In the opening sequence she raids a massive cartel safehouse with dead bodies in the walls in a massive gunfight and she's gunslinging like an operator. Because of her supposedly "vast experience" with cartels and raids, she was specifically chosen to join this CIA team. Then somehow just moments later, she acts like she's never been in this type of action before. Completely clueless like it's her first day on the job and a local PD. It's just bad writing period. Nothing can be said to defend that.

    • I love how he lies and treats her like she provides value to the team. "Learn, that's why you're here." They only needed her involvement as an FBI agent to legally justify operations on the US side of the border since the CIA can't (shouldn't) operate in the US. If she had been former military then she would have a better appreciation, but most FBI agents are just glorified federal police. Combat experience is a different animal.

      @ryankuypers1819@ryankuypers18197 ай бұрын
    • You're misunderstanding the scope of her reaction. She's questioning the entire setup - they're supposed to be extraditing an important member of the cartel, so why are they doing it via a crowded border checkpoint instead of by air? Why are they stopping to engage random cartel members who may or may not even be aware of what's happening? If you're told your mission is a simple extraction, and suddenly you have your team going out and shooting people, that's a reason for concern. The more attention you draw, the longer you're forced the spend in an area where they may be hostiles, the more dangerous it becomes, the more likely your mission is going to fail. THAT is why she's saying "what the fuck?" because as far as she knows this is NOT how you do an extraction. Unless of course, the plan wasn't just to extract the guy. And that's why the Delta guys are unfazed, because they know what the real mission is. I guarantee you if those same Delta guys were told the same thing Kate was, they'd be having the same or similar reactions. Not just because people were shot, but because they were in that situation in the first place.

      @spaghettitime3263@spaghettitime32638 ай бұрын
    • When I was discharged from military, I became a police officer, so as someone who has a bit of experience in both, here's what I know. Law enforcement officers are just that, law enforcers. They're trained to operate inside the law, they're not trained to do black ops on another country of which the legality is dubious at best. When you're in the military, especially if you're on a duty tour in a hostile country, you're surrounded by hostiles. Everyone you see could be an enemy. A spy, a suicide bomber, a sniper somewhere up above. Your mindset starts to develop this sense of constant vigilance, where every non-friendly is a suspected hostile until proven otherwise. You pull the trigger on the first sign of aggression, not because you want to, but because you need to, your life, and your comrades' life, depends on it. As police, I realized you can't have that mindset. I'm in my own country surrounded by my fellow citizens. Sure amongst them are criminals yes, but most criminals are just petty ones that requires no bullets. You can't apply the same callous mindset and view every fellow citizen as potential hostile. In fact it's the opposite, everyone is innocent until proven guilty. On top of that you're mostly operating in urban areas, where every stray bullet has a much higher chance of hitting civilians. And let me tell you the paperwork for discharged bullets in law enforcement are way more of a nightmare than in the military. That's why police are relatively much less trigger happy than military. And this movie I have to say, has a very good portrayal of that different mindset. Of the contrast between law enforcement and military. It reminds me of how much I had to adjust when I first became a police officer. Not to mention, these are delta, one of the top tier spec ops units, a different breed, they're literally trained to do the dirty stuff, because no one else would (well except maybe DEVGRU, SAS and others, but there's only a few of these in the world comparatively). Emily blunt's character is just not trained for this situation, she reacted as expected, and it is portrayed perfectly.
