Food is a big part of the cultural experience we want to give to our students. That is why we wanted them to try some typical British snacks that they probably have never even heard about, and their reactions are priceless!

why would you start out by saying "British snacks probably aren't the best..." why do those behind the camera run down Britian
They say that because they think their countries are better.
I agree not a very good advertisement for British food.
@@user-gf1jt2hp4m but the one behind the camera that says it is British.
Self hatred
Liberal lefty hates 🇬🇧 😢😢😢
The panel are adorable. Feeding them Marmite after stuffing their faces with chocolate is just evil. 😁
No regrets ahah
British snacks are not the best in the world proceeds to give them marmite lol Britain has some of the best snacks and best chocolate in the world.
Best is subjective. But richer and smoother than US equivalents definitely. Try swiss or Belgian chocolate, proof to me that more taste isn't necessarily better. But again that is subjective.
I find Belgian and swiss to rich, I love cadburys milk .
@@seeker1432 Yes, so do I, just as UK chocolate is rich and creamy to Americans, the higher cocoa content in Belgian and swiss chocolate can often assault the senses rather than please them.
@daveofyorkshire301 the variety of British chocolate is the best in the world the different things they do with the chocolate. Belgium and Switzerland they have amazing chocolate but it always tastes the same.
And they chose one of the most boring chocolate bars too, a penguin. There are loads of significantly better ones.
There is no debate on Jaffa Cakes, they are scientifically cakes.
That court case was mind blowing. Like having a court finally settle who's best out of Winnie the Pooh and Eeyore or whether or not Marmite is good.
@@benlee8436 They're opinions, subjective. Cakes are cakes
@@benlee8436 And who* says tax law can't be fun! * Everyone, inc. tax lawyers
They're legally cakes. I strongly doubt there is an agreed upon scientific standard for the definition of either cake or biscuit.
@@Person01234 There is. Cakes go hard when stale; biscuits go soft. They're legally cakes because they're scientifically cakes.
Why does no one ever explain to first time tasters of Marmite that you spread it thinly on bread and butter. It is not jam or chocolate spread, for first time users you need a light touch until you get used to the intense flavour. It's no wonder that they dislike it when it's eaten like jam, totally wrong and totally unfair.
This. They did better than most. I spread it like jam but I've been eating it for decades. The advice I give to first-timers is to spread it and then try and remove as much as you can.
Exactly, need a thin scraping with butter. The first time my non U.K. ex tried it he took a spoonful straight to the mouth and wondered why it was horrible😂
Jaffa cakes are my favourite snack. I used to buy a twin pack to last me for a few days and eat it in less than half an hour 😂😂😂
Jaffa cakes are very dangerous, they disappear very quickly.
Creme aggs are NOT sessonal in the UK they are readily available 12months of the year Sorry but there is no debate regarding the Jaffa cake as that was settled in a court case at the Supreme courts in the UK and it was for tax reasons
Exactly, the proof was that biscuits go soft when stale and cakes go hard. Jaffa cakes go hard so they are in fact cakes.
i think they mean seasonal as in people will tend to eat them around easter, not that they release every easter.
The law also says someone shoving a dildo up your a** without consent isn't r**e, doesn't mean it can't be debated. They're cakes for tax purposes, outside of that people are still going to argue.
The creams egg fondant filling has been flavourless pure sugar ever since the Mars corporation bought out the Cadbury company which is a shame as it was one of my favourites as a child.
Mars hasn't bought out Cadbury.
@@garlichr my mistake it was Kraft now Mondelz either way the point stands they replaced most of the original recipe with extra sugar. Which is why the fondant now makes my teeth itch.
Jaffa CAKES, are called because a biscuit when it go out of date or stale it go soggy. When cake is stale it goes hard. Jaffa cakes go hard.
I go hard. Am I cake?
Yes
You need to advise them that the best quantity of marmite for one whole slice of toast is about the size of a pea, or bean. When spread it should barely be visible. It's not overpowering that way!
British snacks are the best.
BEER! 😂🍺 LEGEND!
Other ideas… Tunnocks wafer. Tunnoks tea cake. Hobnobs. Rhubarb and custard. Stick toffee pudding 🤤🤤
British snacks/ confectionery is the best in the world. Hands down
Cakes go hard, biscuits go soft.
More of this please!
We will have more content like this soon! Thank you for the support!
Having travelled the world I would say British snacks are one the best, if not the best!
Cadbury eggs got have a ice cold glass of milk.😍🤩
Love the Flamenco strip 👍
Watching this while eating marmite on toast 😂
That was great, deffo do it again with hot food
Might be another video coming soon 😋
As Brits we know how to eat a Cream Egg or Flake without spillage, its a art. I love Marmite i put some in Beans, fantstic.
everytime i see a video of somebody trying marmite for 1st time i know ... just know they are going to treat it like jam or peanut butter and have it inch thick , i like it but i treat it like salt and have it thin on toast/crumpet , so thin its barely visible , tastes great then
Think it is mind boggling they all speak English
Really?
English is one of the most spoken languages in the world so why? 😂
@@joegilbert3149 it's the only language with more non-native speakers than native speakers
There is no debate about jaffa cakes, it was settled over a decade ago by mcvities to avoid biscuit tax. They are cakes. If a cake is left on the side, it goes hard and if a biscuit is left on the side it will go soft. The base of a jaffa cake will go hard when left on the side because it is a small sponge cake.
Marmite on toast with butter ? Yum
They really should have had marmite on buttered toast rather than just bread and butter and they put too much on at your request. 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
I’ve still never tried marmite and I’m 43. It’s odd though as I used to think I’d hate it and now I feel like I would like it 🤷🏼♀️ Will have to get some.
Marmite is amazing! You should definitely try it at least once.
I didnt try it until i was 25. Now I love it and have it on toast all the time :) but i spread it very thin
@@vayull7163 I’m gunna buy some tomorrow and put it very thinly on buttered toast. I feel like I’m gunna like it. I’ll report back lol 😅
@@emmaplatt9385 I look forward to the report :) It actually took me a day or two to get used to it. I hope you like it straight away :D
@@vayull7163 well the results are in. First slice of toast I spread the marmite as thin as possible and I liked it. So I put a bit more on the second slice and hated it lol. Turns out there’s a very fine line between love and hate haha. I will definitely keep having it but very thinly spread 👍
British snacks are great what is she talking about
a jaffa cake is in fact a cake, because it hardens when it goes bad, unlike a biscuit which goes soft when its bad.
There is no debate. The clue is in the name, Jaffa *CAKE.* This has been proven in a court of law.
I had marmite on toast for breakfasg this morning, love it
Imagine telling those poor kids to only use a little bit of butter - but not bothering to tell them to only use a little bit of marmite!
We did tell them, it's just got cut from the video.
Why would you tell them to use a little bit of butter at all. I love Marmite but a good amount of butter is essential when you have it on toast!
marmite needs cheese then its 110%
In my opinion - Marmite on Crumpets > Marmite on Toast (though I do like it on Toast too)
Marmite with crumpets every time :D
@@burnyboi man knows his taste.😉
Beer?
Definitely confused by that answer.
Jaffa cakes are mainly apricot. Got some marmite, but havent tried it yet !
Huh? They are made with the Jaffa orange...
They’re called Jaffa because of Jaffa oranges. They’re orange flavour.
"British snacks aren't perhaps the best in the world"?! I'm sorry, WHAT??????
They should have eaten cheese and marmite. Or marmite with cheese and onion. I also like very little on cold toast but no butter on bread. There's also a collaboration with Marmite and peanut butter. Not My favourite. Less is best. You need to get used to it. As many put loads on and judge the taste there but UK people known Little is best, also in hot water as a bedtime drink. I think they've never tried Ribera drink not local they pour in glass and dislike the taste but you put in a glass small amount then add water to taste. By adding more water or by adding more ribera. Personal choice. 😂
Nobody ever gets Marmite right, if you dont toast the bread have lots of butter and a small amount of Marmite then dont bother because its sttong.
i love marmite with cheese toasties but on bread noooooooooooooooooooooo
We definitely were a bit mean with that one!
should have given twiglets as a snack
Much better selection you could've given... But deffo monster munch 👍
Austrailian TimTams are their version of British Penguins. Austrailian Vegimite is their version of British Marmite.
One of the students did mention that Penguins reminded her of TimTams!
I might prefer Tim Tams and Vegemite over the British equivalents, but I prefer British Cadbury over Australian Cadbury. Over here, Cadbury did something to the chocolate to make it melt less in the Australian heat. Still not bad, but it's not quite the same.
I'm a Marmite fiend and can eat it out of the jar with a spoon. I finally got around to trying Vegemite a few weeks ago and whilst I didn't dislike it I was disappointed. It's like Marmite only kinda burnt and with an odd consistency. I guess there's an element of preferring what you're used to. It went in the bin in the end, realistically it would only have got eaten if I'd run out of Marmite and, well, like that's ever going to happen.😁
But Australia penal colony for food testers :)
Disagree I've had both penguins came first Tim tams are just a poor copy penguins outsell Tim tams .
"British snacks maybe aren't the best in the world..." sell it to them, in a way only we Brits can. No wonder everyone else seems to hate our food, lol
You know what they say, keep expectations low... and they ended up loving most of them!
Cadburys cream eggs deserved better than that
Creme eggs are inedible to me, the filling is just pure sugar
What are you talking about woman British snacks are top.
This video was great until they had untoasted bread with a ridiculous amount of marmite on it. Marmite has a VERY strong flavour and is very salty; nobody uses that much, and for someone who has not eaten it before, the correct amount would be a quarter of a teaspoon spread over a piece of toast.
When will people realise Marmite is not a snack and should only be eaten spread thinly on hot buttered toast.
The Australian Tim Tam biscuit (named after an American racehorse) was the improvement on the Penguin biscuit.
Timtams are the same recipe, but Australian inferior chocolate. The same as Vegemite just has stinky veg added, and tastes like burnt cabbage.
@@vickytaylor9155 In 1958 Ian Norris while travelling through Europe looking for inspiration to create new products. He came across the penguin and he decided to try and make a better one thus the Tim Tam biscuit was born. Vegemite is disgusting.
Improvement? I’ve tasted both and penguins are far better and if anything the Tim Tam was a deterioration of a penguin.
I’ve tried a Tam Tam, they aren’t bad. The Penguin is much better though.
@@TheRedPeril Each to their own.
Out of all our awesome chocolate bars you could have chosen you gave them a penguin? Probably one of the most basic and boring chocolate snacks we have.
Penguin are amazing! The students in the video now buy them on a regular basis
creme eggs too much sugar
should have done marmite with no butter
"British snacks are probably not the best in the world", in who's opinion?, only yours. I've tried snacks from all over the world and british snacks as a whole, are far better
For snacks British are easily the best I've had aswell and I've been to 20 odd countries
No wonder they didn't like the Marmite, you put Anchor Butter on the bread, it is foul, you should have used Country Life!
We will keep that in mind with the next bunch of students!
Poor choice of snacks
What would your top choice of snacks be? We will keep them in consideration for the next video!
I absolutely love marmite but cream eggs not thanks way too sweet and sickly
Well most of our snakes are the best in the world and marmite ain’t a snack !
We only have two snakes in the UK, Adder and Viper. Auto-correct is a pain, isn't it?
