I’d argue Tony Ferguson’s win at 216 is one of the only meaningful interim championships just cus Conor never returned. He was basically the lightweight champion at that time

Renan Barao is probably the only legitimate interim champion I've seen. With Dominick Cruz unfit to fight and the UFC unwilling to strip him for inactivity, Barao actually did what an interim does, he defended the belt while the champion was unable to compete. When Cruz got injured yet again after they were set to unify it, enough was enough and he was promoted to undisputed. Every other interim just felt like a promotional tool to rescue some watered down card, a fuck you to the guy currently holding the belt or unwillingness to strip their cash cow who refused to defend.

Interim titles should be reserved for injured title holders, even then only if they have a reasonable return time frame. The fact they create them to boost a card because A) the champion is chasing money fights or B) they refuse to pay the champion accordingly is absolutely preposterous! It takes the prestige of being a champion as badly as it does in boxing.

Don't you guys agree that an Interim Title is pointless? It literally means number one contender, and even guys like Tony and Colby didn't get a title shot when they were Interim champs. What's the point of being an Interim Champ when there is the real champ sitting at the top? Then if you don't beat the champ when you are the interim champ it'll all be just a waste honestly.

While I understand the criticism interim titles fights get, some of the best fights I've seen were interim title fights. And they went all 5 rounds. It would've sucked stopping them at 3
Simple, make all top 10 fights 5 rounds. A fake belt shouldn't make a difference to how good the match is. If a champ cant or wont defend the title in a decent amount of time they are stripped of title and the 2 top ranked contenders fight for the title. If the ex champ had to vacate because of injury they get first shot when they come back
