Rusty Bearing Ball FORGED into a SHURIKEN

A lot of my fans and friends asked me to make a shuriken out of a rusted bearing ball, so i'm going to make this throwing knife today. It was not that easy to complete but I got too much fun with this device. Would be great to hear your opinions about final product and it's shape. What can i say, sit back take some sweet popcorn and enjoy the video.
Overall Shuriken Length : 4 Inches
Blade Length : 1.5 Inches
Weight: 130 grams
All the Processes are below of making this beautiful Shuriken:
Forging:
It took me almost two days to hand forge a huge steel bearing into a flat Metal Piece and that was one of the most hard forging i ever had. I don't have any serious equipment or a power hammer so all the forging work you see was done with big sledgehammer. On the first try the welding which fastened the handle to the piece burned out and fell off, such course of circumstances did not suit me so I was forced to start forging all over again and on the second try everything went smoothly and i got successful and easy forging.
Grinding:
I started most of grindings on my new professional Belt sander and then with some angle grinder and turned the round flat surface into a Shuriken shaped steel piece. I also
spent many and many hours on hand sanding with a help of abrasive paper to remove the edges and almost all the roughness of the blank.
v. Formed the edges with a help of grindstone.
v. Hand Sanded the blade to remove roughness.
v. The curves were rounded with a Rotary grinder.
Hardness:
Shuriken need to be hardened and professional way to harden it is to heat evenly to a critical temperature by placing into a fire. After that quickly Quench into the oil. Tempering is the best way to increase Strenght Hardness and Toughness of the Shuriken during which it loses brittleness but acquires resilience.

  • I know that you All was waiting for video like that. For me personally, the hum of the angle or belt grinders is not always a pleasant sound, especially when you work with it for several hours in a row every day, however when i saw the end result, that hum became more patient and soft :) I got so much great and fun making this cool shuriken video so hope you enjoy watching my dear Viewers. Also for me is Very important to hear your opinions and ideas for further projects you would like me to make ;)
