  • I'm an F-15 maintainer and have been for over 20 years, active duty and civilian contractor. I never got to work on A-10s but everyone I ever talked with who did absolutely loved that aircraft. An awesome piece of hardware and not nearly enough of them were produced. Great ride along video. I thoroughly enjoyed. BTW, my name was painted on the side of a couple of F-15s while I was active duty. As a dedicated crew chief, I was supposed to get a ride but it never happened. I'm still pissed off about it, 30 years hence.

Growing up in Farmingdale as a kid I remember the first day my Dad started the program right up to the day the first prototype was loaded on a C5 for testing out west. I remember the weekends he had to work when they were facing design issues...the loss of one of the first A-10s and its test pilot at the Paris airshow...and all the dinner table family conversations, about how they always wanted to cancel the program...lots of memories....thanks again for the demo ride.

  • Absolutely love the A-10. Growing up an Air Force Brat I was around aircraft constantly and spent 10 of my first 18 years in Germany (4 years and 6 years). My favorite part as far as aircraft was 1979-81 when my father was stationed at Sembach AB while I was in Junior High. There seemed to always be a squadron of A-10's forward deployed from their base in the UK and they were constantly flying. Went in the Army after college and was still immensely glad to see them overhead knowing these old, tough birds were in our inventory. This was the best flight narration I have ever heard. Gator is a heck of a pilot. I have to say though, the really special people are the ground crew and maintainers that keep these old planes airworthy and safe!

The f111 was an objectively better aircraft for the role. but you dont see it getting any recognition cuz "haha brrrr" web.archive.org/web/20160304062736/www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a522397.pdf

  • Tidbits of technical info were wonderful, thank you! A-10 Specs; (given as): Empty Wt. 24,959 Lb Aerobatic Wt. 30,384 Wing Area 506ft^2 Wing Loading 60 lb/ft^2 Limit Load: 7-1/3 g Ultimate Load 11g. Maneuvering speed (from video): "285" in Knots. 285 x (6076/3600) = 481.01666...ft/sec. Dynamic Pressure (q): 0.5*(481.0666^2)* 0.0023772... (q) = 275 275/7.333...g = 37.5 60lb^ft2 wing loading divided by 37.5 = 1.60 Maximum lift coefficient of the A-10 airfoil at high speed: 1.60 60/1.60 is of course 37.5, if (q)=37.5 then Velocity = 177.62 ft/sec. Stall Speed** = 105.24 KTAS. Rotation speed given by Pilot as "110". **(if airfoil generates similar lift coefficient at lower Reynolds and mach numbers). Bingo. Everything checks out. This is how you can waste time better than doing crossword puzzles.

I spent four peacetime years in the army but only got to see this plane in action ONE time, during a training exercise, and BOY, what a piece of machinery it is! Most videos and discussions about this plane revolve around its durability and its gun. its agility and maneuverability are hardly ever talked about but I'm here to tell you it's something to behold. I don't know how on earth the pilots that fly this plane deal with the G-forces this thing pulls, but my hats go off to them. Incidentally, both of the jets featured in this video were serving in the 81st TFW 30 plus years ago and I remember seeing them both . 181 was the Wing CC jet for a time at Bentwaters and 962 was with the 91st TFS ‘Blue Streaks’ out of nearby Woodbridge. • Thank you Eric and the A-10 display team, I was mesmerised for 45 minutes. This is probably the best air display footage I have ever seen, and very informative as well, even if 'Betty' didn't always like it!

  • My bad ass parents put A10 thunderbolt II wallpaper in my bedroom as a kid in the 80’s ,..it was A10’s doing ground attack and dog fighting Migs ,..I’d daydream for hours looking at the most awesome wallpaper ever ,..as a single dad of awesome daughters now I don’t think they’d appreciate the same wallpaper like I did although my oldest is is JROTC and she’s loving it so maybe?

  • Never forget the first time I saw an A10, I was stationed in FRG it was midday and all of a sudden, I heard the scream of the A10 engines as the pilot came down the Kitzingen airfield at low altitude and disappeared. Everyone that was inside of the buildings came out to see what had just flown overhead.
