The red cars are the worse color cars on the planet in my opinion forever. 🗣️
Do you recommend valvoline restore and protect for a Toyota Corolla 2013 that has over 160k miles
We had a red 77 Honda Civic when I was in high school. It would oxidize all the time. Twice a year it was so chalky that I would use deoxidizer and then wax it and my father told me that when he took it in to the shop they wanted to know who did it because it looked so good. I didn't believe it so the next time I went in and sure enough they really liked the wax job ( it really did look good I just never really thought about it). The guys at their shop never figured out that it was a two step process with the deoxidizer and they just left theirs chalky. I never wanted a red car after that.
I cant believe a good local body shop cant repaint just the hood and make it look way better than it does now !!!
Yeah the $9000 mentioned in the video must have been a full paint job from the most expensive shop in town. I would think that you could get a body shop to repaint the hood without spending too much--maybe $300.
You can repaint the hood and fenders the right way at a good body shop with great paint match for around 2k
@@sleepymole8885 That seems like a lot especially if it's a $4-5000 car. (I don't know what the actual price was.) I guess paint jobs have become pricey.
You can't see much of the imperfections on camera.
I was thinking the same thing!
theres nothing wrong with it....she just overpaid for it
I kept looking and just ended up thinking that’s pretty nice for a nine year old car!😂😂
You can’t see much from pictures anyway. You always need to have a look in person.
Any Car with 100,000 miles on it these days and a few Rock chips who really cares , Fill in the spots get on with life, People complain Way too much about things that really don't matter that much at the end of the day, Sure it's inconvenient having to keep touching it up.
Agreed.
And no codes!!
She bought it with the chips in it.
Or get the hood repainted for $500 and then get PPF put on it for another $500.
@@jamescaron6465 I was actually impressed by that!
That car is in excellent condition for a 9 year old car with 100K. It wouldn’t bother me. My 2020 had chips on the hood and valance in the first year, and here in Bay Area we don’t get any snow. It just happens from all the stuff on the roads. Be happy you don’t have a newer car like mine. Chips and scratches happen if you drive it. If it really bothers you try taking it to several body shops and see what they can do. Offer to pay cash, you may get a better price. Good luck.
The problem wasn't hidden from the purchaser and she had ample opportunity to inspect the vehicle....irrational to expect a car with 100,000 miles NOT to have paint chips on the hood.
It's a woman what do you expect?
I agree. She sounds difficult. No one tricked her or forced her to buy the car.
Karen demanding to speak to the manager
car looks decent, probably all highway miles with the chips in the paint.
Mazda over 100k wasted money
It's going to cost $9,000 to paint just the hood? Crazy!
It’s 9 years old with 99k miles on it. It’s a used car, it’s going have some wear and tear
100k miles and expect zero rock chips? 9 years old and expect perfect paint? 😅
Yep. That’s about right for many car buyers. Old Scotty fans the flames, too. He’s from the squeaky wheel school of thought. I sold used cars. As Is and those customers were always advised to crawl around and bring any issues up BEFORE taking the car.
How about full disclosure or "Truth" ? Perhaps then the customer wouldn't be upset. Scotty is right, they could refund her money or offer a discount on a different car she would be happy with. They won't because their greed and dishonesty. NOT a place for return business.
@@SlickCat She was not forced to choose that vehicle. I guarantee she would be first to say her age and claim to be a grownass woman. But she was impatient…gotta have that car now! Lol. Are you not a fan of personal responsibility?
@@SlickCatHow about this… A) Fully inspect the car BEFORE buying it. or B) Assume all cars with 100k+ miles have some paint damage because they all do. 😂
Only 4K miles and I already have a bunch of rock chips 😂
This is a known problem with mazda's soul red paint color,i have a machine grey mazda 6 that has a few rock chips on there,i will get the bonnet repainted this year and clear bra it. Mazda makes wonderful cars regardless.
Keep it waxed and the hood will outlive the car. They even make color wax.
It's fine!
Tint shops carry a clear wrap for hoods and front bumpers …. Worth it it ya got a nice new one Works well
I live in the rust belt of northern Minnesota. Cars up here get rust spots as little as 3 years old and around 10 years are rusted so bad their junked. Paint imperfections like this are nothing. I'd love to have a car this nice
Thank you, Scotty, for this "good-to-know" information! It is so helpful (especially since that is one of my favorite colors :) )
hope your doing ok scotty, take care and thanks as always
I used to have a 01 Camry in the same exact color as the one you displayed in your video. Sold it to a friend for cheap a few years ago and he did have some problems with it. Not major problems and some actually caused by poor quality parts installed when he had some maintenance done (like timing belt/water pump and shock absorber replacement). The original water pump didn't leak but the replacement one did. The a/c compressor clutch also failed so a garage did replace the whole compressor assembly and charged him more than what he paid for the car! Now the a/c is empty and I vacuumed the system and it won't hold the vacuum for 5 minutes. Now I'm the bad guy who sold him a $1000 (Canadian $) rust free car to replace a Toyota Echo that was badly rusted which he sold for the exact same amount.
I used to mix automotive paint and this color is a nightmare. It has a color layer, a pearl and then the clear over that. It is next to impossible to do it with touch up brushes. In the pearl layer there is a stabiliser additive that can strip off the base layer when you apply it and it ends up too thick. The dealer has clearly only applied the base layer which looks nothing like the finished product. The pearl layer is a red transparent kind of paint that makes the color pop. I doubt they even sealed it with clear either. To do this color properly u really need to repaint the whole panel. I always advised customers to not choose these colors when buying a new car. They look great but not worth it when you need to fix it.
Scotty good to see a new video friend
this is the top of line one, sunroof navigation AWD.
It's the Honda pearl white curse! That is the only thing that has ever pissed me off about owning a Honda. And Honda blatantly refused to fix the thousands and thousands of pearl white flaking paint jobs that occurred over several years! I don't even own the vehicle anymore and I still am pissed even today.
In Texas, she'd have a case under the Deceptive Trade Practices Act and get the hood paint fixed.
Thanks Scotty
They're not called "stealerships" for no reason!
thanks for not bein a stickler for background noise . i like lawn mower running back there.\ yeah when you go car shopping bring your glasses.. and on a sunny day
As long as it runs good...
Isn't just a simple repaint of the bonnet? I recently bought a 2021 CX5 in this color.
Probably hood, fenders, bumper and any extra trim pieces.
hood*
Thats not a simple job. It's expensive. She should have done a better job looking the car over.
9 years old looks pretty good.
I spent 1.8K € to repair/repaint 2 doors, back and front side-fenders, front bumper replaced with OEM and both wheels repainted (sliced the whole side of the car against a guard rail)... ok I knew the man and he made it without invoice, so the actual cost for anyone else would've been like 3K... but how is repainting just the bonnet so costly there in USA? Genuine question PS: the car now has 6 years and this happened like 3/4 years ago, it was a good job too because the paint hasn't deteriorated
Looks like that car followed a dump truck kicking stone behind it to me.
Mazda Soul Red is one of the best red car colors.
It is indeed, I owned a CX-5 with this color. Absolutely stunning. But it is a lot more difficult to resolve if any repairs are required. And more expensive.
I saw an MX-5 with is color. It was stunning. One of the best red metallics I have ever seen
It’s the most beautiful color that Mazda has, but I’m not sure about the durability of it
I think I stand with the dealer on this one.
Nah, they shouldn't have shown a dirty car, they probably left it dirty to hide the paint flaws in the first place, that's shady to me. Then once they have your money you're done. Always check car out as he said clean and on a clear sunny day. Anything you notice that you want fixed work it into the deal and in writing. Also, buying a car at a place that has some sort of 10 days or 500 miles guarantee or something will give you an exit plan. However that can be avoided with a good initial inspection by both you and your mechanic
Shady business practices are still shady no matter who your customer is.
Great video
I've got a 2012 w/ 130k miles and its a right sight worse than that. Give it a good cleaning, clay bar, and some touch up paint and a polish, it's not even like the spots are rusting out like mine
God Bless u Scotty
That Soul red is a nice color but I've heard about issues with it. It's very thin
You really do get your money back within 30 days at CarMax. No questions. Changing to 10 days in May but that's still great. I love Carmax
Bought this Maaarrrszda! Always sounds like he's had six cans of V or an equal amount of coffee - never change Scotty!
He should either agree for a full return, help cover the cost of a repaint, or my best suggestion is to help cover the cost of a body wrap. Body wraps are quite nice and will even protect the body reasonably well.
A car hood respray would cost less than $1000.
What is Scotty on about? 😅.......
Actual advice to prevent this on your car is to stop tailgating. Rock chips usually get launched at your car by the wheels of the car in front of you. As a bonus it might save you from an accident as well.
Sounds like sage advice for the LADY WHO BOUGHT THIS CAR to begin with 😂. So she fkd up and bought on a rainy day. She saw the whole thing and still signed it. What's the problem? She stuffed up. Give up girl. Sounds like a massive drama queen.
Maybe just get a hood wrap in vinyl. They can print the vinyl to match the car paint color code. It's more expensive than a standard color wrap but WAY less than 9 grand.
Is Little Scottie having another hissy fit? 🤣🤣🤣
They change 595.00 for the Crystal Soul Red. My wife wanted it when we bought the cx5
It's a used car, it's going to have some defects. Get over it. You aren't going to get a dealership to drop the price or do a $10k paint job on a used car for normal wear and tear. If you want a perfect car (or as close as you can get), then get a brand new car. But you still need to inspect it because even those aren't painted by aftermarket paint shops, they are painted on the assembly line, so sometimes those may have some cloudy spots or defects.
This is a stupid take. I agree the lady is being a jerk.
Aha, here we have a comment oozing w/wisdom and logic. Read it, children, and learn from jp, not the guy w/about 50 years of experience, take this guy’s advice. ‘It’s a used car; it’s going to have some defects. Get over it.’ Absolutely genius advice~ Don’t inspect the automobile, just assume it’s got some defects and ‘Get over it’. Don’t point out or look for damage to barter with or asses value, just accept all used cars have their problems…brilliant!
I mean, the dealership sold her a car knowing about the paint default and said nothing about it. I get that every car is not perfect, but when you're paying good money for a car new or used, you expect higher quality. And dealers are scumbags and I don't trust them.
@@user-rc7ts9xu6b i agree . But she's mad she didn't look the car over better.
@@dang75790 Yeah, she definitely should've double-checked it over.
I would really appreciate it if you could give me your honest opinion on the 2015 Mazda Mazda3 I Touring 4dr Hatchback with 64,000 miles on it. Is it worth buying at $16,000? Also, are there any major issues I should look for, Or is it even worth the time at all? I really trust your opinion on vehicles
It needs a repaint and a clear protective vinyl coat.
That kind of mileage and if it is highway driven (which it looks like)...doesnt matter what kind of car it is.. rock chips will damage paint.. its the nature of the beast... worst case.. repaint the hood, maybe paint correction which will definitely help and PPF
The color looks good to me. Hell I need a car, they're just nick picking
its not like the paint coming off
Luv Lexus is those good cars the older models 2010
Why is Scotty skipping the red ambient temperature showing 49C in the live data? Why there is no error triggered on that red value in the scanner?
Mazda is notorious for their soul red paint chipping. It’s a known problem that Mazda won’t address.
and its extra $$
the only way to fix that paint damage is to sand use a primer filler, sand smooth then repaint the the damaged areas, and CLEAR coat it.
I purchased a 2021 cx5 new. Soul Red, nice color. I have the same problem with the paint. Chips like her all over the car. First year no problems. Now lots of flaked off leaving white dots ( I think it maybe the primer.) All I heard from Mazda Cooperate office is crickets. Made in Japan. After one year the problem started showing up.
Hi sir Hyundai Elantra gl 4dr 2017 65000km for 18000 cad including taxes is it worth and what all things I need to check before deciding Pls advise
I had that red on my 2014 mazda3, paint was flawless right until I wrote it off at 180,000km
Hi Scotty, this is an unrelated question. I had new tires put on my wife’s car today. I’ve been reading all over the net about retorquing lug nuts after driving 50 to 100 miles on the new tires. Is this true? I’m almost 60 years old, and I’ve never heard of it. In fact, I’ve never done it, and I’m still here! Thanks
I think that is mainly for new rims. They are seating in those first few hours of driving. If you really want your wheels properly torqued, you should break them all free yourself and torque them to spec. Since the nuts are all put on the same direction, but one side is rolling the opposite dorection, you should check your lug nuts frequently anyway. Every fill up is really not too frequently considering the condition of most roads.
Thank you, I appreciate your info
Never buy a car on a rainy day .
Everything can be fixed even made better its just a matter of how much you want to spend. You could completely resurface the hood it would just cost a fortune.
This is why I prefer cars that are white, white or white. A lot cooler in summer as well.
2018 Rav4 in Pearl White 😢 Apparently, they have a 10 year recall on this color. We shall see..
Excellent Scotty Kilmer
Tell her to get it wrapped, maybe the dealer will chip in.😁 Maybe wrap the hood black, might look cool.
The bad thing is that there are a ton of Mazdas that have that particular paint color.
Regarding the paint : that’s the “punishment” when you chose the Soul Red color at Mazda. I have the same car in Titanium Mica Flash and no worries at all. Lot of body shops are not eager to work on the Soul Red paint cars…
Paint doesn't effect the drive ability
That car has one HUGE problem: a sun roof.
How much too have car wrapped?
you can always wrap it
I try to buy only light colored cars but white is my favorite car color!
Scotty is right about the older car. The right car comes with manual transmission.
If it had rust that’s on thing, but this is just little dings. So what it still looks good and nobody really. Will notice or care if it has some small dings.
What's the name of that dealership?
I bought my 2006 civic when it was snowing, I never saw the paint chiping that pleged all the civic of that time. I got screwed ! So I agree with Scotty
I'm confused. How is the dealership to blame? She saw the car. It's not their fault it was rainy. I am not a huge fan of dealerships in general, but its not like they can hide the paint. It's the buyer's responsibility to look over the car. It has zero codes and runs great. If cosmetics are that important, repaint the hood.
what do expect from a car with 100,000 miles perfection.
the paint on all vehicles now is very thin and soft. all vehicles get stone chips because of it. even Toyota's and Honda's. You will never get stone chips to match the car with the terrible paint pens that they have now, hell you can't even get it close. why they stopped having the pens with the paint and clear mixed together is beyond me
I had a Mazda with the same red paint and it had lots of little chips from rocks tossed by vehicles in front of me. It's not Mazda's fault. I think it's the white primer under it that makes the chips stand out more. Friend had a red Jeep, same thing.
Most people when they are young work jobs where you have to deal with the general public. There are always members of the general public that just can't be pleased no matter what. To them it's a power trip. The nastier and more demanding they are the more powerful they feel.
I like cars that have that "industrial fallout" look. Where the roof, hood and trunk have clear coat worn away. black wheels . Anyone else? Or am I nuts. ✌️
If she had bought it new and the paint was like that after a few months like it happened to my cousin who bought a new Mitsubishi (bad idea!) with a similar color that had worse chips after just a few months (which didn't get fixed by the dealer BTW). In a situation like that, she'd have something to complain about! But buying a 9 years old car already like that, probably not! Not so long ago, many 9 year old cars were already in junkyards in the northeast and those that were still on the road really showed their age! I'd be more concerned with the condition of her steering wheel than these paint chips! I hate damaged steering wheels and replacing this is probably even more expensive than having the hood properly repainted! And a cover like what Scotty has in his Matrix wouldn't make me happy! 😅
Scotty? Just got gifted a 2001 Mercedes s430. Needs a tune up. One of the cylinders is misfiring, first gear (I think) sticks in cold weather until it warms up, air suspension needs repair or replacement and the air conditioner and electronics ( radio entertainment console) needs repair. Should I bother putting money 💰 into it or drive until it dies??? Love your vids brother.
The key to this whole thing is how much did she pay? Thanks 😊
Ever consider shaving your head mr. Kilmer.?
Or a buzzz.zz
Even though Scotty didn’t say the dealerships name that contacted him because the lady said she’d have Scotty look it over, he still shows the license plate frame at 2:14 where she got the car from. That Mazda dealer obviously was scared when they found out the car would be on Scotty’s channel. They knew something wasn’t right with the paint.
This is also obviously a paint problem from Mazda, my old Toyota that’s 15 years old, the paint looks brand new still. Scotty’s old Lexus and Toyotas still look great with the original paint.
Wellesley Mazda?
With the new inferior paint used on cars now, I was told to put a clear film on the front of my 2018. Did that and used a ceramic coating on all the other paint. So far, so good.
OR, you drive like my wife and tailgate being sprayed by debris.
Rock chips on an old and used car?? What do you say to Cyberust, I mean Cybertruck owners who have rust chips on an almost new car??
That's not good! I suppose you shouldn't buy one if you live the rust-belt states. Maybe Arizona or California would be ok.
Why are dealerships scumbags?
Aw. Mean old dealers come grab hapless people from their bed at gunpoint and force them to buy a vehicle? Ah ha ha ha!
Before I repeat my past comments I will honestly tell you all years back dealing with mucho honest volks was a real pleasure not only at auto shops my dads plumber dentist family doctor or else was a real pleasure camera shop too he costumized them so we could take photos easier faster less work as I also did to a three wheeler business cycle costumised it to do easier work we are not human being all of us perfect or are things used in our lives perfect have a nice day and enjoy yourselves
Because we haven’t done your homework.
Greed
You never heard of rock chips, really? Mazda paint is hard to match perfectly and touch up it’s almost impossible.
My 18 year old Corolla w/ 140K miles has no paint chips!
That steering wheel would be a deal breaker for me and those steering wheel covers are atrocious and can slide around on the wheel. If the previous owner just turned it upside down every time they parked it, it wouldn't be messed up. Common sense
I LOVE Mazda red.
take it to macco and paint the hood, no big deal it's an old used car
My mazda 23 cx30 is beautiful! I love the soul red crystal! Only red car I've had. Unfortunately it's heco en mexico. 😭
When people ask you why does you have all these dots on it you go that's a special paint job it costed extra money It's unique to every vehicle you can't replicate it😂
Who was this dealer and what was the manager’s name?
She can wrap that car its cheaper (wrap it) girls do it all the time on you tube 👏
seems to me those chips are a good thing...doesnt that mean highway miles?
In other video didn't you say cx30 made in Mexico and cx5 in Japan
Yes, but this is a CX3, not a CX30
