In June of 1975, I had just completed my Plebe year at West Point - and I headed down to Wildwood, NJ - to blow off some steam, before returning to visit my family in Cincinnati, Ohio. While on the beach, I joined in to an ongoing soccer game. It turned out to be the State Champion high school team from Ohio - and they welcomed me (although they were much better players than I was). At week's end, they asked me to join them - on a trip to Riker's Island, to watch Pele play his first game with the NY Cosmos. And - so - away we went. Riker's Island was famous as the location of a serious prison. As we neared the island, traffic ground to a halt. Thousands of people were headed to watch the same event. We ended up turned away - because the stadium was past full. I ended up hitchhiking home to Cincinnati - my last ride being with a professional comedian, from up near Cleveland, almost all the way down to Cincinnati. He laughed at my story about the failed attempt to attend Pele's first game with the NY Cosmos.

An intriguing story of Pele and Brazil playing football the traditional way. I love the whole story. No African team will ever win the world cup playing European style of football. The day African teams start playing football the African way and at the FIFA World cup tournament, then the World cup will come to Africa for the very first time. With all due respect to Europe, I am only suggesting that Africans remember their identity even in the way they play football. God bless FIFA!

@@x_isaka You're so right. Clubs in rich nations buy and sign up African players just like other players from other countries and continents. But while other players go back to play for their countries, most African players born abroad by African parents prefer to play for European nations, Saka, Agbonlaho, John Fashunu and others snubbed African teams. Don't blame them because it's their choice. Also, the deplorable situation in most African countries, make most persons to travel out so as to live a better life. Africans need to wake up and fix Africa and make it very attractive even to non Africans.
@prof.felixehimareenegho67092 жыл бұрын
I agree. As an asian, I can see that african footballers are very talented but they sometimes lack the proper tactics, facilities, etc to win the game. As soon as they sort this out, they can be a real threat in football and in the world cup.

Pele will always be the #1 football legend and he inspired young boys and girls everywhere, R.I.P Pele 1940-2022
Football is just a sport not rocket science
But he wasnt just a player he was inspiration for the younger generation@@englishexpert1989
The video made me emotional that Pele made his teammates joyful as they won the World Cup final. Great respect for Pele and R.I.P for him
Pele shall be remembered as among THE LEGENDS. May his soul R.I.P
That's an incredibly beautiful story a boy from the lower class poor area, who has a very empathetic dad, even the other players on his national team had work place injuries because they had another job and some were missing fingers, overcoming this adversity was all done by embracing there diffences because it's our differences that make us unique it's our differences that make us beautiful
this is a true story, and this man is still alive at 81!!
He dead now
Uhh this aged poorly
@@orthodoxcrusader5413 aged like fine water 9 months is good enough

This story is very inspirational 💜 I love your explanation.
To be honest.....I have never watched such an emotional and at the same time historical and Inspirational video.... First of all congrats to those who produced this video then secondly I wish to thank them bc I have learned so much by watching this video and I am sure I will be a better person henceforth
The greatest player of all time. Nobody comes close to him even after 70 years.
Im half German and pretty much grew up there and Brazil has always been my favorite team. Dont get me wrong cause I Die Mannschaft but Romario, Renaldo and Ronaldinho have always been my favorite players.
Pele is on another level bro. Don't compare him with other players. He is a God gifted player just like Diego Maradona
@@niladrichatterjee7461 "Don't compare him with other players" immediately followed by a comparison with other players....
@@maxeman514 🤣🤣🤣
@@niladrichatterjee7461 bruh no one compared the players other than you
half german 🤔🤔🤔
Well. The legend pele says his hardest opponent ever was George best. Wonder if they’ll make a movie from him
My respect for you calling it football and not soccer : 📈📈
I thought they are the same
It’s football
The feet and ball are the only ingredients needed for the game hence football
@@posharay3871 yeah the socks are not as important as feet and ball so therefore should be called as football and not soccer
Same!
People don't understand that this man was ahead off his time just like Michael Jordan.
I have seen this movie literally 100 times

he is a LEGEND LOVE and RESPECT FROM SRBIJA CCCC
Just seeing men cry together being victorious is really a sight to see.
As a Brazilian, i can say that Pelé history is one of the most legendary of all time, he aprimored the way of playing Football and made it the way it is today, im not happy because he's gone, but im happy because he existed in Brazil history!.
I love this comment Soo much❤️💯
coz all best african players are bought by rich countries and given citizen :(
@@x_isaka You're so right.
I agree. As an asian, I can see that african footballers are very talented but they sometimes lack the proper tactics, facilities, etc to win the game. As soon as they sort this out, they can be a real threat in football and in the world cup.
A story about staying true to yourself.
I have seen this movie almost 10 times
What ever character that coach plays...I'll always remember him as Private Pile.

Woooow from being bullied alot and so poor into a legend was when Pele paved way for all legendary footballers show who are in what they do.
I love the story very inspiring , but up to today the world hasn't fully accepted skillful football like Joga bonito some people still frown on it and disagree and defenders hate such a player who's skillful BUT AT LONG AS BRAZIL LIVES 🇧🇷 💯 ❤️ AND ALWAYS PARTICIPATE IN WORLD CUPS , THERE WOULD ALWAYS BE SOMEONE TO MAKES US PROUD OF JOGA BONITO 🔥💪 respect to the legends
