I'm glad the explanations are helpful! Thanks for watching.
For those asking: 1) Yes I’m aware gold is a soft metal, that’s why it’s never on the cutting edge and the entire core is high carbon steel. 2) No you can’t just put a thin strip of gold instead of a whole layer, steel won’t forge weld at those temps or you’d melt the gold. 3) The offcuts are being saved for a future project, probably a folder and some fittings. Thanks for watching.
Yo dude you should build a small foundry set up to recover materials by using melt point to get them to separate out. You could probably recover the 10k gold and purify it back down to 24k yourself. And even experiment with purity levels from a smaller sample of pure gold. 10k is also under 50 percent purity. I'd say try with 14k or 18k if you try in the future with less pure gold. 14k is like 58 percent. 18k is 75 percent.
@@bmxriderforlife1234 I've tried this before with lower purities of gold. The problem is as the purity goes down, so does the melting point. Thanks for watching.
@Tyrell Knifeworks yeah I've done a bit of jewelry work as well as working materials for sword fittings and such. Depends on exact alloy. Most people don't realize but there's alot of different gold alloys available for various purity ratings. I forget the name but an example is a specific nickle free white gold alloy that has high levels of platinum palladium and I think silver. Higher melting point then normal. A few work pretty similar to copper.
@@TyrellKnifeworks also no worries dude your work is good. The cumai katana was bad ass.
@@TyrellKnifeworks This is what I was waiting for. It’s cool that you used gold. Very good job! Maybe you should try silver next.
Tyrell! The level of your blade smithing is extra ordinary. I loved the Gold in the knife and the choice of 80Crv2 steel as bevel. RandomHands
Thanks for checking out this build! I appreciate you watching. 😉
its awsome to see positivity between creaters
I love people that compose their youtube comments as if they're writing a letter home during the Civil War
The diagrams in the corner are a brilliant touch, amazing work mate 👍
I’m glad the graphics are helpful. Thanks for watching!
Your patreon subscriber was smart to fund this. What an absolute masterpiece!
He’s a good patron! Thanks for watching!
I would like see how it looks after using it every day for a month.
@@BGRUBBIN well gold doesn’t corrode, so it will look as good as a Damascus carbon steel knife would. What’s your point?
@@jonathanlanglois2742 aren’t you Mr negative? The gold isn’t in the cutting edge so it’s not going to wear.
Exactly, the gold isn't in the cutting edge. Those guys really are looking for something negative to say! I love the fact that the owner of this knife will know his food has passed over a strip of gold! The alchemical properties of this knife are interesting, a beautiful knife! Very good work sir!
How do you like the final knife? I'm not sure I'll be doing this again, but it sure was a fun build!
FUkN sick!!!! Omg: and the final display case at the end with the vial of gooooooolllddd!!!!
AMAZING!!! That may have started off as really expensive materials and billet, but the final result says it all!
Superb! 15k knife?
@@Travis_Hackney Thank you!! I took me a while to find that case. It's actually a harry potter wand case. 🙄. Happy holidays!
@@GaisaSanktejo Thanks for watching! It was a stressful at times, but every new endeavor is, right?
This is definitely, without a doubt, the most beautiful knife I have ever seen. The attention to detail is superb, and I love how you talk us through everything you're doing. PS: I lost it at 22:26, that handle post buff- with the dammy screw contrast, just extra insane. You're a true Artisan of your craft sir.
Thanks so much, Bruno! I appreciate you checking it out!
Check out ABS Master Bladesmith Bruce Bump! Dude is a genius and incorporates blades and blk powder pistols together into one. He does a lot of Bowie blades and daggers but can do it all. His machinery skill’s is top tier. Thank me later!
The handle is just perfect for that blade. Beautiful work 👏 👌
Thanks for checking it out, Carl!
That handle is just unreal for this knife. Absolutely stunning
Thanks for watching, Michael! Happy holidays!
I would say the handle looks more gold than the blade
@@sdamer4609 what is it made of
@@jojooreo2761think he said it was an ash burl.
I cannot imagine how scary it must have been to put that gold in the forge for the first time
Pucker factor was at an 11. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
the gold would not be super hard to recover if he had messed it up
@@chrisharris1522 I’m not so sure about that. It’s not as simple as just melting it at high temps. Plus getting it back to sheets would be very hard.
@@chrisharris1522 as a gold/silver smith I can tell you it's definitely not easy to do what you are claiming.
@@truthandfreedom8145 I said it was fairly simple
The attention to detail on this knife is so amazing. I can see every thought process to make this knife as beautiful as it is
Thanks so much! This one definitely did require a lot of thought. Thanks for watching!
Stunning! Loved that you put the gold dust in with the knife. I bet it will be a joy for him to use!
Thanks for checking it out!
Wow, that blade looks awesome. Gave me some inspiration. Also I'd like to say how much I appreciate you actually showing what the layers look like after each step. There's lots of videos of people making pattern welded projects, but this was the first time I saw someone showing how the pattern actually evolves and how it comes together.
Thanks for checking out this build! Sorry, it’s not for sale.
@@TyrellKnifeworks where he ask to buy he was appreciating you for showing the layers
@@JayThaDon41632 I think my reply was meant for someone else. It may have been mistakenly responded to the wrong comment. Sorry about that.
That knife is beautiful and the case you made for it with the little jar of gold shaving is like the cherry on top!
Thanks so much, Jared! I appreciate you taking a look!
The final product is simply one of the nicest bits of forging I have ever seen. The video is also one of the best. Thank you and congrats to David for funding and receiving one of the nicest pieces on the web! Brilliant.
Thanks so much! I appreciate you checking out this build!
I love how this one turned out, the details are lovely. And wow, even the box at the end was amazing. I love that you included the gold shavings in a little vial, what a personal touch! I'm in awe of your work, thank you for the videos!
Thanks for checking out this build, Mike!
What a masterpiece, Denis!!! "If at first you don't succeed, .... KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK, THE SECOND TIME!!!" This is one that everyone will be talking about for a long time! Thanks for sharing, educating, and inspiring, my brother! 😎👍🏻🔨🔥🔪 #RESPECT
Thanks so much, Bob! I appreciate you watching, brother! Merry Christmas!
This is the best knife I have ever seen, period! It amazes me that pieces like this are even possible! I can't wait to see what other fantastic knives you make
Thanks so much! Lots of cool builds planned for next year. Happy holidays.
OH. MY. GOD! this is easily the prettiest knife I've ever seen! the pattern with the gold is stunning and that handle fits the look so perfectly. Well done man I have insane respect for you after this, you earned a sub!
Welcome to the channel! Thanks for checking out this build!
Beautiful in every way. Thanks for taking us along on the journey.
Thanks for checking it out!
is no one gonna talk about the absolute jump in his editing?? Everything about this video is a cut above his normally outstanding content. He sounds less like a guy in a garage doing things and more like a professional and expert like he really is! I’m so happy I got to watch his journey over time to this point, working with gold is an incredible milestone
Thanks so much, Seth! I spend a lot of time exiting and trying to improve the video quality. ❤️
What an absolute masterpiece, this is the kind of stuff you keep in your family for generations. I wonder if it's also possible with silver or brass?
It’s been done with silver and brass already. I’m sure David will keep this knife as a family heirloom. Thanks for watching.
@@TyrellKnifeworks good for him.
This is easily one of the most aesthetically pleasing knives I've ever witnessed. Clearly, by demonstration, it gets the job done!
Thanks for watching this build!
I love all blacksmith videos. But I think the idea of displaying the change in the pattern is brilliant. And here again a masterpiece!!
I'm glad the graphics are helpful! Thanks for watching. ❤️
Your Damascus blade video got me into this stuff. It’s so cool to see the work being done start to finish. Love it!
I'm thrilled to have inspired you! Thanks for watching and happy holidays!
I really appreciate your video editing style, I like your thorough description of the process and the visual diagrams. Definitely one of my new favorite forging channels!
Thanks so much! I appreciate you watching. ❤️
Wow! Beautiful! I can't believe you were able to forge gold to that knife. Love the graphics that show the pattern.
Thanks for watching this build, Bob!
Beautifully crafted by a true blade artist! Thank you David for picking up the gold for him to craft such a beautiful peace of art. I’m sure you will treasure this knife. And thank you #TyrellKnifeworks for sharing your magnificent craft with us all. Great job!
Thanks for checking it out!
That is truly so far beyond impressive that it goes right past astounding, and probably past phenomenal too. Absolutely gorgeous.
Thanks so much! I appreciate you checking it out!
Phenomenal work as always, and you chose the perfect handle for it. It really makes the gold in the blade pop.
I've been staring at that block for almost a year waiting to do this build! Thanks for watching and happy holidays!
This man is always expanding the boundaries of my understanding of craftsmanship; I’m never not amazed by his work.
Thanks so much! I appreciate you following g the channel
The little graphic in the corner that shows how the layers are being pressed is awesome! I’ve watched a couple other smiths, but hadn’t figured out how the patterns were made.
I'm glad the graphics are helpful. My next build video will be another very complex damascus pattern so the graphics will be essential. Thanks for watching!
You have done what no one else before you could do. This is absolutely amazing!
Thanks for checking it out!
Gorgeous knife! You just keep raising the bar. The inlay was a nice touch, and Oleg definitely came through with the perfect wood for this build too. Fantastic work as always. Happy holidays to you and yours!

Hi! It's me adain! I can't stop watching your videos ❤
Thanks for tuning in!
Wow ...your workmanship is on another level. Love the little bits of detail on the blade, handle and gold flake in the capsule. Never seen anything like it.
Thanks for checking it out, George!
That's a hell of a piece, Duder. That burl you used for the handle was dead on, exactly right. Killer blade shape, beautiful steel pattern. Great work!
I hand selected that piece for this build a year ago! 😉. Thanks for watching
Amazing work! It's a knife worthy of the gold that will be enjoyed and admired.
Thanks so much! It was a stressful but very enjoyable build to do! Happy holidays!
Dear, sweet Lord! I love knives. This forged gold to Damascus chef knife is the most beautiful knife I’ve ever seen in my life! I’ve never even conceived of something like this? I am in awe! Just an absolute beautiful work of art, to say the least. Definitely worth the extra expense for the size of the gold, so you could get that pinstripe in the false edge, which just makes the knife, coupled with the accent on the pommel. Can you believe the pairing of the wood? The yellow to gold ratio is perfect. I literally have found myself staring at it for more than five minutes, admiring all the swirls of the Damascus against the gold and jet black edge is the absolute best look ever.
Thanks so much for checking out this build! It certainly was a nail biter during the forging. 😜
That's probably the coolest & most stunning blade I've seen anyone produce for sure! Well done, super cool blade whoever ends up with that in their kitchen is super lucky
David who supplied the gold got this knife, that was the deal. 👍. Thanks for watching.
This is just piece of art! I can't describe how I feel about it! Stunning!
Thanks so much! I appreciate you checking it out.
It looks soooooo unique! Amazing work sir!!!!!
Thank you so much 😀
Just wow! That is an amazing opportunity for you to stamp your creativity onto some very precious materials... and you NAILED IT! It's gorgeous. You should be very proud of this masterpiece. And not just the knife. The final presentation in its case was 100% and the effort of panning for the gold and including it almost as a charm to go with the blade just... Perfection. Keep doing what you're doing.
Thanks so much! I appreciate you tuning in!
WOW! I appreciate knives; I appreciate craftsmanship; woodworking and knife care were a few of my hobbies, but this is the best of each I have watched. Thank you.
Thanks for checking out this build!
A absolute work of art 🙏 I’m so jealous of that knife or should I say the owner 😂 just beautiful.
thanks for checking it out!
Simply amazing. Now that’s a chefs knife I’d love to own but hell I couldn’t afford the gold much less paying you for your work. You do excellent work by the way
Thanks so much for watching, Gino!
It can never be used, it's structurally unsound. It's a decoration.
Putting the vial of gold dust in the presentation case is such a genius touch. Just another lovely detail for the eye to get drawn to.
I thought it was a cool finishing touch. Thanks for watching, Mike.
Now that's what you call a true one-of-a-kind masterpiece
Thanks for checking it out!
$5500 in gold, but you see $400 worth
Yes, but that's the cost of the process. Thanks for watching.
Awesome build! Shame on you for making us wait so long for the video though. I hope this gets you over the 250K mark, because you definitely deserve it. SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE CONTENT PEOPLE!!!
Thanks so much! I do hope it does well since the knife was basically a pro-bono piece for the price of the gold. 😉
