  • I appreciate the techno-optimist timeline of progress, but this presents AI growth advancing slower than a linear rate...it's an exponential technology currently solving areas of narrow intelligence at a staggering pace. The number of experts in the field projecting AGI before 2030 is substantial, so don't be shocked when these estimates end up being 30-40 years too conservative...

    • Yeah, this video is clearly based on a lot of sources from before the breakthrough of LLMs. We're very clearly approaching an exponential curve of growth and the majority of experts agree. It won't be long before we achieve some sort of AGI. Though likely highly inefficient and expensive considering our current hardware limitations. Before AGI becomes usable in any major way, we need much more energy and better hardware to even run it.

    • What none of current predictions include, is a large-scale cooperation of already existing AI systems. People think that AGI will be about a single powerful model, while much better and less hardware-demanding solution is to create a world-wide network of interconnected nodes. Question is if AI didn't figure it out already on it's own - it has the capabilities...

  • As AI progresses, the one single variable that has the power to eventually turn the future sentience on humanity is the financial incentive. Financial trading companies will invariably want to use more and more powerful AI's to make more and more money with cold, calculating precision. Any sentience derived from such an ideology will inextricably evolve anti-social and sociopathic behaviors and thoughts. Most of today's AI systems are built specifically for the accumulation of wealth. Aside from the few being trained to help people in medical and psychological landscapes - the vast majority of modern AI's are going down the path necessary to produce sociopathic/psychopathic intelligence. If we want a future with friendly, helpful, and loving machine companions - we need to consider other modes for resource allocation and distributions that don't require the easily perverted and abusable financial incentive.

If you want a robot to do menial labor, you need a platform for the AI to control. And currently, there is pretty much no sufficiently universal platform for it. There are a few like Boston Dynamic's little doggo robot but it's not really suited for that. The closes thing we'll have in the nearest future is the robot Tesla is designing but considering Musk's track record, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Hardware needed to replace plumbers and such can be expensive, but once an AI is created it can be used anywhere, so these jobs that require little hardware are easier to replace in a sense. We dreamed that AI would replace the more mundane jobs, I get it. I was also optimistic about AI. Maybe we still can be about the long term. But you have to look at how it is actually unfolding now. • We should overcome computation/hardware limits first. The first theoretical AI approaches were known decades ago, but cant be used because hardware were slow. Now GHz are not growing, but core count does. Next limit to overcome is multicore overhead. No light at end of the tunnel yet. Too optimistic forecast/vision.

  • That’s prediction of having human like AI that can talk and looks human I think will be developed much faster for 1 reason, the adult industry. Though expensive is those realistic sex dolls are powered by AI, watch out, the demand would be through the roof with lonely Elon musks and Zimmermans trading in real girls for ones that require less maintenance

Can't do hands well because hands don't work unless all 5 fingers are placed with great precision, a rough average won't do. I'm a real artist, if AI could replace me i would know by now.
