    • Perhaps. I hope it's a good sign. However, going by the higlights, it seems Zverev still prefers to hit lollipop second serves when things are tight...and few players will be as kind as Meddy as to stand 4 feet behind the baseline and wait for the lollipop to arrive.

He has bigger weapons, excellent movement for his size, unbelievable wingspan and is now getting a pretty good touch at the net too. The biggest question is how mentally tough he can be in the Slams when facing a real mental test. On the other hand, any comparisons are difficult, because Medvedev's game is so unorthodox. • Interestingly, while there are some differences in technique, Zverev and Medvedev are very similar players. Tall guys who still manage to move well, with big serves, very powerful groundstrokes and at the same time, incredible court coverage and defense. Seems like the sweet spot for hight in tennis has moved up a few inches since the generation of Nadal, Federer, Murray, Wawrinka etc. I, for one, am excited for the future of tennis. Zverev, Medvedev, Rublev, Thiem, Ruud, Ztitsipas, Berrettini, Hurkacz, Sinner, Alcaraz, Norrie, Fritz are all pretty young and should keep progressing the sport for a long time. Crazy that Thiem is already 28. Won a somewhat "soft" grand slam because some of the best players weren't in attendance due to COVID, got very close to Roland Garros a couple times only to be stopped by Nadal, and now he's been injured for months and months. Appearently he is making his comeback over the next couple weeks, I hope he can get back in top shape and seriously compete at the French Open and US Open next year. I know some people don't like his game, but when it's on, it's on :D

  • Zverev was on top on the tennis world in 2017,18, being 20,21, owning the other players of his generation. 2019 and 2020 saw his father struggling with health issues, the allegation against him and other factors. 2021 was the year when he got back up to the absolute top. he has all the talent in the world. could be the year´s end Nr. 1 in 2022.

    @simonsp3006@simonsp30062 жыл бұрын
    • Zverev was never at the top of the tennis tennis world. 2017 belonged to Federer and Nadal, 2018 to Djokovic/Federer/Nadal, 2019 to Djokovic and Nadal, 2020 to Djokovic and Nadal and 2021 to Djokovic. Moreover, Zverev has never reached higher than world number 3. Did you forget who nearly achieved the calendar slam this year? In 2022, it all depends if Zverev can beat Djokovic and Medvedev in best of five tournaments. Those are the only obstacles in the way of Zverev winning a slam.

Then once Zverev hit the forehand service return, I'm sure it reminded everyone of the forehand return that Novak hit during the US Open semifinal against Federer in 2011.

  • It seems that Zverev has finally come good. When he first broke into the scene, you'd have thought his game was naturally destined to take him to the top. But mental strength, among other things, have hindered his progress. His shots now have more purpose (à la Djokovic), he moves exceptionally well, he has the height, and now it seems like he's broken through the mental barrier as well. I think his time has finally come. Not particularly a huge fan of his, but, really happy for him.

  • I have to say this was a really good final. Sure the first set was a bit tentative and tight from both players, especially Medvedev, but that second set was the best set of the tournament. It really shows how much that break of serve was important in the second set cause it cost Medvedev the match. In my eyes it was looking a lot like a repeat of last years final where Thiem failed to capitalize but this year it was different. Zverev was simply unstoppable. He wasn't about to let Medvedev find another gear, he didn't give him the time. And more importantly he raised his own level today. A great way to end the year. But this raises a question for Medvedev. A guy who rarely gets outplayed ever got outplayed two times in the last month. A guy who always looks like he has the answers couldn't find any in his last two finals. Could this be the peak for Medvedev? After all he won a slam. Mentally is he there to do it all over again? And if you think I'm crazy let's just remember where Thiem is now, after losing the final of this exact tournament last year. It isn't inconcievable that Medvedev needs a bit of a break. To mentally recharge himself. Hopefully his hunger and motivation is still there. It will be a really interesting 2022, that's all I'll say.

    @dusanstanisic7567@dusanstanisic75672 жыл бұрын
    • I've had some of these same thoughts, and I sure hope it's only time for a long break for Medvedev. In some interview, I believe Thiem said that after winning the US Open, he just lost something in his desire to win (of course the pandemic had a mental effect on a lot of people too). Then, the wrist injury pretty much put an end to his year. Medvedev has become my favorite player to watch and root for - although this whole week, he was just on the edge of losing every match. I think tennis needs him. He's more than capable of winning more slams. It's hard to question that getting into two finals in such a short amount of time isn't a very successful accomplishment because just about any player would be thrilled to have accomplished that. I guess we'll see in January just where his head is then. Personally, I hope he's ready to get back to kicking a@@ and taking names.

  • Zverer has an unbeatable service game. At some point it's pointless to watch him because noone can break his service. The tennis rules basically saying if you train yourself to the best service player, the chances of being a top player are very high. What if they allow one service per point? This would definitely make tennis more exciting and balanced sport.
