Approaching The Scene 277: Scouting The Scottish Highlands
(LINKS BELOW): We’re just back from a scouting trip in Scotland and it was simply epic. Here’s a look via stills and video at why the Scottish Highlands in fall are a photographer’s dream playground. The majority of my photographs in this video were captured with Nikon’s new ZF retro body. I’ve been really enjoying it. I’ll have a review video and setup guide out for that camera shortly. All of the drone video and stills were shot with my new DJI Air 3. It’s simply amazing.

Thank You! Makes me very homesick for my homeland!
Spectacular shots! Boy, the cuisine must have changed dramatically since I was there in 1967.
Wonderful photography and film gentlemen.
Wow-what beautiful images!!
Great shots! Can't wait ti see more.
glad you had a great time. Am there in the spring
Glad you all enjoyed your visit to the UK and especially Scotland. Like you say, fantastic scenery, great food and great people. Not forgetting the whisky! Cheers, Richard
I was up in Glencoe last week, but didn't get your weather. As you said, it's fantastic scenery, so I'll be going back. It's only about a 500 mile drive for me. Glad you enjoyed your visit, Maurice
Great video and collection of images. Old man of storr looked stunning. Seems you were lucky with the weather. Been wet and grey here in Yorkshire for the last 6 weeks.
Wonderful video. Your 2024 workshop will likely sell out even before it is posted. I do not know of better workshop leaders than Hudson, Rick, and David. I cannot wait to join them again in Scotland.
Welcome to the UK, I’m biased but have to agree Scotland is amazing ( especially Isle of Mull) awesome pictures well done 👍
Amazing to see you taking photos just around from my home, my work and then inside my favourite pub ha.
Such a great place to live and a fabulous pub!
Stunning! Scotland has been on my bucket list for years!
Wow. Got my Scotland juices flowing.... Thank you.
For anyone who has not been to Scotland, that gives a great taste of what to expect. 😊
I'm a subscriber and have been to Cuba, Utah, and Scotland this year totally unrelated to your channel. Your pictures from all these places are amazing and really do a wonderful job of capturing the essence of these places. Keep up the awesome work and thanks for sharing!
Awwww! Thank you!
Beautiful images, especially some of the drone shots. Well done !!
You lucky ducks. I was there for a workshop last fall and it rained almost the entire time.
As a Scottish Landscape Photographer I am really delighted you had such a welcome and fantastic conditions, look forward to seeing more of your images.
WOW!!! This trip was outstandingly beautiful . What atime you all had. Both April and I watched it and what memeory it brought back BUT with out snow. It looks like you bypassed Edinburgh. Now you understand why our Gabrielle does not want to leave Edinburgh. She travels to the Highland whenever possible. Thank you for this ATS.
Excellent stuff. I live on the Isle of Skye. The island and surrounding area have lots of cool places that are not on tourist bucket list, so you will need to return in the near future. Good video. Glad you enjoyed the trip.
Hi from the Scottish Highlands. Really great to see you enjoyed your visit. I recognise many of the places you visited. I'd recommend next time spending some time in highland Perthshire too particularly if you like forests and waterfalls and woodland photography. Mountains like Schiehallion and Ben Lawers, Loch Tay, Loch Tummel, Loch Rannoch and the forests round Dunkeld and Pitlochry are absolutely stunning. And Pitlochry itself is a beautiful wee Highland town. Visit the oldest distillery at Glen Turret near Crieff and I'll buy you a present of local produce to enjoy! As we say here: haste ye back!
Looks like you had a lot of fun on an amazing scouting trip and from that, the groundwork has been laid for an amazing workshop!
I hope you paid a visit to the Necropolis in Glasgow,,,, dependant on the time of year, late afternoon is best. Some fantastic Mortuary Head Stones and Grave markers make it very worth while. Brian Moore (Glasgow, Scotland))
How did you get on with Otters on Skye's coastline? Its taken me a few years to work it out in Scotland but it is so rewarding to find, track and shoot them. It's an art in itself.
A huge change in the food from 45 years ago when I first visited. It was horrible then.
Gloves? Toques? C’mon guys! In Canada you’re in sweater and shorts weather.
