I have been to the part of land that you flew over (Cap Corse) and Bastia aswell and i'm glad that it looks as beautiful from the air as from the ground😂. • First of all, thank you very much for supporting the channel as a member! I do not know why we got a new departure routing. I agree with you and assume that it was because of separation from another airplane which departed just behind us. But this is just speculation. Thanks also for the helpful feedback! I will continue some work on the initial intro. I got good feedback and now I got your feedback! Right now, I think about shortening it even more down to 3 or 4 seconds or so. Have a great day!

  • Pretty cool video and interesting that you've received an updated clearance during taxi. But why where you asking for a new clearance and not the controller asking you if you are ready for a new one due to whatever? So was that planned so you knew that you will receive an updated clearance? Thank you for sharing & have a nice weekend. I'm looking forward to the next video! 🤩

    @xmoritz06@xmoritz064 ай бұрын
    • Thanks for your support as a channel member! They changed the runway in use several times and we got the departure routing and the transponder code from ATC a while before we started the briefing. I think the question from the first officer about the clearance during taxi was meant more like „please confirm clearance“. Yes, during taxi, ATC would usually call us for an updated clearance or for the clearance in general, if we did not receive one before taxi. They can do it until we are cleared for takeoff. So I do assume that they would have called us with the information. But this became obsolete due to our call. Changes in the departure routing during taxi out are always possible, but do not happen very often. Even if we get the final clearance during taxi out, it is usually the same what ATC tells us to expect prior to engine start. Sometimes, we request a different routing due to operational reasons. The approval for this may be delayed by ATC due to traffic rasons until shortly before takeoff. Have a nice day!

      @ApproachandDepartureVideos@ApproachandDepartureVideos4 ай бұрын
    • @@ApproachandDepartureVideos thank you for your detailed answer! The runway change was also the first thing that came to my mind or maybe due to some regulations of ATC, like on Sylt/Westerland, where the clearance needs some time, as the actual one is from Bremen Radar. Have a nice evening & thank you again!

  • Dear Stefan, another flawless departure, as usual:) What is the main reason for increasing speed when levelling off and wating for further climb clearence at FL140? Better instant climb performance when switching to THR CLB/OP CLB regime and reducing it back to 320 kts or any other considerations?

    @coachpilot1@coachpilot14 ай бұрын
    • Thanks for your support of the channel as a member! We prefer to get a continuous climb to the optimum cruise altitude. Here, we expected only a very short level off at FL 140. Instead of keeping the climb speed, reducing the power and leveling off at FL 140, the pilot flying leveled off and increased the speed to 320 knots with climb thrust. If we would have gotten further climb shortly before reaching 320 knots, the plane would have continued with climb thrust all the time and due to the reduction back to optimum climb speed, we would have gained a good amount of additional altitude.

  • Good day Captain and best wishes to you both, another beautiful departure from a new Airport I think. I have noticed on a few videos that you are keen to gain altitude as soon as possible. Pardon my ignorance but I was wondering why, is it to do with fuel economy perhaps? Thank you again for another excellent video.

    @tango6nf477@tango6nf4774 ай бұрын
    • Thanks for watching, your wishes and your support of the channel as a member! There are several reasons why I would like to gain altitude as soon as possible: After takeoff, I would like to reach the the MSA, the altitude at which we are clear of obstacles very fast. This usually enables a good possibility of ATC shortcuts. Before giving us a „direct to“ clearance, they have to make sure that there are no obstacles in the way. Later on, we want to reach the cruise altutude without delay because the airplane flies slower at low altitudes and burns more fuel than at the optimum cruise altitude. Have a great day!

    @kerimkilinc659@kerimkilinc6594 ай бұрын
    • We got already a departure routing before our startup. But - if I remember correctly - it was only "expect xxx departure". If that happens, the departure clearance has to be confirmed during taxi. Usually the confirmation is the same routing as the expected routing. Here it was different. I am sure that if we would not have called ATC about it, they would have called us sometime prior to our lineup.

    @sawyerhja@sawyerhja4 ай бұрын
    • Thanks for your good feedback and your financial support of the channel as a member! Your statement is correct for approaches. During the takeoff it is different: The pilot monitoring has to check if we are fast enough to retract the flaps.

    @11clarkm@11clarkm4 ай бұрын
    • If I remember correctly, we did get a departure route, but not the full clearance before startup. ATC usually confirms this routing latest before lineup. Special here was that the routing we got during taxi was a different one. This does not happen very often. I assume that if we would not have asked for the clearance, they would have called us a few moments later with the new routing.

    • @@ApproachandDepartureVideos Thanks for the answer. That's true, Funchal airport looks really nice and is probably the most unique as far as I can tell from your videos. I've watched so many of your videos that I'm starting to understand the instructions, the take-off and landing procedure, and can read the instruments on the screen - at least the general basics - and this from someone who has nothing to do with aviation. It seems that you are doing a good job of educating the viewers. Keep up the good work and stay safe! 👍

  • Question: If you receive a speed constraint that is above F/S speed but below S/GD speed do you still retract the flaps to next setting? You’d be above VLS but below the next manoeuvring speed. But if you didn’t retract you’d have a lot of drag to contend with.

    @tomstravels520@tomstravels5204 ай бұрын
    • If we receive a speed constraint which is below the green dot speed, we keep the flaps extended until we are allowed to increase the speed. This happens sometimes at certain departure routings. They contain published speed constraints which are usually (depending on our weight) below the green dot speed. So we keep the flaps extended until we have passed the associated waypoint.

    • Thanks for watching and your good feedback! It is the sole decision of airtraffic control if we have to fly the published routing or if they want us to fly on a heading. This has nothing to do with autopilot on or off. We can fly in nav or heading mode with autopilot on or off. No problem.
