  • There are a lot of great “what if” scenarios in the UFC. What if Masvidal never landed the knee, what if Chael didn’t get caught in the triangle, what if Tony and Khabib fought, what if the horse Overeem ate wasn’t taking steroids, and so on. But I think what if Petr Yan didn’t land the Illegal knee is my favorite. I never would have expected for events to turn out like this. From crybaby champ to one of the best in the divisions history is crazy, especially when considering when the former champ who everyone was talking so highly about as being the next great is on a losing streak. Crazy how one action can impact the sport in such a big way.

  • Except he didn't really. Let's recount, he won the belt off Yan via DQ and took a year off, beat Yan in a rematch that could of gone either way, beat a 1-arm TJ who he couldn't finish in the first even though he had top control and all TJ could do was defend with 1 arm and then he beat Cejudo who had not fought in 3 years and was noticeably smaller by split decision that could of also gone either way. I think Aljo is among the top 3 BWs for sure and the fact he's cleared most of the top guys in his division is amazing. Yes, Aljo deserves credit but don't make it seem like he's Jon Jones who came back after 3 years and almost ripped Gane's head off lol.

    • omg i agree, because it was the fact that he lost to a Cejudo who had not fought in 3 years in split decision, which i thought that Cejudo won. So he didn't silence me and I will still talk trash either way cause he is not likeable.

    • Jone's win over Gane was not that impressive. All Jones did was expose how dog-shit the Heavyweight division is, and how undeveloped a fighter Gane is.

    • He took a year of to get surgery on his neck He beat Yan, a nightmare matchup for Aljo, counters his style, and Yan’s style is heavily reliant on taking early rounds off to analyze data from his opponent and had basically 4 rounds of data to work with going into the second fight which is why he started uncharacteristically aggressively He beat TJ who’s on paper another nightmare matchup while Aljo himself also had an injured arm (torn bicep) that needed either surgery or stem cells, and a neck that had surgery on it He beat Cejudo who’s *another* nightmare matchup for him and hard counters Aljo’s style on top of putting pressure on Aljo’s injured neck early on

  • People like to discredit Aljo by saying his wins aren’t dominant, split decisions, and he beat an injured TJ But what they fail to realize is that Aljo isn’t lucky it all. He actually has some pretty bad luck. His first 3 title defenses were all against nightmare matchups for his fighting style, and we know that styles make fights on top of all of his opponents being former champions Yan, TJ and Cejudo are horrible matchups for Aljo, so him getting split decision wins in the most competitive and stacked division in the UFC on top of those wins being against nightmare matchups is actually insane As for TJ, Aljo’s bicep was also torn going into that fight, they both came in with injured arms. TJ’s arm was compromised but it wasn’t dislocated until after Aljo took him down. That and what led to the takedown had nothing to do with TJ’s arm in the first place If we talk injuries, nobody talks about how Aljo had a torn bicep and a neck that recently had surgery when he fought TJ. And besides TJ commentators, nobody talks about how Cejudo was putting pressure on Aljo’s neck for a good majority of his control time but Aljo still pulling through and winning

    • bud your point makes no sense this guy bitches about his neck every fight for years its bs hes fine tj fought him with a dislocated shoulder and aljo couldnt finish him and aljo was trash then he beat henry who hasnt fought in like 4 years guy is a clown and how he acts doesnt help

  • The Yan 2 fight was a robbery. Aljo “won” by split decision because 2/3 judges scored the first round 10-9 in his favor. HOW?!? Yan controlled the center of the ring the entire round, Aljo was on his heels scrambling around the edge in order to avoid engaging. Yan didn’t “dominate” the round or anything but he clearly won it. Yan won the fight winning 2 out of 3 rounds: (1)10/9, (2)9/10, (3)9/10, (4)10/9, (5)10/9 Glad this fraud got his ass TKO’d against Sugar

  • Yeah i dont think he silenced many doubters at all. Most people left thinking the same they thought going into that fight. And if you cant get your own backyard to cheer for you after you defended your belt thats saying a lot.

  • Sterling has won 11 of his last 12. It’s not a fluke, he is one of the greatest BW's in the history of the UFC. He also landed more strikes and more takedowns and did more damage than Cejudo.
