  • I've had a DSL40CR for about a year and a half. Hasn't failed me yet and sounds awesome. I've put multiple speakers in it too which are: OG V-type, V30, G12T-75 and Altec Lansing 417-8H. Last speaker is my favorite. It's honestly a great amp.

  • I own two of them...3 yrs into them ...Vietnamese made.. and not one single damn problem with either.. my band plays often and we play hard! Damn anything can fail!... I'm sure there's someone, somewhere who has a Porsche that didn't start this morning!! Stop the bashing!

  • I’ve never had a problem with mine. 4 years - now it needs preamp tubes.

  • I haven't had any issues with mine. I read somewhere that people who are having issues, have the previous version. The 40C, not the CR. I haven't heard anything negative about the CR.

  • Gigged with a number of Marshall’s combos and stacks for years including the Vietnamese built and never had a failure . The 40 with a creamback is a screamer

  • Well, if you look at Psionic audio’s channel (well respected guitar amp tech), he mentions that the dsl 40 is well built, same goes for our respected tech here in sweden. To be honest, the current DSL is considered to be better built than the DSL’s of old from England. So, if the tubes are crap, then change them out for something else, fairly easy :)

  • I bought the DSL40CR a couple months ago. After two weeks the power section crapped out. I returned the amp and got another one. After two weeks the same thing happened again! I returned the amp again. I am on my 3rd DSL40cR in a month. The third one looks like it’s working good and haven’t had any problems in the month since they sent it to me. I didn’t know if guitar center was going to end up sending me a new amp every two weeks for the rest of my life.

    • That's got to be frustrating. Your story reminds me of some testimonials I saw on You Tube a year or so ago. It reminds me of a macabre version of GC String Club. Hopefully the third time is the charm for you.

    • @@TheKevinNewsom The only reason a gave it three chances was because the tone is so good. We'll see what happens!

  • Hmmm ... I suppose that could be a lot of people's experiences. I watched a guy called Psiconic Audio recently and he has a video called Amps Under $1,000. He is an amp tech with over 30 years of experience repairing amps, and he lists the amps and their problems that he sees the most. One I recall he said was riddled with issues was a Mesa Boogie combo (for example). Also, Orange terror amps were problems. Just about all amps come in with some sort of failure over the years, but one he did have good things to say about was the Marshall DSL 40CR. I bought mine about 3 years ago I'd say. Never had an issue with it so far. I don't play it every day but often. The guy I mentioned said it has a fantastic FX loop and I have to agree. I was a bit worried about the Asian manufacturer, but I've had no issues. It has a larger speaker than my British made JCM800 combo and sounds way fuller than the JCM800 witch cost about $1,700 shipped. Both sound great for my type of music (80s Def Leppard, Skid Row, Faster Pussycat, Great White, etc.) and both take pedals nicely. The JCM800 (I really hate to say it) sounds a bit thinner due to its smaller speaker. The DSL40 CR can sound a tad bit fizzy if you don't find the right application of the GAIN, VOLUME and MASTER. The part about players having cut outs in sound: I have had similar with my JCM800 but not the DSL40. I am hoping that it was a cable on not a tube or something. The main thing the guitar tech talked about was having decent to high quality capacitors and equally important was just interior layout. It cost dollars per hour for a tech to dissemble everything just to get one component - some are laid out in a way that its very difficult to work on, prone to failure, etc. Others are made so that if it were to have an issue, there would be minimal labor spent to fix it. Hopefully most people do not have any issues with their DSL40 CR. I am happy with mine after 3 years so far. Thanks for your videos! \m/

    • It is. One of the cool features is the option to run at 20 or 40 watts. 20 watts is nice for bedroom levels.

    • Well, bedroom levels? Me too - I know what you mean:) That would be measured in decibels ... my ears have a slight ringing and really start hurting with volumes around 91db. I have a 1 watt Blackstar tube amp that can have crunchy gain at 90db. 1 watt and I'm about 4 feet away. 20 watts (if you have never tried it) on a tube amp is WAY more power than anyone will need :). It can get loud - the DSL40CR is a large amp with a large speaker ... you may need to get an attenuator just so it doesn't sound fizzy, if you run into that issue. I know what you mean - yeah, you can tame this one down but you might need to crank the channel and just use Master at 1. This is a pretty versatile amp but the addition of the Master can be confusing sometimes to dial everything in. I'm just rying to help: some people buy it and have the Gain way down, the Channel Volume way down, and the even the Master way down and say it sounds fizzy and just sounds like crap. It is a matter of setup I think.

  • I got a lemon..2nd one I got crapped out...then they sold my one reordered!!!! Finally on the 4th trip I got a good one that works. It is ok and sounds good...but it was a total pain making 4 trips to the music store to get a decent Marshall. I was appalled when I saw Vietnam on it! It sounds good now but damn them for fucking with us on a business venture. Carma gonna get them! You don't mess with guitars and amps...it's like being a horse thief! Bad vibes and funny stuff gonna happen to those suits!

  • I’ve had two of these and they sounded horrible. This was my first tube amp experience and this thing was unusable for me at bedroom levels on the red ultra gain channel. I had to turn eveything to like 2 or 3 to keep it from sounding super fuzzy and brittle. I even went and bought a power attenuator to crank the power tubes and that didn’t work either. It was awful.

    @chrisbenson2430@chrisbenson24306 ай бұрын
    • I know what you mean ... it is the combination of those however. I have an attenuator as well, but I am not totally convinced it does much more than the built in Master- I cannot hear it. My other non-master amps I can tell the difference. If the Gain is half, the Volume is low, and the Master is low (trying to get non ear-splitting levels) then it may sound fizzy. But crank the Gain - crank the Volume and just use Master for final output and it sounds great. Mine is set: Gain @ 10, Volume @ 9, Master @ 2. One kid emailed me about my JCM800 and he hated the one he tried out saying that it had no distortion - he just didn't set it up right.
