You could uses two opposing mouse traps facing outward (so the bar moves toward the wing tip) as the base structure for the wings, and double the torque available. Attach them to a drive shaft parallel to the "fuselage, and incorporate the propellers themselves as a gear by putting a ring around the them attached at the wing tips.

same here, but just pick up pen and paper, start drawing ... kick start without expectations, soon you'll be on it again.
I'm no rocket surgeon, but it looked as if your wings had too much area dedicated to stability at the expense of lift. That is, reducing stability would allow you to have more lift for the same wing weight and drag - or the same lift from a lighter and less draggy wing. Just my unedjumikated observation. Fun to watch all the same.

To be continued.
i belive you could optimize the torque output by guiding the string, using a semicircular guide attached under the mountingpoint of the string on the trap. That way you can make sure that the force of the moustrap always engages in rectangular fashion, making the most of its torque
you should make a ceiling fan powered airplane.

Make a 1 through 6 mouse trap powered boat, i'd love to see that work. I'd also love to make a fragile thin paper winged airplane, that is something they should teach in physics and engineering classes for kids who want to go into Aerospace engineering
1:17 is a life pro tip
I love this channnels, because I love watching the wooden planes fly around. xD Subbed about an hour ago!
You would get more power from your mouse trap if you take out the short end of the spring and give it more tension by turning it more and then installing it back in place. That will make the mouse trap super strong. It would probably cut the mouse in half. But for your plane will mean more torque.
When our house gets invested whit mice or rats i'm going to molest them whit the super strong mouse traps
Nice, M.I.T. just made a plane like this with an Ion drive so it has no moving parts, pretty interesting.

WHY DOES YOUR DOG HAVE A FULL BODY CAST
Use the stored energy of the mousetrap more efficiently by incorporating the use of rubber band instead of a string when connecting the lever arm to the axel.
You guys are awesome. What a collection of tools/toys you have to play with. Toy envy!!!!
Spring powered F1D!
joshuawfinn use a rat trap cause they have more power behind them you could cut out the inside wood like you did with the mouse trap and the aren’t much thicker so if you really had to u could shave a some of the bottom of with a sander or planer would recommend sanding as it’s a safer more controlled result
If you could use two mousetraps, you could've had one with a low gear ratio that gets the plane moving, while the second mousetrap has a high gear ratio that begins to speed up as the low ratio mousetrap is going. By the time the first (low) mousetrap is done, the second, higher gear ratio mousetrap will be spinning fast enough to propel the plane farther and faster.
"I think what we're gonna do is tinker and document what is happening." Two seconds later: "Okay so I know I didn't really document this..."
The thrust vectored plane might be one of the most elegant things I've seen, ever. Very Miyazaki.
Sorry for making you late to the fly in 😆 Nice job Peter/Sam. You guys crushed it, awesome project. 💯💯 Actually, it was a blast to watch fly with the UMX guts.
FliteTest FIRST also I watch all your vids and love them!
Add more mice traps more speed an extra prop otherwise a two prop plane
flite test you have to do this but on a biger scale with rat traps not mouse traps.
@@jamesdavidson8278 The ideal setup would be 2-4 traps per propeller and 2-4 propellers depending on the configuration. If you could get enough weight off the mousetraps it might even be feasable, the issue with dual or quad prop though is if you can't control the speed that will it will yaw and roll uncontrollably
He meant "You guys crushed it(literally)"
This has to be the best opening I've ever seen to any video xD

Make a submarine on the lurzbot and a bit of drain pipe Also get an a8 and review it they are actually really good I made both the life boat and the hovercraft on it (Thingiverse madRCmodeling)

As someone who's owned 7 different printers ranging from $100-$1200, I'd recommend spending some time with a nicer printer and see what you think then. I was super happy with my cheap printers till I got a used original prusa i3 mk2s, and now I've had cheap printers ruined for me forever. My biggest advice, if you enjoy 3D printers, is keep an eye on your local Craigslist and other marketplaces (Facebook, kijiji, etc) for used printers. I've seen MULTIPLE i3 mk2 and mk3's for less than $500. Happy printing!
CR Ender 3 isn’t going to crack on you like laser cut acrylic though
I own an unimportant piece of history.. Velleman K8200 It started at 900€ over 5 years ago.
Go check out rapidnadion, they did that and it is great
Beautiful idea and ingenious manufacturing..
Position the mouse trap so that the axis of the propeller is coaxial with the axis of the spring coil. You will have to reconfigure how you transfer the power from the mouse trap to the input shaft, but it should be more efficient because the power transfer will be constant through the full range of the mouse trap arm.
0:01 now that’s a lot of damage
Lol
Fix it with Flex Tape!
Thats what I thought he was gonna say
How about a little more
Hey you guys should try to make a flying submarine that can still go underwater

Awesome video! Thanks.
Dude , you are one of my most favourite youtubers ! Please , keep up effort for such videos .
I don’t know why but I had a very strong feeling that this video was filmed at night.
If you guys revisit this concept, or for anyone else that wants to play with mousetrap planes....research how to build indoor props. The ones shown here look like they lack the proper twist to make them efficient. Also, rather than playing with a gear box and all that, try driving the prop directly off the prop shaft. This will increase the prop rpm. To counter that, build a larger diameter (like 18-24 inch) prop, of Larrabee design for a 2:1 P/D ratio. This video and concept are great. I have a feeling it would have worked far better had some research been done into efficient props as opposed to the TLAR/RC prop methods. RC props are built for high RPM, and relatively low efficiency. That is fine, because most RC planes have plenty of power to maintain flight. But when power is limited, you need to maximize prop efficiency. That’s where the Larrabee shapes come into play. Larrabee did the props for the first successful human powered aircraft, and his designs are still used in indoor and outdoor free flight, human powered vehicles, full scale aircraft, and even electric generating windmills. Have fun, keep experimenting
"..Buuuuuuuuuut... *mousetrap snaps* ow." I was waiting for it XD
That one super clumsy friend 😂
16:55 It's not really about the efficiency of the energy conversion. It's a matter of how much usable energy is stored. Not only do the rubber bands have a lot more usable stored energy, it also has orders of maginuted higher energy to mass ratio.
That poor injured dog was always having a plane thrown in it's direction, when he was on the couch and 11:07 he moves across the room and the plane follows xD
Amazing man, you are very talented
Basically a good video, as basically always. Thanks and stay safe ✌️
Awesome! One thought. When wet forming the prop blades, set them at an angle rather than straight down the length of your bottle/pipe. Should make for a more efficient pitch advance ratio across the span of the prop.

Could you get more production from the trap itself in a push configuration? Maybe better balance if the heavier part in the middle of the plane? (ex. CGS Hawk style for reference)
Oh, this sounds like a fun project
Tighten spring more turns, before connecting lever for more energy.

5:15 "Hang on, I was in the middle of a montage."
Would it be possible to make the mouse trap slapping thingy turning 360° instead of 180° by taking out half of the wooden board?
but at what point does it cease to be a mousetrap? You could remove most of the wood trap bits and just use the spring.
@@raymondo162 yeah, that's true, idk, i think it would still be interesting even though it wouldn't be a mouse trap
@@raymondo162 perhaps what we need is to demonstrate the mousetrap-ability of the airplane by showing that it can catch a mouse! There are all kinds of mouse trap designs, perhaps a new design must be invented that can be turned into a plane!
