    • Boeing can't make electric planes because they make huge planes either for cargo or passengers and sadly electric isn't as powerful as jet fuel

    • The energy potency is much higher in gas than a battery. If you magically turn all the power from a battery into it's equivalent in gas, it would be much less. You can take much less room and weight, or you can go electric. However, I do wonder why they don't use solar panels on the large planes as they would be right up there with the sun as they cruise above the clouds. That might help IDK but it's still not allot and it's an inconsistent variable. Just trust the experts.

  • I'm looking at 70 next year. But I really enjoyed watching this. It reminds me how much fun flying ultra lights (weedhopper's, rally II, even a bi-wing, etc on our family farm with my brothers has been. You learn, have fun, and expand your knowledge. Great video, descriptions, and your thought process was all great. I wish you well in all your endeavors. I feel renewed that your generation does have some practical thinkers out there.

    • Not Really crazy, he's a model builder, so he builds using standard construction practices and designs. Full size plane plans are shrunk down to build models, and small models of full size aircraft are built to test designs. Most plans scale up and down easily, and Peter builds to FAA rules and guidelines for homebuilt aircraft.

  • Good job son. I'm an 80 yrs old retired bush pilot. I'm old school and would rather be flying a Legal Eagle with combustion or electric power. I trust the tubular air frame. Also would prefer a pusher like a Kolb. Be less high speed bugs in your mouth. Safer prop area and better ground clearance. I'm intriged about your cover material. I built a composite called the Rand's KR2 great little plane. Keep on trucking and stay safely rational as you are. You will live longer. 😅😅 Dandahermit

    • Remind your instructor that every plane flies low and slow. It is called landing. Perfect landing is to stall the plane simultaneously to reaching zero altitude.

    • @@ChucksSEADnDEAD the first part of my comment was a joke. The deal with most ultra lights is that the cruise speed and landing speed are not that far apart. I cant remember the model, but I remember one where the cruise speed was 40 and the landing speed was 25.

  • we used to fit spoilerons on top of the outer wing which acted just like ailerons. which would give you full 3 axis control. great build!

    • @@bjboss1119 No, they are basically a flat plate covered with the same material as the wing about 4"x 2' or so hinged by sewing to the wing along the front and placed at the highest point of the wing profile. they are pulled up like a air brake. this spoils the lift on that wing causing it to drop and so you have a bank. the airflow keps the spoileron against the wing during normal flight

I'm sure you thought of this already..and wondering: could, or do you have really heavy duty bungee cords or straps attached to your planes frame and harness in case of a hard landing or flip over type impact..which hopefully never happens, but should soften an impact.? It seems it could really make a big difference in the outcome.
