Challenging Landing QUITO - Boeing 777 COCKPIT VIEW | Life Of An Airline Pilot by
In this cockpit view video, I will take you along to Quito Mariscal Sucre airport in Ecuador. It’s an airport at a very high elevation and with the longest runway in South America. The landings in Quito (UIO / SEQM) are challenging due to the shifting winds, mountains, and high elevation. The video shows what it’s like to fly a Boeing 777 to a challenging airport, including incredible views, interesting facts pilots need to know about Quito, approach charts, and actual call-outs. Let me know what you think of this video guys! Challenging Landing QUITO - Boeing 777 COCKPIT VIEW | Life Of An Airline Pilot

I watch a lot of cockpit Videos, but this one is special: You did an extraordinary job in editing it. The slow, relaxed attitude with less voice overs and more text inserts even gives us time to enjoy the landscape. I obviously had a wrong ideas about the Andes in the Quito region, it is very much a high plateau. 10 Years ago my Quito connection was blown up: Radio HCJB had a shortwave service for Germany, but after 80 years the station closed and the antenna had to be disassembled to make place for the new Quito Airport. Oh - why is it difficult to loose speed, because of the low air pressure?
Thanks Thomas, really appreciate your kind words! Yes, because of the lower air density the a higher speed is required to maintain the same lift.
@@DutchPilotGirl @DutchPilotGirl Michelle, what a shame you came too late for the Space Shuttle program. With its tiny wings it was often descibed as a "Flying Brick". The glide slope was not 3 but 20 degrees. The decent rate was 750 f/m. So, may be NASA had credit you a few simulator hours for this Quito landing.
I have to agree, the video effects and transitions look really cool. Great job.

Excellent video! Looking forward to seeing more of these videos!
The annotations and pieces of background info make this stand out among other approach videos! 👍
Absolutely fantastic! Every year I am flying from London, Amsterdam to Quito. What a pleasure to hear from an experienced and confident pilot the details of the high altitude airport at Tababela. High speed to get the same amount of lift and landing safety. Congratulations and thanks a lot for this video Dutch Pilot Girl!👏🏻😊🇳🇱
Great work Michelle. You are my inspiration.
I love the new graphics. So much information without distracting from the beauty of the flight. So glad you're still doing videos. MIssed you.
Wonderful video, thank you very much for sharing. Keep flying and stay safe!
I reallylike this format: Uninterrupted forward view and non-intruding pop-ups with information. Keep it coming!!!
Almost like an augmented reality view of the real thing. This was one of the best landing approach videos I've seen.
Great video. I flew into the old Quito airport a couple of times as a teenager. As a passenger who was taking flying lessons at the time, I appreciate how much less scary this newer airport is. :)
Absolutely a great video DutchPilotGirl. Great job on all the info during the flight vectors to approach/landing. It took me by surprise. I was getting set for the same type of video everyone else makes. But you really did a grand job on this one. Quito, a very interesting place to visit. Last time I was down there was way back in 1977. Things were a lot different in the area and country side back then. I was there for 2 years as a student of engineering at the radio station HCJB. They moved just before the new airport was built, all the way down to Canberra Australia. Again, Thank you for all your content.
I am happy to hear from you. This video was worth the wait. Welcome back!
This is the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in a while! Great stuff pilot girl :)

I love the vibe of the peaceful music and great editing so we know what is happening as you fly
Amazing quality and approach! Thanks for making this video Michelle!
Good to see you again! Wish you well in this difficult time!
That was one of the coolest flight videos I've seen. Nice flying and amazing post production work. 😁
Great views and I like the approach plate details. Music very fitting for the flight. Thanks for sharing.
Great video! Most people don’t realize how challenging Quito is since it is flanked by two giant mountain regions. The old airport was even more challenging because it lay inside the city with homes literally at both end of the short ramp. I will never forget landing there when I first met my -now wife - and her family. The announced a decent and moments later we were touching down with what looked like on a highway. Hard braking because the single runway was a fraction of the length it is today. Now the larger jets can arrive. My in-laws home is on a ridge where you can softly hear each flight come in and close enough to the airport were they could hear the jet arriving, hop in the car and pick us up. Today the airport is nearly an hour from the edge of the city which was very controversial when announced but much nicer. The old airport did not have bridges from the gates and customs was just a few desks setup. Ecuador is a beautiful country, amazing people and love going to visit my in-laws when I can. Thank you for sharing!
Brilliantly done. The notifications during the approach, landing and taxi make the whole process clear and interesting. I retired a looooong time ago, but still love to see the professionalism and crew coordination. Your videos are so good that I feel that they could be used for training.
my favourite airport area ever.. I have been there in May 2019 ..and I was soooo amazed (as a passenger ) .. I love these videos and your channel :) take care
Great video and so good to see you back on KZhead. We are definitely living in interesting times. Stay safe 😷

Wow , one of the best videos you have ever done , spot on with all the overlays and graphics ! Well done Michelle 👍👍👍
Thanks Pauly! Did you see the one with dangerous airports? It features London City... I also created a video about Lugano.

It's beautiful scenery. You have a great view in the cockpit!
Thank you a bunch ! This is one of my favorite airports ~ it is just beautiful on the approach. Very nice way of communicating and some groovy music.
A phenomenal production! Beautifully created, informative and very clean. Brilliant watch! :D
Glad you like the video Thom!
Michelle!!!! WELCOME BACK! You were dearly missed ma'am. Hope to see more of you shortly down the road. As always, you look drop dead gorgeous!! Undoubtedly the prettiest pilot in the air! :o)
Great video and I especially like the flight data and ATC info on the screen. Thanks for the ride along.
Enjoyed that very much. You say it is a difficult landing, yet that seemed like a text book case. Excellent job. Just such a different perspective. Fantastic
I work at SEQM airport ! I wish I knew you were coming :C Amazing video !
Welcome back, we missed you. Truly understand why you were off for a while. Take care.
Love the video, excellent job, very nice approach and of course smooth landing 👍
I loved it, thank you for your amazing informal video...have a safe flight.
This is a truly beautiful film. As a teacher of film making for 12 years and (obviously) an aviation fan, I must congratulate you on this. Many thanks indeed for posting!
Thanks Steve! Appreciate it :)
This video is so inspiring! I wish one day to become a pilot and maybe have you as a captain!
Love the commentary in this video, a little insight for the intriguing mind. What you do is amazing! And thank you for letting us mostly passengers on this side of flying 🙏🏻
Thanks I enjoyed this vid. Looking forward for the next one.
seriously I've seen so many angles and i liked this one the most it's extraordinarily calm and vibrant...... also being an avgeek i was able to connect with current approach procedures as it is mentioned time to time which is so smooth and less stressful than other usually pilot videos... i really want more this type of content from you..... and congratulations for 777
Thanks for your kind feedback Shaheer!
Awesome! Thanks for explaining everything when you come into the gate! Love it!
This was one of the best things I have watched lately. I loved it. Thank you sooo muchh...
Yaayyyyy. I’ve been waiting soooo long. Edit: Glad you still employed
That is the softest landing I'd never seen in my life
Another beautiful approach and landing. At high altitude. Wow. Nice. Thank you for these wonderful presentations. Look forward to all of the upcoming landings. Blue Skies!
Love It! Very well done video! Play this repeatedly on a large screen in living room. Room feels invitingly alive with 72" . Calming
Very nice approach to video editing. Feel like you are the pilot flying instead of listening to all the voice overs. Like you occasional map, checklist input, etc. Keep doing what you do. 👍. You put us directly in the pilots seat.
Damn being a pilot must be awesome. Since I was 2 I love travelling and I might consider being a pilot some day. Thanks for inspiring me!
Great video. I really enjoy this content. Keep up the great work, and of course keep safe ! 👍
Glad to see you again!!! Keep it up!!! Best wishes!!!
To be honest, this is one of the best cockpit videos I have ever seen. Your explanations fading in the video are brilliant. It is really well designed. Stay always healthy and safe! Love to see more videos like this one! What's about e.g. Madeira airport? BTW when did you get your type-rating "upgrade" from Boeing 737 to 777? Well done!
this fuels my motivation to become a commercial pilot! and coincidentally a B777 pilot
777 is an amazing piece of engineering but give me a 737 any day. High intensity, multi-sector days in congested airspace are much more interesting 😀
@@owainwright6055 Keep your congested airspace and show me the money. Wide-body long-haul flights to fun, world-class destinations are the pinnacle of an airline career for most of us. But, hey, you do you my brother.
@@chriselley2261 i think it would depend on if u have a family or not
Congrats for the 777 qualification. I really liked the chart with the outside approach. Thank you

Love the moving map chart with the outside view so we can really visualize what's going on. Awesome video. Now you have to fly it for us in MS Flight Simulator ;-)

Incredible editing, which make this video as beautiful as educative. Thank you very much !
very nicely edited, love the format! You could have done more voiceovers, perhaps next time?
What? Michelle went from the 737 to the 777? That's what I understand from the title. And finally!!!!! Another video! I was waiting for it!
I don’t think this is her own approach.
No, she flies B737-800 for Transavia Holland.
@@superfreakalmere4143 do you stalk her or something
I wonder how many people will feel more relaxed about flying after watching a video such as this. In addition to providing wonderful entertainment you are helping people also I believe.
Beautiful video... and happy to see you're back Michelle
The editing and illustrations are incredible. The best I have seen so far. What software do you use?
Thanks! Adobe Premiere & After Effects
@@DutchPilotGirl Damn I was gonna say same thing....illustrations are just SO WAY COOL. You are as good at video editing as you are flying. One future video I would just totally eat up and love is a behind the scenes look into your video editing process. I'm thinking of starting a youtube channel myself with the help of ADOBE editing.
I have Captained a B767-300 at SEQM 20 times. It’s challenging in and out, with everything operating normally. Add an engine failure on takeoff, and you’ll be VERY busy! I’m glad that I never went into the old airport, as I’m sure it was much more challenging. I also landed 7 times at La Paz, Bolivia. That is the most challenging airport I’ve ever been into, in my 40 years as an airline pilot. Elevation 13,314’ MSL, with runway 13,124’ long😳. Can you feature that airport in a video?
I flew into Quito 2 years ago as a pax and was glued to the window. Nice to see the landing from the front office. Thank you!
DutchPilotGirl Excellent, Michelle. And love the editing too. Thanks.
When you were slowly taxiing along the runway after landing, almost had a heart attack when the words "go around" came on the screen.
Waite... you upgraded to the 777? Europe is so amazing. You can move so much more quickly up to heavier equipment. I flew contract for several years before coming to a legacy US carrier. Looks like you’ve found a nice new job? Well done Dutch Pilot Girl!
She is still on the 737
Fascinating. I was born in Quito, Ecuador. Yes, landing at the old Quito airport was challenging. Airplanes had to break very fast due to the short runway. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this video
I'm just gonna be honest here, I only subbed because you're pretty and I love the 777.😉
A tough approach ..... and you see so many planes at the airport !! It is like, you climb a mountain with difficulty and on reaching the peak, you see a party going on......
Yeah! She's a gifted pilot and beautiful too! A wonderwoman
And another great flight with my favorite pilot. Thank you for being you.
Fantastic video to a challenging airport! More please!
This is the type of inspiration I need ( little note maybe you could have put the communication it would be better ) great video

Nice landing and great video love the music that you choose for this video. 👍✈
I just wanted to ask would a Captain get in trouble if he switched seats with his first officer
Depends on the reason I guess... One good reason might be a control failure on the left hand side while the captain wasn't in his seat to begin with (because he was having his in flight rest)?
@@DutchPilotGirl Have you flied with the King? If so, does he make passengers sing the national anthem before he takes off?
@@erkinalp Nope never flew with him but I don't believe he makes the pax sing the national anthem before he takes off😂😂
@@DutchPilotGirl I don't no if it's true but I heard if they switched seats they can be confusion in the cockpit of who is in control of the aircraft
