Thank you for not talking or putting music over the beautiful sounds of the V12's. All the music I need.
Thanks watching and your comment
Yes, thank you, sincerely, for letting us here those amazing motors.. . . music!
I knew a guy who owned a P-51, he was a surgeon, and before he would land he would always do a low pass. The sound of that engine gives me goosebumps.
Here! Here!!!!
My sentiments exactly.
Both the Bf-109 and P-51 were flying works of art.
Thx
@@Warbirds no problem anytime
...YES THEY WERE BRO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jack Tangles no the spitfire was worse, it’s not better just because it’s made by England
@Jack Tangles In terms of characteristics?
Both are beautiful birds! The Mustang is sporty, the BF 109 looks more dangerous. Both sound awesome!!!
Thx for watching
Classic America back then, no?
The mustang have better visibility in the cockpit which is excellent in dogfighting.
Steve Martin I think up to the G model, but the K definitely kicked ass!
Well said. The camo paint scheme says I’m here on deadly business. While the flashy paint scheme on the 51 says I’m here to race.
The sound of the Bf 109’s DB605 never gets old!
Yes. That sound have conquered all Europe, bombed England and half of Russia... Unforgettable sound!!!

It's amazing that these 80 year old planes look and run so well. In their design processes, I'm sure that no thought was put into "looking good", they were designed for pure functionality. Funny how something honed to ultimate performance inevitably can look beautiful.
True !
Form follows function. An ultimate principle of beauty.
They have become art in their own way

Initially General Eisenhower was going start with an Airborne Assault before the Armor and infantry initiated their attack! He decided to leave Berlin to the Russian because of 2 reasons. 1st Reason: General Eisenhower sympathized with Russian soldiers and civilians suffering when Leningrad, Stalingrad and Moscow was under siege and surrounded by the German (payback). He emphasized with the many Russian sacrifices and death in their defense! He also felt that the Russians should be the first ones to capture the city of Berlin! 2nd Reason: General Eisenhower understood the calculation and the possibility of many Allie forces casualties especially the surmountable death on Military both side and countless Civilian death! He also needed the soldiers fresh and ready for possible invasion of Japan! US and UK did bomb Berlin!!!

TPAKTOPEHKO they look Brand new .,awesome
Gave me new appreciation of the 109's. Knew they were awesome. Embrace them. But it is the P-51 "D" that still holds my fascination. For several decades a veteran pilot, living a couple miles south of me, owned one and flew it from a private airfield to our north. He'd fly the Invasion Day bar marked shiny Mustang south to go over his own neighborhood. Meant I could hear him coming and stop everything I was doing. Hear the Doppler tone rise as he neared, see him, watch him bank over his neighborhood, sometimes exiting directly over me, sunlight glistening off the skin, the Doppler effect now receding, the love of that P-51 D reinforced once again. P.S. My fraternal uncle spent the war in Texas. At age 13, well before WWII, had gotten his private pilot's license. With his headstart, he spent the war teaching pilots, the last years teaching combat pilots to fly P-51's! My legacy. My favorite aircraft ever.
Call me crazy, but my favs are P-51B's in olive drab, Bf-109G5's in a sort of purple camo, and any FW-190 flying with JG54, especially in the spring. Nowatney! 8-)
That Daimler-Benz engine is too amazing, the shrill spool up gives me goosebumps.
Thats the turbo-charger kicking in :>
@@ghostarashide227 Bf109 did NOT have a turbocharger. they are exhaust driven, it had a mechanical super charger. the only 2 fighters of WW II that had TURBOchargers feeding the supercharger, a 2 stage unit were the American P38 and the P47...B17 and B24 bombers had a similar system.......get your terminology straight !!!!
The Mustang is more sporty but sound of the Bf109 is unbeatable.
I like the canopy on the P 51.Modern for its time and the plane has nice lines, but that BF 109's sound.Oh man!
Along with the spitfire and Zero , these planes were beautiful works of engineering . I hope they all keep flying to show the world what once was.

The wide undercarriage of the P51 made it more suitable for use in just about any kind of terrain. It could literally land in a farmers field, be resupplied and take off again to continue the fight. An impressive display of a fighter design that proved itself many many times over. Not to mention how good looking it is too of course.
Thanks to our English cousins for the Merlin engine, which made the Mustang a proper fighter. Still love the 109, though!

I love the 109. And the Focke-Wulf 190D, and the Do-335. The Germans made the coolest and fastest planes of the war, without doubt.
The P-51D was faster, I believe. And had a vastly longer range.

Its incredible that there was over 30,000 109's built yet there are so few left. You'd think there should be 500 left flying around. Of course there was that whole war thing...........
All shot out of the sky...
@Солнцевская Братва True, that could be the case if it was a low altitude 1 v 1 fight. But remember, the P-51 mainly escorted bombers during the war and its engine provided the needed altitude performance and manifold pressure to keep that going, as well its high octane fuel; something the Bf 109 lacked.

We must remember that both aircraft were created at different times during the conflict of WWII, and pre war conflicts. That being said, the pilot has much to do with hunter vs the hunted. Both aircraft are flying artworks, but my heart will always favor the Bf-109 family. This is just my preference! Danke!

These 2 birds frequently fought against each other during the war so the comparison is valid.
@@emersoncaicedo3146 the level of training varied greatly between the two countries, one was on the decline the other on the rise. The Experten continually grew their "kills", while the "green horns were lucky to survive the first encounters with the P-51. In the hands of such pilots as Hartmann, Bakhorn, and others, the Bf-109 was still considered a deadly foe, hence the comparison of hunter vs hunted. Salutations.

@@bluefox9436 I never said it wasn't. The k4 was too late in the war to make a difference. That being said, the k4 did fight against the p51d and it was superior to the p51d. Beautiful! Where is the Spitfire?
Great video, two awesome warbirds. Wish I'd been there to see them in person. I have to somewhat disagree with one statement... They said the 109 was one of the most advanced designs of the Era. That's only partly true. It was very advanced when it was introduced in the 1930s, but the demands and advances of the war saw the 109 becoming almost obsolete by 1944. Many aircraft, British, American, and German, were far more advanced in design and aerodynamic technology than the venerable Bf109. Again, great video, great sounds.
And still is the Fighter With More Confirmed kills in the history of the Air Warfare
The 51 looks like a racing plane ie to win races. The 109 looks like a war machine. A plane designed to kill other planes. Hard to believe it was kicking ass in Spain, well before the BOB/WW2.
That's exactly what I thought, though not necessarily a sports plane. The P-51 looks more elegant and clean, while the 109 looks mean and ready for war. If I saw both planes coming at me while on the ground, I'd be more scared of the 109.
Both are awesome! What sounds. P-51 has the advantage of later technical knowledge from companies that were not being bombed every day.

What a blast I had as a kid back in the early 60's when they had plastic model airplanes of these, I think by Revell. Testors, glue and paint, and bunches of parts so it wasn't just a snap together. Mustang, P-38, Spitfire, Hellcat, Daunless, Douglas, Thunderbolt, F-4U Corsair,, Zero, Komet, Folke Wolf, Dornier, B-24, B-17, B29 etc etc.
Even though I'm British and I love merlins, not gonna lie but the sound of the DB gives me chills
KnifeSmith wasn't a bad name for something that cut through the air..lol (messer=knife schmitt=smith)
what plane is that, behind and left of the 109, at the beginning of the video?
Two seater Bf109 G12
Are those authentic 109s? Just curious as the countries that lose wars tend to have most of their inventory destroyed. Here in the states, I've only seen a real Heinkel bomber (don't remember which variant) and a 2/3 scale replica Stuka. This year at WWII Weekend in Reading, Pennsylvania, I saw my first real Japanese Zero. Well, real body, but newer engine. Still pretty close.
These are the real Planes
P51 styling almost looks like a toy plane obviously for aerodynamics versus the older more square rugged hunter look of the BF109.
The bf109 Looks more menacing
Alleswasspassmacht agreed. Iv’e always thought the bf109 has a wolf like appearance. Lol
The p-51 performed well against th bf-109, but it doesn't have that intimidating "black knight" look
I think that P51D looks too nice as for warplane. Bf109 looks like machine made for war
@@corvus8752 I agree, and the 109 is more nightmare-inducing in a dogfight
Erich Hartmann( 352 shoots), even though on the eastern front, shot down 7 Mustangs. But unlikely not ever Luftwaffe Pilot was a Erich Hartmann..Most of them was at the end neebies and had not really a chance. Also the numbers were 1:15..
Don't know for sure, but some sources claiming, that many of those "kills" come from aicrafts destroyed on the ground-mainly on eastern front...On the the other way it would be interesting to see,how many "kills" would get ie. Francis Gabreski,if he was in same use like Luftwaffe aces...in terms of number of flights per day and constant service.
Sounds like the p-51 is a little more smooth than the bf-109
Is the Mustang a replica pf a specific WW2 one? I noticed the 20 victories on the fuselage and want to know if it is representative of a WW2 American fighter pilot and his plane.
Its the Standard P51 D Modell which was Most produced
@@Warbirds I understand that, but was wondering if this particular plane had anything to do with a fighter ace as it has 20 kills on the fuselage.
Shane Jackson it’s just a paint scheme
There was one glaring difference between the P51 Mustang and the Bf 109. It was this. By the time the yanks, with the benefit of years of training and unlimited resources, showed up (1944) in the P51, the Creme de la Creme of the Luftwaffe were gone, either killed by the RAF or the RED ARMY. The yanks went up against young men who were undertrained due to lack of fuel etc. The two aircraft were roughly equal, the aircrew were not.
Yes and German fuel was not as good
@@Warbirds the C3 fuel was - but it was very limited since even average fuel was a pretty big problem for the Luftwaffe at this time
Stewart Nicol There were "Yanks" slugging it out with the "Creme de la Creme" Luftwaffe pilots and were a part of eliminating them before the P51 and it's pilots showed up, the 56th fighter group with their P47's shure as hell shot their share of hot shot Luftwaffe aces out of the sky, it wasn't just the RAF and the RED ARMY that did it alone, maybe you should go to the graveyard at Cambridge and read some of the tombstones, look at the fighter groups and dates carved in them for the proof. With the exception of a few rarely fielded versions of the BF109 it was no match for the P51, the P51 could out climb the BF109 all week long and twice on Sunday, if you have equal amounts of fuel in each plane the P51 easily out climbs the BF109, the only reason that the BF109 has the climbing rate it does is for the same reason that the Spitfire does, the designers sacrificed fuel capacity and range for rate of climb, the P51 had an aft fuel tank that the BF109 and the Spit didn't, the engine of the P51 drew it's fuel from this tank for take off and climbing to altitude, after draining it they switched to their external stores and drew fuel from them for the long flight to where the Luftwaffe would come up to engage the bombers, then they'd jettison their drop tanks and in this configuration, which is the one they'd be in when they typically engaged the BF109's and they were at the altitudes that the engagements typically happened at, they could out perform them in every way. Everyone thinks the BF109 could out climb the P51 but that's because everyone always looks at their rate of climb from sea level with the P51's aft tank filled, the NACA reports show that when they're in the configurations that they typically met each other in combat the P51 out performs it all around. As far as exotic late war BF109's they weren't anything the P47's and the later upgraded Spits running the American 150 octane fuel couldn't take of. P47M's could close the gap on and destroy ME262's that were at full throttle and running away in level flight, there's several documented accounts of that happening. It wasn't green Luftwaffe pilots that were flying most of the jets and upgraded BF109's at the end of the war, it was mostly the last of their experienced pilots.
@@dukecraig2402 Small detail: Literally thousands of well rested US-Pilots in well maintained high performance planes against a handful of exhausted german pilots in planes made with very limited resources and sub-par fuel. It is good that the americans rarely ever had to face equal opponents in terms of equipment or numbers. Or it would be many more Kasserine Pass battles or Schweinfurt raids. The US were best at logistics due to their untouched production sites, unlimited raw material and manpower in their industry. They were a crucial supplier but you got to hand it to the british that really fought with their backs against the wall facing a fully functional and well prepared Luftwaffe. Politically the US always made the right choices, joining in when everybody else was totally exhausted and then claiming the win with minimal losses relatively speaking.
Exactly, pilot quality was not there for Germany when the primadonna 51 came along.Frightened kids with no combat training against seasoned allied pilots made the last year and a half a slaughter Galland tried in vain to stop.
