After the pandemic? Impressive

I'm so happy to read in the comments that the place is still open and the food is good. I noticed the absence of Chef Ramsey trashing out the kitchen organisation, which means they were doing a fantastic job in the department. The real issue was the food. The family seem like such nice genuine people that were truly greatful. One of the best episodes.
Me too.
i agree
One of the few where all the staff is great and there isn't a disgusting kitchen situation with roaches and mold. Just canned clams. They made most stuff fresh, they just did it poorly. Thick pizzas and overloaded cheese and toppings means undercooked dough and lost profits.

One thing I've learned by watching these: If you want to know what's wrong with your restaurant, ask your servers. They know.
Exactly. I’ve worked many years as a waiter. Most times we don’t pass on the complaints because chefs are usually psychos. Other times the blame will be on the waiters. Other times the blame will be on the customers. So we just don’t say anything. So in reality the only ones who actually know the issues are the waiters.
Owners who don't know what's wrong with their restaurant aren't the type to ask.
so true! i’ve worked as a server and the last place i worked at had no formal chef, just one girl who had to prepare all the food, do all the dishes, and deliver it to the tables. it was horrible!! if she got a large order, the kitchen would be backed up, and tables would sometimes wait an hour for just a dessert. but i would have never said anything to the owner, because i didn’t want to be disrespectful. restaurants should really do anonymous surveys for servers to speak on these problems freely.
yeah i doubt most servers will tell you the truth, i mean its not like its their job to sell the food, most wouldnt talk bad about the place they work at
Yea
Fun Fact: My ex-wife was pregnant with my youngest daughter at the time when this episode aired. We couldn’t come up with a great, unique name for her but when I watched this episode, I finally found the perfect name. I named my daughter after the waitress, Celestina

It's the best pizza in Denver!
I think the key to what has allowed Pantaleone to remain successful after this episode aired is that Pete WAS a great cook in his day, but his own confidence in his ability ironically blinded him from changing with the times. This was Gordon Ramsay's way of teaching an old dog new tricks. Really inspiring and encouraging that you can always return to greatness at any stage in your life.
It's not that he didn't change, it's that he stagnated. Some of the stuff they served would not be considered "good" during any time period.
Here's one neither of you though of, 10% In the survey though that shit was good, statistically some will, however you can't run a business that serves floor 10% like, maybe the food critic in '81 was mental??, or maybe his food went down hill? Or maybe it didn't keep up?

The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. What an amazing episode honestly. Pete probably locked up and held on to his past success to avoid facing reality. But to see the man have an open mind made a huge difference. He actually listened to the opinion of locals, understand what a successful pizza place looks like and gave up his facade that he knows whats good or not is why they did well. Still open today because this man was more open minded than all of the other subborn owners unwilling to change. Arrogance really prevents growth and change, and this man showed other failing owners how they need to respond to Chef Ramsay.

They are still open in 2024. One of a few restaurants on Kitchen Nightmares that didn't permanently close. Good for them.
I like this episode because none of the people seemed like shitty people and they actually followed through with Gordan's advice. Wholesome Kitchen Nightmares.
Right? From the introduction alone you could see that Pete wasn't the villain, but just a bit too in love with his own cooking.
@boneshakerbaby - agree 100%. I like that at the end, it was all done with respect on both sides, as Gordon wasn't as brutal as he sometimes is. Just a proof, if you are honest with him, and want to improve - he will actually help you and give an advice. And he will appreciate the honesty (as most people should/would). If you bullshit him... yeah, this is not gonna fly at all :) But it is not this particular "kichen" fault as such. Basically the main guy doesn't have enough experience. He has a lot experience in his place, and he is confident that he is doing OK. But he has nothing to compare that too. Doing something for 37 years, and not adapting, not moving forward, not being flexible, being too confident - nah, this is not gonna fly. Also missing the experience with being a chef in several+ other restaurants, other places, or even ohter countries. Just a simple life experience of working in multiple places (regarding your profession). Even somebody like me, would know (not connected with food industry in anyway). But it I was a chef in such place, I would be curious. I would pick the top 20 places in Denver, with different food choices. And simply go there, even once every 2-3 years, as a chef, and just eat. Nothing more. Just taste the food, taste what other people are doing, compare that to food that I'm cooking, and be honest with myself. The lack of comparison to other "products"/restaurants on the market, and dated confidence was his main issue. Note: and his wife is also a proof of his mentality: "...I've been your partner, you haven't always been mine". Such a simple statement, but also powerfull.
But they skipped the walk in fridge 😢 my fav part

Gordon Ramsay is one of the only few really big tv personality to actually work his way to the top and that is because his main focus was well… actually working aka cooking.
@@pearline4684 i think you will find most British TV cooks and chefs worked their way to the top as you put it. Nearly all of them trained and became professional chefs/cooks before fame. Nigella Lawson was famous because of her politician dad (who used to do what Rishi Sunak does now). Even Jamie Oliver was discovered when he was working in a restaurant and in a documentary about a restaurant he was working at he talked about things as part of the documentary.
@@cliffhulcoopofficial8075 -- Jamie Oliver was picked for his youth and his looks, not because he was a skilled cook who 'worked his way to the top'. His food has always been pretty fucking awful and he's never actually run a successful restaurant. He got investment funding to start a chain, but it was never profitable. Nigella was actually more famous because of her husband, John Diamond, than because of her dad. It was that documentary about her caring for him and his family while he was dying of cancer that really put her on the map. But Nigella's family used to own Lyons (big historical food business in the UK) so she does have a family tradition there. As with Jamie, her looks were the real selling point.
I love that Gordon is always nice to the servers as long as they show they are hard workers
I love how the entire episode he just calls Gordon "Seth Ramsey"
Gordon Ramsay isn't toxic. He just wants people to open their eyes to the truth. The first step to fixing a problem is by acknowledging that there is one to fix in the first place.
That’s kinda just the Gordon Ramsay ‘brand’ and to make the show better. You can’t talk to people like that in real life. Criticism is important to help people recognize things and get better, but there’s clearly a lot of embellishment and added drama when it comes to his shows.

I also feel for Pete (chef). It's very existentially difficult to admit that he has been drifting to nothingness (performance-wise) because (perhaps) of his institutionalization within his business. When your passion becomes your job and money-making scheme, the best you can do is think about the process. The outcomes necessarily follow. Every dish is an opportunity to lift someone off his own hardships and that's something professionals seem to neglect over the years.
What I like about this episode is that you can tell that everyone in the family clearly loves each other. They're frustrated and they're upset with each other, but they care about one another and that love is in everything they say to each other.

I think that’s a negative side of not having anyone telling you what to do for 20 odd years (assuming this was filmed in late 00’s).
@@cobbler9113 This episode is from 2013 but your point still stands.
Glad you clarified with "was". It's cool he turned out to be a good person at heart
Omg I ugly cried this was beautiful! The emotion in this family was breathtaking
Be thankful as always for chef ramsay. For helping those chef to improve on how to prepare great pizza.
Had the pleasure to try their pizza out, and lemme tell you, if not for the recorded episode, you'd think they've always been this good 👍
So is it good?

I have always found this episode very wholesome and hilarious ever since I first saw it years ago.
Blocking your ears closing your eyes and yelling "la la la la la" or saying "shut up, shut up, shut up" when ever someone corrects you will make you blind
Really enjoyed this episode, actually one of the few, where you can see how much the chef/owner is actually invested in his restaurant. Sure, it's hard for him to let go of the past glory and he's in complete denial at first, but hey, we see him actually COOK MEALS! Not just throw it in the microwave. He actually made fresh dough and baked fresh pizza and made fresh pasta. Like, you could see that he actually was experienced in restaurant work and he also was passionate about what he did. Yes, he was quite stubborn, but he did also want to save his restaurant that was so special to him and his family. He was actually much more likable than a lot of the owners on this show.
ngl the microwave would have faired better XD
@@dzernys9555 no not even microwave ready meal can compare to the fresh food a bolonagese is better fresh than microwave.
@@dzernys9555 The point is not about which taste better, but the principles and discipline the chef holds. Although it doesn't taste good, the chef cooked it from scratch, instead of taking shortcuts using frozen, canned and microwaved products. They don't even have a problem with hygiene, the walk in was not shown to be a health hazard too, the only problem here is just portion size, ingredients ratio, and the owner being stuck in the past.
well said brother!
Fake and staged!!!
I know its probably for the camera but i love how they literally ask gordon for advice and then says "i dont need to change"
AUGH MY HEART IM GONNA CRY THIS IS THE MOST WHOLESOME EPISODE COMPLETE TURN AROUND AAAAH I LOVE HIM AND I LOVE GORDON!!!!!!!!!!!
15:19 Pete: "Let the garlic roast." Josh: "Roast you." Pete: "Really? I'm gonna whack you over the head with this damn thing." That kind of has a really bizarre, sweet family bonding feel to it.

@@aaronharris5069 It looks more like a playful tiff than a fight, although I can't imagine it's far off. 😅
Notice when they were smoking outside and Pete's wife came out, he got up and gave her his seat. I just think nice manners show something. At least that's something. Also I desperately want to see the thick crust, it must be literally heart stopping.
I noticed that too. He's actually a sweetie, I think. Stubborn old git, but a nice guy.

It's a Greek thing. We might act tough but we know who the real boss is lol
Why didn't the boy stand up? Been in America too long to be a gentleman? More importantly, why wasn't there a third chair, since the whole thing was being filmed and they knew how many seats they needed? It's all a set-up! Just remember the old fucker telling everyone to shut up, before that scene. Maybe they'll all die of lung cancer. Best lungs in Denver?
@@GeorgeTelop Happy wife, happy life. Wish I had known that in time.. ;P
the really cool part about this episode is that the chef wasn't in denial for too long and he didn't ignore gordon or get in his face because he was under pressure or had his ego shot down like most other chefs do on this show plus the fact that he was able to learn and with his family and they were able to keep the restaurant open even to this day is phenomenal
He was kinda like those people who won't stop ranting about how they were so popular back in highschool but now suddenly invincible. There's an understandable reason, though, his confidence was based on his work and the fact that back in the 80s, his pizzas were the best and even winning multiple awards. The problem is he got complacent. He thinks he already knows it all and that nothing is going to go wrong no matter what because, after all, he WAS the best right? And if customers can't appreciate his work, then it MUST be their fault right? Again, after all, he WAS the best? That's just ego talking. His ego was so big he didn't even thought about the fact that he's getting old, and a few more years, he will have to pass the title of ownership to his son because he definitely doesn't trust his own son to be able to carry the restaurant, so he does it all himself because he WAS The best right? No one can do better than him in his mind. In that age, he should already be teaching his son how to manage the restaurant by himself with him only acting as guidance. Because when you get lazy due to complacency, it WILL show in your work. Luckily, the restaurant is still thriving now and he learned his lesson. It took a hard-beating and reality-check, but it's what he needed.
I love how this video pops up again in my recommended every few months and I'd still eat that pizza every time
14:00 i love Ramsay is always so kind to the staff that "just work here" because it's really not their fault or say at all, they need a job like all of us and often times people take their anger out on them 😢
Chef knows that the staff is very important part of any restaurant and he treats them really well always, that is what makes him so great
@@lifewithkat151 not almost, the food being bad is literally never the server's fault. They escorted your dish to the table and that's it lmao

The 80's aesthetic totally works if the food is still amazing. There are restaurants in my town who've been so consistently good that the decor hasn't changed since the 70's and they're packed every night they're open.
Quality can be sold from "anywhere" - and if you deliver litterally everywhere.
The best Chinese food in our city is literally a place that looks so fcked up you’d think it’s a dumb just by walking by.
People will flock to little hole-in-the-wall restaurants if their food is exceptional. Décor helps get people through the door, but it's nothing if Pete hadn't been on board with updating the menu. I mean, Amy's Baking Company had nice décor...
@@suitov Exactly. Decor's one of the least things I'll complain about if the food's edible and value for money.
theres a lot of american style diners in my country with decorations that look like they came from 1950 and i love them 😁
I'm literally in tears.. My father had an electronics business and did the same thing.. He's just still stuck in the 80s.. I and my brother tried our best to convince him to change the way we do business and go with products that are currently in the trends.. To have a proper financial management plan but no.. He's been doing this for 40 years and he knows what he's doing.. and now we lost everything. Lost the business. Im working in a 8-5 job 5days a week. Have no any savings even for a startup and we are drowned in debts rn..

Only someone too young to understand, or with just as much hubris as it'd take to be like Pete in this episode, could fail to see the issue there.
What i love about Gordon is he has never been mean to a waiter because the food is not theyre fault
In 2024, they're still thriving and maintaining their tradition of closing on Sundays. The owner's passion for football shines through, and as a fellow European, I completely understand and respect it. It's wonderful to witness their ongoing success. This episode remains one of my favorites.
Pete is just a great character. He is proud at what he do. He got lost at some point, and Gordon helped him to find it. It wasn't easy, but he did it.
