😀""So funny'x x ....you can go even in the Romanian territories stolen by URSS ..wich are in Ukraina today and you will be safety ..
This is so stupid 😄😄. Its more secure than let's say Paris or London
Non of these cities are close to Ukraine border at all
I haven't seen such a disrespectful video for a while. Travel "nearby the war" while you stay hundreds of kilometers away and show just generic stuff what western rich tourist would do. DW and Germany is truly a world of tolerance and mutual respect... It only revaels the true german colonial thinking that all of those coutres are just lands to devide between Berlin and Moscow.
Bruh they went to capitals mostly to see how the influx of refugees etc is affecting the city. It's a click bait title but not that hard of a concept to grasp
Nice video but in my opinion only Dhruv Rathee creates amazing videos.
Since I'm a self-curious traveller I want to visit Ukraine and I will be doing it someday after they win the war.
Come
NOT "from the Ukraine" - just from Ukraine (it's 2022! ending!) The Ukraine conflict ... 🤦♀ the editor of DW - where are you? Too much beer?
It's the Ukraine CONFLICT, so it's "the conflict"
@@dav2ry7 It's a WAR
Um... what an absolutely useless report.
You guys didn’t do good job
This was lame stuff😢😢
Been to some cities you have visited ladies. Glad you enjoyed your trip. Just in case you are not aware, Orban of Hungary sides with Putin in this war. So we are hoping EU and NATO will kick them out They do not contribute and EU gives them money to help. It is very important that we support Ukraine otherwise the cities you have visited will part of russia federation
I hope my country gets kicked out of the EU. Orban has the right policy in this war
Australians arnt affraid to travel ..its just the ridiculous airfares at the moment
